We have to be at the end or nearing the last generation of consoles right? The only company I thought would still be able to pull off the console shit was Nintendo but I'm having doubts about that too. It just seems like they've completely lost steam as far as being the powerhouse they used to be. I don't understand why Nintendo and the Japs in general have gotten so bad at making games/gaming now what the hell happened.

"Next gen is the last gen" has been a thing since the days of the PS2 to 360 transition. I'll believe it when I see it.

Consoles no longer have the exclusive lineups they once had, but are still alright in being gaming oriented PCs for people who don't want or aren't willing to invest in a gaming PC. The console war is dead though and one of the frustration from the fanbase is them trying to one up Sony as if they got so fucked by it that they will never recover.

I admit, I too used to be one of those insane Nintendo fanboys who wouldn’t play anything else and said they could do no wrong.

Man, I’m glad I grew up from that phase, and am more of a casual fan of them now, given everything you guys have brought up.
I've always been Nintendo + PC going way back to the late 90s. I really can't see myself plunking down that amount for a Switch 2, though. Like, I usually do budget gaming PC setups, think along the lines of those Ryzen mini-PCs ETA Prime is always fooling around with, and play games on lower settings or games a couple years old and my newest setup was like half the cost of a Switch 2.

Maybe you have changed.

Maybe you have changed.
Japan is really big on intellectual property, even more so than the US. Nintendo's last five systems, Switch, 3DS, Wii U, Wii and DS have all had work arounds to jailbreak them and play games for free while they were still in production. I think that's caused them to be more litigious. At the same time, Iwata died and any time a company has a new CEO, it's going to naturally change direction to some degree. I think the combination of the two is what people have been seeing.

Nope.

Look back in to the history of Nintendo.

Hiroshi Yamauchi was one of the slimiest, most despicable businessmen in Japanese history. He believed in monopolism, lawfare, price-gouging and manufacturing hype through deliberate shortages to push sales of mediocre products, and that is the DNA of Nintendo.

Nintendo did things Bill Gates wouldn't even have dared to. They were the Microsoft of video games long before MS made a console.

Everything we are seeing is just Nintendo in its natural state, without a warm and fuzzy figurehead to distract you by jingling his car keys.

Nintendo did not go absolutely apeshit in going after emulators, flashcart manufacturers and roms sites until the Switch was hacked. There are sites that have had been openly sharing roms for over 20 years, that did not get DMCA'd until recently. Saying they really went all in on cracking down on those things relatively recently =/= saying they were a moral upstanding company in the 80s. I don't know what to tell you.

Regardless, the point is they have been in the news more recently for that sort of thing than they ever have been, hence the changing fan perception.

That wasn't the first time they went after ROM sites, they just hadn't done so in a couple of decades now.

Nintendo had a hand in going after used game sales in Japan. They tried to do it here in the US but failed. They even wanted to end game rentals. They treated stores like Block Buster like shit. They went after them even for making copies of game manuals.

Holy shit, I made a post about fan perception changing because they very publicly and successfully went after shit like Yuzu and Gary Bowser and you guys are bringing up failed lawsuits from 20-30 years as a counterpoint. You cannot possibly be this retarded.

No, it was brought up because you seem to think Nintendo just became this way.

Someone in this thread is definitely acting retarded, and I think we all know who.

I do see Nintendo is on a bit of a ticking clock. The hardcore fans are skewing older and older and kids are more attracted to PC gaming based on watching streamers. Their characters and IP are still iconic and recognizable though and I see them trying to leverage that with the mario and zelda movies but all the nintendo fanboys are chasing a dragon from when they were ten year olds. If the next crop of kids arent getting hooked on mario and zelda early then they will probably move on to other stuff.

TBF, Bioware didn't release Mass Effect 1 on PS3.

They did later.
