There is a community of people who believe that the best way to give birth is to do so in a "natural" way without the usage of modern medicine. Some of the community see modern childbirth as being some sort of conspiracy of unclear intent. Other members engage in downright suicidal activities such as going in the ocean and swimming with wild dolphins while giving birth (despite dolphins engaging in infanticide and killing infants of other species as practice, as well as the simple problem of possibly drowning).

Such throwbacks. It's like the argument that the Luddites would make all the time but taken to an even more illogical extreme.

The drama out of these communities is always intense but more often than not involves dead babies and midwives being charged with murder/manslaughter. I'm thinking of one incident in particular that got big coverage, but I don't remember the names of anyone involved. Something about a midwife purposefully taking the mother in a critical condition to an out of the way hospital with a "pro natural birth" doctor, and in doing so gave the baby enough time to die. It was a total shit show.

What happens if one of them gets a really bad tear "down there", something that was a common reason women bled out during childbirth back in the bad old days?

ok so let me get this straight. not only are they risking their lives, but lives actually on a common basis ARE LOST?

well doctors are evil people who want to give kids autism for reasons. I mean doctors without borders must really be a degenerate pedo cult

Yeeeahhhhhh.... not gonna comment much because power level, but there's something about being a parent of a young child that makes a Certain Type Of Person(TM) judgmental as all fuck, and they seek ways to make their parenting skills look superior. One of these is to have a needlessly complicated and, as has been pointed out here, dangerous childbirth.

Powerlevel-Free opinion: You have the right to raise your child however you want, your parenting decisions are yours, HOWEVER, giving birth to that child is still an extremely risky process even in the best of situations, and if something does go wrong, you will want to be in the hands of a trained medical doctor in a hospital setting. Any other scenario EXPONENTIALLY increases the potential for disaster.

Well I was looking for the case I was thinking of, but found this one from 2012 instead.

With home births growing more popular in the U.S., the death of a home birth advocate who went into cardiac arrest during childbirth brings renewed attention to the debate over the safety of giving birth at home.

Caroline Lovell, who advocated for midwife funding and legal protection in Australia, died Jan. 24, a day after she was rushed to the hospital during labor, according to the Herald Sun newspaper. Lovell, 36, had planned a home birth and was believed to have been assisted by private midwives, the paper said.

Before she was taken to the hospital, Lovell held her newborn daughter, named Zahra, who survived. She has a 3-year-old sister named Lulu.

I'm sure it was worth proving a point, though.

Dolphins literally rape porpoises to death, gangrape each other, and kill their own young / the young of other dolphins they want to rape. I wouldn't want a newborn anywhere near those fuckers.

I miss the days when hippies gave birth in the backs of flower patterned vans.
Hey, at least they are in a car and thus can put the pedal to the metal when push comes to shove and go to a hospital.

Geez. I don't wanna imagine what happens when the woman gets a cramp during childbirth.

Why risk the death of you and your child for the vanity of being a :tumblr:?
Oh right, retards that think healthcare is run by reptiloids that want to give the 'tism to their offspring by vaccinating them against polio.

I had a college professor of human anatomy who was a natural birth proponent. It was some of the strangest cognitive dissonance I've ever experienced - she went into all the details regarding baby development and the process of birth and whatnot in the reproductive section of the course just fine, but it wasn't until I took a DIFFERENT anatomy course with a male professor that we actually got any information about birth defects and all the usual fuckups that happen and need, y'know, attention from an ACTUAL FUCKING DOCTOR. Didn't realize it was some shady shit until well after I'd graduated.

Also, I kinda wish Hathor the Cow Goddess was still relevant, I bet that crazy bitch would be able to provide a ton of lulzy material on this subject.

I'll admit all I'm just thinking is: "Nevermind..."

I once read an old translated book on how Aztecs would give herbs and proper sanitation to woman giving birth to ease the pain and make it as painless as possible while ensuring the survival of both the mother and child.
now we use the same thing but with more advanced medicine; So when I hear about these people, I cringe because they are more savage than people who sacrificed people to keep the sky from falling.

I excised someone from my facebook years ago for this sort of shit. In my experience it is intimately tied to bullshit feminist academic ideology, but even further than that a specific sect of it, namely the insane mysticism and worship of the "female" as godlike and sacred. Like those feminist "anthropologists" and "historians" who made up all sorts of nonsense in support of a widespread, powerful and successful matriarchal society in european pre-history that totally existed you gais, but was displaced by evil meany patriarchal ones. And of course it was moral and scientifically advanced and had sets of values surprisingly similar to those of old fat narcissistic shrews thousands of years into the future, by some quirk of destiny.

Anyways, you can argue with doula's about their convictions if you wish, but it's as satisfying as arguing with religious people about their religion, with as much chance of compromise and change.

I once saw a video on Discovery Channel or something about these people, and she COOKED and ATE her placenta!
