What I find odd is that they didn't take down the hundreds of Nintendo romsets that the Internet Archive has, then there'd be an actual case for the spergout the fans are having now.

I think it's just an attention grab because Nintendo didn't let them do something they wanted that'd go against their plans, not surprising nobody is talking about this because once again, as Nintendo pulled the shiny keys with the Splatoon 3 date reveal and now people are talking about that as usual when Nintendo does something despite controversy.

I pre-ordered my copy before COVID hit because I actually like the series. Then the cottagecore, Ghibli fans, aesthetic personalities and queers came in and sullied the game's image.
 
I'm going to venture regular people (your casual gamer as 4chan calls them) also enjoys animal crossing. Having the trannies and homestuck rotbrains liking the game is just inevitable for something as popularly marketed.

I am pretty sure that stuff like NSO (or even just stuff like Virtual console, rereleases, old Virtual Console releases, etc.) means that for a lot of Nintendo's first party games they are no longer covered under those exceptions (and also wouldn't be if Nintendo's internal archive processes, which are very, very good preserve games in formats more durable than carts with watch batteries, which they do.) IA is probably actually just hiding out under the fact that few people use it as a ROM site or bother to check whether those permissions are still valid.

If it's the latter, then it's pretty understandable since they have to check several thousand website archives, books, and other forms of non-ROM media like Videos and Books makes it easy to make things like that slip under the radar.
