For me, I’d get Bravely Default
Why would you do this?? :stress:

Here is a brief smattering of the better games I have. They are mostly download-only but some are not.

Pay attention I will only do this once: HarmoKnight, Pushmo, Crashmo, Stretchmo, Inazuma Eleven, Rusty's Real Deal Baseball, Dragon Ball Fusions, Shovel Knight (plays best on DS!), Cave Story, Box Boy, Box Box Boy, Bye Bye Box Boy, Ever Oasis, 3D Mahjongg, Gunman Clive 1 and 2, Dillon's Rolling Western 1, 2 and 3, Rhythm Heaven Megamix, Color Zen, WarioWare Gold, Steel Empire, Toy Stunt Bike, Aeterno Blade, Cube Tactics, Gardenscapes, Zen Pinball, Fire Emblem Fates complete set, IronFall Invasion, Kersploosh, Sky Peace, Kirby Fighters Deluxe, Shantae, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Steel Diver Sub Wars, Weapon Shop de Omasse, Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, AiRace series, The Keep, Crimson Shroud, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Party Top 100, Liberation Maiden, Proun, Runbow Pocket, Aeroporter, VVVVVV, virtual console games of your choice may I suggest GameGear, the "3D Classics" series of NES remasters are excellent (Kirby, Kid Icarus, etc), Pokemon TCG, Sushi Striker, Stella Glow, SEGA's 3D remasters are excellent (Fantasy Zone, Galaxy Force, Space Harrier, Sonic, etc) and ALL of the Japanese Rail Sim 3D games.

I've also got some great DSi games on here from the last time this happened. But you haven't been able to get them for a long long time. Looksley's Line Up was genius, that's all I'm saying.

Oh and grab Nintendo Badge Arcade and play it while you can. You'll unlock themes and customization for your 3DS. Also check Nintendo's theme shop in your main menu in case that is shutting down.

OH! And I guess grab the Street Pass Mii Plaza games. Those are fucking awesome and entirely unique. Those are: FindMii 1 and 2, Slot Car Rivals, Market Crashers, Feed Mii, Ninja Launcher, Mii Trek, Monster Manor, Warrior's Way, Battleground Z, Ultimate Angler, Flower Town (yo best game) and Mii Force.

The Plaza games were played by using Miis from Steet Pass. You would walk past someone else with a DS and your Mii would go to the other system along with the last few people they passed. Then you use those Miis in the games to play and progress. The games vary from being alright to being incredible. Flower Town (best), Monster Manor, Mii Force and Find Mii are the standouts. This shit was way ahead of its time and is going to be difficult to emulate. I spent years working on these games. Very rewarding. My plaza has over a thousand Miis and that's still pretty modest compared to some people.

Let's see... anything else? Yes! I am learning to play a very autistic city simulator on my Switch. In my research I saw that there is a 3DS version called A-Train 3D City Simulator. It is supposed to be good but very challenging and dense. That's all I have. Ask me any questions, I've played all of the games listed and have beaten most.

Remember, you want a 2DS XL and you want to do this fix I described. It must be PSP-1000 thumb pads. They are the only ones that work. Enjoy the best video game device.

This post got bigger than I expected. Gonna paste it in the eShop thread for the smart people that avoid this topic.

/r/Tomorrow is quickly becoming my favourite subreddit.

Nintendo and their fans have such a weird toxic parasocial relationship.

Nintendo is shutting down the wii U and 3DS eshops. Also by August they'll make prepaid eshop cards for those services irredeemable.
I guess I should be asking what games should I be getting on 3DS before it's too late.
Wow, a company shutting down service for a product nobody bought and a products that's heavily outdated compared to what they are tying to sell right now in where it matters most?, color me supprised.

I wonder how bad the spergout will be compared to Sony's attempt to kill off a platform that's heavily outdated.

but considering how dumb and clickbaity the thumbnails are, I know it's going to be golden.

Can you explain the Celeste meme from that subreddit to an old fart like myself?
Basically there was a period of time where all you'd see on the main Switch subreddit was posts about Celeste, review of Celeste, etc. Ironically calling it a "hidden gem" despite being talked about by every reviewer, content creator, and the whole sub.

So it kinda just became a meme that the sub is obsessed with Celeste to parody the "typical Nintendo Switch fan" when that's all they could talk about for a while.

Ahhh I see. I read the summary of the game when it came out and it had some shit about a young girl dealing with negative emotions and anxiety or something. There's nothing I find more annoying than listening to other people's retarded problems related to their own neurosis, so I didn't look into it any deeper than that.

On-topic, I actually do think copyright should last for 20 years and be done similar to US patent law. Current copyright law is just creating artificial scarcity and I believe it is actually harmful to society. Even though The Legend of Zelda would fall into public domain, doesn't mean Breath of the Wild does until 2037.

It goes well beyond just being able to play old vidya, because copyright law also covers books, TV shows, movies, articles and news footage. I just think it'd be better for society if that stuff were freely available after a reasonable period of time. There would be no onus on the company who made it to actively distribute the material, but you couldn't ruin someone's life for pirating a 40 year old TV series. The system we have now just results in a situation where corporate globo-homo entities like Disney hoover up IP and you end up paying Disney to watch movies or TV shows where all the original people involved have been dead for 20 years and the US government enforces Disney's right to sue you if you try to access or distribute the material in any other way. So you have this system where people get rich distributing the work of dead people and if you try to circumvent that system you can get sued. It's a totally asinine waste of resources and is nothing more than a government enforced monopoly in an effort keep people from doing what is essentially the modern equivalent of photocopying an old magazine.

Exactly. I don't know why they're acting surprised when the 3/2DS hasn't received a major game for so long.

The biggest plus from this is the fact that I can just hack my 3DS and get as much out of it as I want now.

HarmoKnight
FANTASTIC rhythm game by GameFreak, also has Pokemon song cameos as secret levels. GF should make a sequel to this
Gunman Clive 1 and 2
Neat little MegaMan-esque platformer where you play as a cowboy, his girlfriend, or a duck (unlockable) in which you shoot shit to rescue your girlfriend/cowboy from capture (except the duck, duck can't shoot). 2nd game adds an indian (kimosabe, not street shitter) and you go into SPAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!
Rhythm Heaven Megamix
This one is a MUST! Another Rhythm game and my personal favorite aside from the original GBA version. Almost all the songs are fucking amazing, especially the remixes.

P.S. Enjoy pulling your hair-out on the pachinko part, and you HAVE to do it if you're going to 100% this game
WarioWare Gold
Great little package containing games from the GBA games (1st one and twisted) and the DS game (Touched). Has a fuck-ton of unlockables and modes.
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse
I also recommend Risky's Revenge which was a DSi title before it made a PC release. Both are fun "Metroidvania" titles with great music and you play as a sexy genie... what's not to like?
Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe
Yet another Rhythm game, but it's fun as fuck. Unfortunately it's one of the shorter rhythm games out there (not counting the original DDD Drum Dash on Kirby Triple Deluxe, which is another great game), but this one REALLY tests your concentration since you have to pay attention to a lot of things on the screen
AiRace series
I personally like the 1st one on the DSi. That one is an actual racer where you pick different planes and race them all over the place (Jungle, City, Sewers, Mountains, etc...). All the other ones are reflex testers where you're going a bajillion miles through tunnels trying not to crash.
Fun (but hard as balls) game where you flip all over the place to run on the floor and ceiling to get to other places to rescue your team that disappeared. Also has custom levels made by other people.

Here's my recommendations to add onto this...

Art Of Balance Touch! - You stack shit ontop of each other and make sure they don't topple over, you win. Has nice visuals and soothing music. LOTS of levels. ALSO ON SWITCH

Bike Rider DX 1 and 2 - BALL BUSTING game in which you're a stick figure riding a bike and need to clear obstacles while getting the 3 gold coins. One hit deaths. Fucking amazing soundtrack, especially the 2nd game. 1st game is a "world tour" of sorts and the 2nd game you go through different planets based on the zodiac sign. ALSO ON SWITCH renamed to "Crazy BMX World", which includes the 3rd game that was never released in the USA. (yes this series is a japanese one)

Chibi-Robo! Photo Finder - You're a robot that takes pictures of random IRL shit with the 3DS camera to help your master with his art gallery. Can easily abuse this shit to get the highest score by going to Google images and finding the item in question.

Cubit The Hardcore Platforming Robot - It's most certainly hardcore. Like Bike Rider DX, you need to be absolutely precise with your jumps or else you're dead. Short though, but has achievements to unlock if you're psychotic enough to do them.

Dead Or Alive Dimensions - Titty fighters now on handheld. Has the cast from the first 3 games on it. Cutscenes are lulzy since they are still models that don't even move their mouths.

Donkey Kong Country Returns - This one wins just by not having motion control bullshit like the Wii has.

EDGE - You're a cube in space. Get to the goal. Isometric view, so the controls are a little wonky unless you use the map as a guide.

Fossil Fighters Frontier - It's Pokemon, except DINOSAURS!!! You dig up fossils to build up your dino. Better fossils you have, the more powerful they become. Looses it's replay value once you beat the game though since they have an online mode where you can battle other people but NOBODY IS EVER ON IT!!! ☹️

Lego City Undercover The Chase Begins - Open world lego game in which you're a cop beating people up and arresting criminals. Prequel to the WiiU game.

Mario Kart 7 - It's similar to 8, only with different tracks. Kart customization with different karts, and cast of characters are similar except no baby forms, Waluigi or koopalings. Has the bee from Mario Galaxy and Wiggler.

Mighty Switch Force 1 & 2 - From the makers of shantae, you're a sexy cop catching criminals and shooting things all within a VERY STRICT time limit (at least if you're going for a completion run). Gimmic is switching box platforms from different perspectives to get to places.

Mutant Mudds 1 & Super Challenge - Platform gunner, shooting mud enemies, collecting power-ups, coins, and going into secret rooms. 2nd game has different character skins from different indie game series.

NightSky - You're a black marble in a shadow world, reach the end, win. More of a physics platformer since you have to control the marble in different ways to beat the levels.

Ace Attorney Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice - If you like the other AA games, you'll like these. Stories do drag on for a long fucking time though, and Apollo gets retconned like fucking crazy.

Project X Zone 1 & 2 - RPG with popular vidya characters from series as street fighter, mega man, streets of rage, virtua fighter, Space Channel 5, etc...

Sakura Samurai Art of The Sword - Nintendo's new IP specifically for the 3DS. You're a samurai in a 3d environment going to different places and slashing enemies with your sword.

Senran Kagura 1 and 2 - titty ninja beat-em-up. Gets kinda repetitive after a while though.

Sonic Generations - the 3DS version is actually just as fun, if not more than, the PC/Console version. Different stages and bosses for the most part. Online mode to face people but just like Fossil Fighters, ITS DEAD.

Polara - Not well known, so it's a hidden gem. A platform runner in which you're a chick in some cyber-punk world in a suit that can change the colors of obsticles to go through them so she doesn't die. ALSO ON The PS VITA

Pix3D - Spin a bunch of pixels around to match the shape it's supposed to be. A decent time-killer "puzzler"

SpeedX 3D - You're in a tube in space that keeps shapeshifting and you have to avoid obsticles. Trippy as fuck! first person view.

Super Mario 3D Land - Definitely a lot more fun than the "NEW" series. It's World minus the 4 player and cat suits.

Super Street Fighter 4 3D Edition - Surprisingly a solid port minus a few graphical downgrades. Doesn't have the Arcade Version or Ultra characters in it.

Vector Racing - WipeOut only it's colored wireframes on a black background with one track that plays on every track.

Can you explain the Celeste meme from that subreddit to an old fart like myself?
Celeste fans were obnoxiously omnipresent on the regular Nintendo subreddit and saying dumb stuff about "supporting indie creators" and buying multiple copies of it. They've transfered the meme over to Hades too, for the same reasons.

@SSF2T Old User

Can the DSi games still be gotten on the 3DS? I didn't think they were which is why I didn't include games like Risky's Revenge or the older AiRace.

Also, I passed on including Chibi Robo Photo Finder because the official contests and prize chances are no longer happening.

I don't have a 3DS anymore (it broke a few years ago), but I do remeber being able to download and play DSi games from the eShop. According to what I looked up online...

-The DSi shop closed down in 2017, so eShop was the only other way to get the DSiWare titles (makes sense since that's when Pokemon UltraSun came out and it was the last time I was able to play on my 3DS)
-Jan 2021, Nintendo did a massive purge of the DSi titles, but then brought only some of them back? A couple articles reported on this, and from what I can gather, if you try to re-download a game you deleted that was one of the purged victims, it'll spit out a "Software Currently Unavailable" error.

There was a window during which you could download them but I think that was only if you had already owned them. For a while I thought I had lost my Zelda Four Swords Anniversary edition. But thankfully I did not.

Reposting this from Random thread. Honestly, the 3DS hacking just brings so much cool stuff outside of pirating that makes it worth while.

It's Game Freak, what do you expect?
Drill Dozer and Tembo the Badass Elephant, at least

lol, blaming those darn dirty pirates on Nintendo's steep prices, as if they haven't always been like that. Hacks for Nintendo platforms always happen during its mid-late life, when the majority of big games have already sold well. And even then, the hacks always start out really user unfriendly, sometimes asking you to do crazy shit like short a wire while installing something (Switch jigs, also iirc early DS flashcards needed this), and only when the console is all but dead do they get user friendly enough that anyone can do it. Early 3DS hacks took ages to install and were a freaking nightmare.

Also, like, one of the more contemptible things about Reddit is how often they whine about capitalism and shit, but then in these kinds of situations, they always blame the pirates, not the actual company for selling games at a premium. As if Nintendo is some hapless little local business just barely scraping by. While the Redditors also cheer for actual small businesses getting destroyed by BLM or the Canadian government or whatever.
