EA just announced a new Skate game at EA Play.

It seems like they just started working on it because there's no info on it at all. No features, no release window, no trailer, no concept art, no logo, not even an official title, nothing. All we know is it's being made by a lot of the original devs from the now-defunct studio Black Box and it's not that mobile port of Skate 3 Jason Dill complained about.

Presumably it will launch on next gen consoles in a few years.

The devs claim that everyone spamming EA's social media with "Make Skate 4" helped convince EA to make it happen, but I think the wildly positive response to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 had more to do with it.

Interview with the devs at Jenkem that reveals minimal info:

Fallen Order got the same non-anouncement announcement treatment and was out less than 18 months later. And with how long EA has been dragging their ass on this, the game could be further along than it would normally seem.

This is also EA, so it's going to be shit for one reason or another.

It seems like EA just announces stuff and releases it shortly after. Apex Legends being a prime example.

Skate 2 and 3 are among my favorite games of all time, and I could not possibly be more excited for this.
Given how it's EA, I'm skeptical. Not to say I was shocked, but given their track record, it could go either way.

I hope they get rid of the "team aspect" from Skate 3. That was unnecessary.

The team aspect doesn't work that well in Skate's high score modes since you can't really use teamwork. It's 4 players (or 1 player and 3 AIs) playing independently from each other and no way to coordinate, with the weakest players dragging the team down. Especially AI since it's literally a random number generator.

A better system would be either an objective based mode where teams rush around an area and do objectives before their opponents (kickflip down the stairs, do an invert in the pool), or a Tony Hawk style graffiti mode where you claim objects by doing tricks on them, and can steal them from your opponents by getting more points than they did at the same spot, with the team with the most objects at the end winning.

Those two would at least have coordination and planning the routes.

Plus your teammates would get in the way sometimes. The online aspect was hit and miss too. You needed to be in a preset team to participate, no matchmaking.

And refine the physics. Or make the goals less strenuous. I hope they don't bring back the S.K.A.T.E minigame as well. That was based on luck.

Important to note:
- 1 open world
Didn't Skate 3 have one big world? I remember Skate 1 where the world was divided between sections. You'd have to ride the subway to quick travel.

Somebody mentioned that the game "reminded them of Skate 2."

Nah, Skate 3 was the one divided into sections. Skate 1 had the subway but mostly because the game's fast travel was so limited.

I hope they make the bail physics more reasonable. Skate 2's physics had the player immediately ragdoll on the slightest impact, but 3 went too far in the other direction and all the bails look like throwing an action figure around.

No matter which direction I skated in 2, I always seemed to end up at the aquarium, while in 3 I always ended up at the red and white skatepark. Id didn't mean to go there; I always just ended up there anyway. Anyone else find this?

They're at the bottom of the hills. Naturally you'd reach them if you kept riding.

Usually indie developers would show pre alpha footage as trailer footage. Points for honesty.
They've been saying how they want to do it right and listen to the community.
I was apprehensive because it's an EA game and they could just be lying, but this is reassuring. It also proves most of the leaks legit.

They have a playtesting program that'll let you beta test Skate 4 if you get in that you can sign up for here:
