It is even more frustrating when characters like SpongeBob have plenty of video game material to work off of and make a cohesive play style.
I remember those two GBA games & the movie one where Spongebob could blow bubbles with different effects, Patrick's underwear glider and the red karate gloves.

I get why they include so many references but it makes the moveset inconsistent.

Something I really hate about the movesets, and this was something pointed out by Delzethin, is the over reliance on props for attacks. After hearing it in that video, I cannot unsee it in regards to characters. I hate how so many moves are characters pulling props out of thin air, it looks really bad a majority of the time. The Gerald trailer has a segment where he pulled out a whole basketball backboard out of thin air to hit a turtle with. Why/how would Gerald fight like this?

Other characters have this too. Garfield has an attack that would look good if they didn’t force him to hold up a donut for it. Patrick has tons of random moves like him shaking the coat hanger and even his downward where he pulls out the cone. It makes these characters really terrible to look at and takes me out of the feel. For example, Patrick has been in games before, he has a downward slam in BFBB that would look so much better, especially if they animated him grabbing his head to get up.

The moves in this game are a hodgepodge of moves stolen from other fighters and props. It doesn’t feel like the devs understand the characters or create archetypes suited to them. It is even more frustrating when characters like SpongeBob have plenty of video game material to work off of and make a cohesive play style.
Coming from the same dev team that brought us other cheap shovelware, as well as the likes of Big Rigs, this is not a surprise that they recycle these movesets from other fighting games (especially with better presentation).

Ludosity only made the All Star Brawl games, their not responsible for the other games that GameMill published. Big Rigs was "developed" by some random Ukraine people. The main problem is similar to what happen during the 90s where you have a bunch of games trying to be the next mortal kombat without understanding why people like mortal kombat in the first place.

That's what I was trying to imply here. Gamemill being a shovelware publishing company do not care about quality, but more like quantity

The main issue I see with Smash is just the competitive scene. Every clone wants to take in this scene that Nintendo betrayed because Sakurai is an outdated Boomer, then proceeds to build a terrible experience that not even the Melee fans latch too.

Competitive Smash is a niche that only seems to lose support as time goes on and a few pedo allegations draw near. The fun of Smash was the crossover aspect and large sums of content. Melee (outside of glitches) and Brawl are what I feel best represent Smash. Both had these big adventure modes, these sections filled with Nintendo history and just so much to do. It is sad that every clone boils Smash down to wave dashing when the real heart of the series came from everything outside the main content. Not even Smash seems to hold the same heart anymore.

Smash was designed to be a fighter for people who didn’t or couldn’t play things like Street Fighter. A game that was a half-way point between the super accessible Mario and fighters, yet somehow got pushed to be the very thing it was against. You gotta really feel for Sakurai at times.

So they cut 11 fighter only to replace one of them with a character that more known for a mass shooting then the series that they appeared in. Im kind of surprised that nickoldeon even allowed them to uses the character in the first place.
I gets even worse when you realize that Vlad, the main villain of said franchise, got shafted for her and is relegated to generic boss status.

If GameMill and the separate dev teams actually knew how to provide a decent presentation

A whole bunch of spotlight trailers have been dropped. Lucy Loud's narrator might possibly be the worst the one they've gotten. I can't tell if they're a vtuber or a tranny. Probably both.
