I'm not talking about the difference between digital and physical media. I'm asking why their focus is own ownership of the product rather than their experience of the game. The urge to collect things just to collect them is completely foreign to me.
The whole point of physical media is that you own the product and that it's yours. It's not reliant on some company server or something outside of your control to have it work.

Besides digital products still wind up causing backlogs.

I don't give a shit because that's not what I'm talking about and I'm not going to explain my point a second time.
People buy digital games and then never play them. Something being physical has no bearing on that phenomenon.

Sometimes people buy shit thinking they'll want to play it later and then never do.

That's bullshit. What you said also applies to physical game copies. Some of my siblings own PS4 games that they haven't touch since they bought it.

It's more a matter of people buying games that caught their interest and leaving it to collect dust (literally or figuratively) after the game failed to keep them hooked.

Why are you saying "own" instead of "have played"? What is it with you people and coveting plastic?

As an old Vitafag, I've been fully aware of some people who autistically bought a shit-ton of physicals, probably just to counter the accusations of "Vita had no games"

You're also a primary example of someone who often boast to buy physicals on both Playstation and Nintendo just for the sake of collection autism but somehow never play them either (hence your recurrent shitposting in vidya threads).

I got the sense they assumed their game collection's gonna be worth a fortune, because Vita's in that little niche between consoles nobody cares about (Intellivision; Jaguar; Ouya) and the big boys. Dreamcast and Wii U had similar collectors.

Only the particularly collectable games will be worth much. Undertale will for obvious reasons. Breach & Clear is trash, but it was the first Limited Run release. Persona 4 Golden is widely loved, and is the only way to have a physical copy of the definitive version of that game. Those are the ones that'll be sought after. That's how these things always go. The Vita does have an interesting caveat with how it's an overall better experience to just hack yours, buy an SD2Vita and a big MicroSD card, and install everything you could ever want, though as we've seen with the DS, that didn't seem to damage values too much.

and while I'm on the subject, my favorite example of a game being genuinely rare and valuable is how Poop Slinger on PS4 is easily the most sought-after game on the console, due to the publisher selling it in what looked to be an April Fool's joke, but it was real. https://www.vg247.com/rarest-ps4-game-poop-slinger

I had several physicals (most of them were imports) and sold them all once the hack exploit was finally available for firmware 3.68, since the main reason I had game cartridges was to save space on the proprietary memory card. There were past exploits beforehand but the first format of pirated games couldn't handle the sleep feature of the portable console (which led to game save error prompts) and the game key plugin (that allow any game regardless of the pre-existing firmware) didn't exist yet until the Catherine Fullbody port.

Also for info, Sony is fully aware when you play pirated games with the wifi on, they don't exactly give a shit enough to have your console/account banned unlike Nintendo.

Anyway, I think the obsession for physicals in video games to be completely ridiculous. Especially when it gets into mere boasting of owning x amount of plastic.

Absolutely not true, I play and finish all games I start.

The human heart has enough love for both.

This is more likely to happen if you buy games in batches. Back when used game prices weren't insane across the board, it was easy to get a decent sized stack of games for the price of a brand new AAA game. If your favorite genres are known for long games, this can be a problem.

I still have the instruction booklet for this game almost decades later, and I’m proud to say that this month I’ll be buying this game on eBay to relive childhood memories that I may or may not be exaggerating over.

It should be fun. :)

The fact that they did not give a proper Wario World or Wario Land remake to the Nintendo Switch is proof that I could never have nice things.

You give one to Yoshi and Luigi, but not Wario?

Not even the planned Wario Ware mini games can make a difference. Plus, I remember when they were on the GameCube before all of this happened. All I’m saying is that Wario needs another more established game under his belt.

Today's news: people once again sperging about the fact Nintendo won't let them listen to their music glorified MP3 files they could get anywhere else on YouTube and treating Square Enix like god because they uploaded music on their channel

I had Wario World at one point, but I don’t recall it being anything more than mediocre. I remember it being linear and more beat-em-up oriented. I guess I just didn’t get into it even though 3D Platformers are my favorite genre.

Given the time period the game came out in, it was no wonder why Wario didn’t get a sequel. The game was alright, but it easily got dominated by 3rd party platformers or the king at the time, PlayStation. The market was too full and had way better options.

Now thinking about it. I remember as a kid loving Nintendo for their 3D platformers, but now looking back, they had relatively few of those. Like really, outside of Mario, Nintendo very rarely dabbled in the genre. I think I am now at the realization that PlayStation of all companies was the one who really pushed that genre, even today.

theirs this nintendo fanboy on youtube called arlo who records all his videos with a muppet. He hasn't done anything really lolcow worthy he just seems like a weirdo to me.

The faggot bought out a stores entire inventory of Starlink: Battle for Atlas just because it came with Star Fox toys.

I'm pretty sure he's also like a 40 year old man that still lives with his mother, but I could just be remembering what someone else said incorrectly.

Either way, the first thing seems kind of lolcow to me.
