A bunch of retards are sperging about the culture war on the video games forum. I hate how OP can say retard in his post and it gets to stay up, but when I said it I got a temporary ban.

It's not just that objective and precise rules like "x word is banned" are applied unequally. If you've ever held a mod or one of their simps to account for allowing a word in some cases and not others, they'll immediately (and incorrectly) throw out "whataboutism" like they're some early 2000's neo-liberal reactionary and you're defending the Soviets. I've personally received or seen screenshots of that exact deflection from two separate mods and one wannabe mod about three different supposedly banned words that are--effectively--only banned for "the chuds". I doubt everyone on the mod team is either 1) of the geriatric age to have heard the term in the wild or 2) from the educational background of someone trying to get a patronage local government job. I've definitely seen the word used by mods who don't fit either background. It shows just how dense a clique the mod culture is and how a couple of off the rails biases from nutjobs just become the thing to defend due to groupthink. God how I loath all of them continuing to draw breath.

Now, he could be working on an anti-chud beat 'em up specifically, but it strikes me that the whole "Why can't I find someone smarter and more logically minded than me who shares my political beliefs?" lament is indicative of a bunch of trends that have slowly but noticeably pushed coders (and as a result games) off the site, leaving it almost exclusively as a poor man's Youtube with the exception of events that aren't doing so great (Low Poly Day was a total joke this year).

All other demographics held equal, non-FANG coders (ie those not living in San Francisco) often skew just a bit right. The site (and obviously MindChamber) hate that and them.

If you're a pro-AI coder, the site is a cauldron of anti-AI insanity. If you're an anti-AI coder, the site disrespects you by having your contributions being the one category that the rules specifically have a carve out for there being substantial AI use. It's like the rules were designed to piss of the broadest range of coders possible.

What's up? Is it a kind of organizational guilt and unhappiness from Tom deep down knowing he owes his entire life to Wade?

If someone hasn't created a communitywatch thread of the Madness community, then I might. Some pretty cuckoo stuff happening on their forums.
From my recollection it's just a bunch of Russians (Or slavs in general) and groomcord/telegrams shit flinging at each other for stolen assets while gooning to their madcom oc with eyes o algo. If I remember one madcom animator was an egomaniac and the other was a pedophile(?) named sean c glover and a bunch of who's I forgotten their antics like kelzad, zapchon, kryy, or cethic including (Insert color here) Hank like Wank
I did like the Jail Break thing Jsoull hosted like almost a decade ago

From looking in on its current collaborations, the site fights for its soul and is trying to align itself closer to the finer arts and institutions in the wake of the age of AI. You are correct in your assertion they are trying to fend off the AI wave as the game mods are "overwhelmed" with submissions that are almost all generative AI. I can't imagine the art side of the site is fareing better but then again the scouting system makes that a bit harder for the AI submitter to gain any traction.

MindChamber... from what I limitedly understand piecing together history is that this man has been hurt many times, and I respect him enough not to go into details (since people can't read anyway). I find it weird that he is seeking outside help. He isn't peerless, and the programmers on that website would gladly lay down their lives in front of a tank to help him, but I fear something particularly bad has happened for him that he has resorted to this. Regardless of politics I enjoy his artstyle, I hope he finds the right person he is looking for.

René Auberjonois... S3, E16.

If the moderators are overwhelmed it is by their own selfish choice. The answer to almost all moderation workload problems is and has always been a more distributed and democratic moderation process that relies on the users themselves. In the case of NG, simply raise the bar for what score it takes to be "saved" from blamming. Up the number of votes needed to leave jugdement. If bandwidth and storage are a problem, simply reinstitute something like the old system where more portal appearances (or whatever it was) got you more storage. If you're worried about bots: NG is requiring more and more of its users to provide government ID or a face scan, simply weight those verified users more heavily. Easy as. Now only good stuff reaches the top of the portal AI or not: done.

The only reason not to do the above is that your moderators are a bunch of fart-sniffing narcissistic assholes who consider themselves above the people who actually use and contribute to the site. Oh wait... that's the NG moderators in a nutshell. The mods are afraid that if they leave things purely up to "is this good?" there will be some AI content at the top, and they are right. By last count Tom himself has "accidentally" front-paged 40 odd AI songs. He obviously thought they were good and got enjoyment out of them. The mods have to hand mod everything because the real users of the site have a less strict view of AI and other issues (eg sexiness) than they do. Dictatorship is a lot of work. Boo hoo.

Aligning themselves with the "finer arts". Jesus Christ. This is Newgrounds we're talking about! Do you really think there's a timeline where people hear "Newgrounds" and think "the finer arts?" What schizo insanity. I've said this before but if Tom really wanted to align "with the finer arts" or whatever gay mid life crisis has seized him, he should have founded a new site. Such anti-populist faggotry isn't "fighting for the soul of Newgrounds" it's fighting against it. Newgrounds is punk rock, Newgrounds is populist, Newgrounds was founded on a tool (Flash) that let a wider group of people make the things they wanted to see despite the complaints of those whose skills had up to that point been part of the barriers to entry. Newgrounds is... dare I say it? Everything by Everyone.

And of course MindChamber has to go outside the site for coding talent. As I laid out, the site has lead a successful war against coders for years now. Look at the latest site "update" Tom has ballyhooed like the second coming of Christ: a comics sub-tab. The site is so bereft of coding talent that adding what is basically a new category to an existing database schema is a years long struggle as hard as winning a war in Afghanistan. Why do you think Nightmare Cops is so slow to develop? The site has yet to drive off *all* the talented artist with its censorious libtard madness but it's basically done so for coders. Wade, the brother who actual coded the original site, left when general closed. That feels like a metaphor for things in (pardon the pun) general.

Question from left field: What are your thoughts that perhaps these changes are being made in advance to entice a new wealthy member to join the board at Newgrounds inc.? Say for example… Y-Combinator?

The money situation does not make sense to me at present in any legal notion that I have.

I know! The money isn't even the wildest part. Don't get me wrong, the "appreciation prizes" to random NGers for years old content while Tom whinges about money is baffling. It's just not even the craziest of the shit going on:
  • seemingly no fallout from Shad in either the mainstream press nor the courts
  • continuing grooming scandals with associates of staff members as recently as last year (ie Dungeonation et al)
  • super early on Bluesky integration, as in within the first few months of the service
  • all in and early on age verification, sometimes even the very week a local law passes
  • the two points above despite constantly complaining about lack of coding resources and a years long backlog of account ruining bugs (ie many scouting system bugs)
  • Tom's weirdly antagonistic "you voted for it!" attitude about age verification despite being all about physically assaulting ICE officers and skirting all kinds of other laws
  • the site is hosted entirely in a single American datacenter despite the provider having insanely cheap co-hosting options. Not so much as a European cache server (huge red flag for a site of NG's size)
  • complying with European age verification laws anyway
  • the site completely flouting the bare minimum legal obligations for a TOS: no update emails, no accepting updated terms, terms hosted on an external wiki
  • just flat out not complying with PayPal/Stripes content guidelines
  • but then going on content witch hunts like the Amy-pocalypse
  • but then reversing those witch hunts overnight and re-instating the art
  • refusing to host FNF mods and seemingly rejecting any part in the multi-million dollar franchise
  • the same for GD
Is Tom insane? Is NG FBI compromised? I don't know, but it definitely has to be a terrible place to work or lifestyle business to run.

I'd also love a unifying theory to make it all make sense.

Tom has taken the Moot/Hausemaster route and give his account up to 3rd parties while he's somewhere up in Silicon Valley living a comfy 6 figure salary lifestyle as he revvs up Gemini 5.6 Pro Sol Fable Mythos V.10 to do IT for him.

Looks like the thread got removed, good riddance.

The answer to almost all moderation workload problems is and has always been a more distributed and democratic moderation process that relies on the users themselves.

First off, I am unsure that NG has the big dedicated userbase required for such a system. Secondly, and more worryingly, the vast majority of Newgrounds users are retarded. A lot of them leave a flat 5 stars for content that they simply DO NOT DISlike. You can't solve a "garbage in, garbage out" problem by increasing the amount of garbage input. The same issue will also be apparent with a democratic moderation process, the radicals will drive out the moderates or the opposition.

And also, a lot of them are kids that have either blatantly lied about their age or that have not lied about their age and are still allowed on the platform despite being under 16 years of age. This is not the kind of audience you want to have democratically moderating your site. Speaking of, why isn't there an option to report profiles or blog posts of kids under 16 on the site who are actively breaking the TOS? Why are they not getting banned? Is this because of FNF? Either way, the NG moderation team is not beating the groomer allegations if those were to appear.

You make an excellent case for why NG at war with its users but not for why it should expect to win. Battling with your own users/customers/brand seems to be one of the defining themes of our current era: Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, videogames... Almost all efforts to battle against the customers/users you have in an attempt to appeal to customers/users you want seems to reliably end in tears. You hate the droolin morons who always vote five. Shockwave thinks the site should be for the "fine arts". Great. Wonderful. Neither of you seem to argue any reason NG going to war with its own will have anything but the expected outcome of NG losing. If anything, recent history is already showing this with the closing of #general. The radicals are the base.

The one front in the war I might see as winnable is being anti-kid, as that's objective. The only thing is that Tom seems unwilling to actually pull the plug. We could cynically think this is because indeed NG is a grooming apparatus but I think even Tom realises that people age and the site has to have some onramp.

If NG had wanted to be a closed community for animation elites it should have done that after the first big fall in users. Instead, Tom has chosen to at least try and have NG limp along as semi-commercially viable or with hopes it might be. His problem is that the current moderation is completely in opposition to that goal and Tom seems to have no influence over them other than occasionally overriding some of their dumbest decisions if they happen to get enough public attention.

Been watching the neverknowsbest documentary on Zoe Quin and there was a part that was kinda interesting i did not know off. Apparently there was a game on Newgrounds were you could beat up Anita Sarkeesian that existed but was deleted by Tom Fulp himself for "disgusting behavior". Motherfucker, you had games of beating/killing Eminem and Britney Spears for almost two decades at that point. The creator also got doxed, harassed and lost his job because of this which later created another drama with someone else defending the creator getting into court for "cyber bullying"

Im just curious on how the reaction from the users of Newgrounds at the time was. Will link the video below.

So much of the horror of this moment is that people like Tom chose their side in the culture war based purely on social proof and just don't see a way back. To be fair, I don't want to offer him or anyone else a way back. The video itself lays out a pretty good case for why Tom was in the wrong but won't take the last step of condemning him.

There are so many moments in the video like that:

"This was all made worse by tit for tat and escalation."

"Yes, but X acted first against innocent party Y."

"Ha. Ha. Boy escalation is a bitch isn't it?"

It's infuriating and it clearly ties the video to the greater leftist machine trying to recently walk back from overstepping a line while at the same time admitting no fault. It feels like this video and the recent AOC "woke that was crazy" interview were planned at the same "whoops" strategy meeting.

I am not a second grade teacher. I care who started it. I cannot be made whole and I am quite happy with a pyrrhic victory at this point. Tom and other soft faggots didn't mean any harm but intentions aren't outcomes. Fuck em.
