So much of the horror of this moment is that people like Tom chose their side in the culture war based purely on social proof and just don't see a way back. To be fair, I don't want to offer him or anyone else a way back. The video itself lays out a pretty good case for why Tom was in the wrong but won't take the last step of condemning him.
There are so many moments in the video like that:
"This was all made worse by tit for tat and escalation."
"Yes, but X acted first against innocent party Y."
"Ha. Ha. Boy escalation is a bitch isn't it?"
It's infuriating and it clearly ties the video to the greater leftist machine trying to recently walk back from overstepping a line while at the same time admitting no fault. It feels like this video and the recent AOC "woke that was crazy" interview were planned at the same "whoops" strategy meeting.

Damn... I didn't know Newgrounds had become so cucked until reading the last few pages of the thread. I know Jeff is a huge cuck and I should have known Tom would be too... but I didn't wanna believe it. I've got a lot of nostalgia for other old websites like YTMND, but Newgrounds is literally the first websites I ever frequented, I was watching that shit as a small child in 1999 and of course a big part of it was seeing all the edgy shit that was completely different from anything else I'd seen. It's always such a gut punch when people who were once near free speech absolutists turn into censorious leftist shills who absolutely do not equally apply their rules. Fuck... it's actually so depressing to see everything good from the past become homogenized fucking slop, Newgrounds especially narrowing "everything by everyone" to "state-apporved propaganda". Speaking of that tagline I remember when Tom changed it from "The problems of the future, today!" and I was on the forums decrying it even then as a kid... boy, I didn't know the extent of what was coming when I just wanted the site to keep it's old character.
The one front in the war I might see as winnable is being anti-kid, as that's objective. The only thing is that Tom seems unwilling to actually pull the plug.
I was wrong to assign Tom any remaining thought for the future. He really does mean for the site to just be a monument to the aging underachievements of his friends. He's pulled M for kids and anyone who isn't age-verified. For the moment, you can still see M rated content if you log out. If and when he pulls that, I don't see how the site even maintains enough SEO to be Google-able.

Back in the day the argument from professionals was that Flash wasn't a serious animation tool because of its line assist and tweening features. The main difference being that internet was not as easily and widely accessible as it is today. Also I still don't see the problem with restricting M content (which is supposed to be 17+ but really it's more like 18+ from the content) from 16yo kids and how its me suddenly "thinking NG should never had existed". You just say shit and pretend you're smart.

Do you mean that the damage similar content did back in the day didn't count because it was less widespread? If that's your angle, you'd be numerically wrong because a casual check of Google Trends shows NG was an order of magnitude bigger in the early aughts, so if anything the negative impact should have been worse back in the day.

Fair enough that he doesn't shout out to Newgrounds in any of the interviews (though he admits drug and alcohol addiction so why not?). More interesting to me was his falling off NG when I consider him a staple of Takeover Tuesday. The thing is, I looked through his back catalog and noticed a number of dis tracks against figures like ThatJohnnGuy and Dungeonation before they were outed and I realised it's a common pattern with "rising stars" on NG.
I don't know why this in particular really jarred me, but it did. It just really made me think how a number of NG "outsiders" seem to have issues with members of the "inner circle" that later end up being pedos and how often inner circlers who end up being pedos beat up on rising newcomers (Dungeonation was famous for this).
Utah, Goldfish, and MindChamber still work for the site directly or have official duties.

It really does seem there's a "not a pedophile" ceiling on NG and I wonder how much of it is explicit and how much is people just starfucking.
