Cult mentality, I guess. Why develop the entirety of something like AM2R, only to have Nintendo DMCA it out of existence and then release their own remake for 3DS, when they could have just pulled a Freedom Planet?To play devil's advocate, that's the fanbase's fault at this point.
We all known how draconian Nintendo is when it comes to copyright, so why are the fans subjecting themselves to that old song and dance when they could be putting their talents into making spiritual successors with their own original assets?
Freedom Planet was developed as a Sonic the Hedgehog fan game, but the Sonic assets were replaced with original ones before release, therefore making it an original game all to itself. It was sold on every platform and faced no copyright issues, afaik.
