I do have to say, as someone who watched Cosmo pretty adamantly when I could catch him, it's pretty depressing to see just how fragged his mind is.

this is the saddest thread i've ever looked through. it's like watching a trainwreck.

There are a lot of people joking around about how losing at the Nintendo World Championships, or the fact that his girlfriend beat one of his records "broke him" and there's a kernel of truth to that. Mental illness and psychotic breaks are often brought on by stress at work, with people who are predisposed to it.

It's one thing to go trans, of course losing some supporters would be expected

Apparently him going full troon isn't even the biggest reason for this train wreck. It's just icing on top of the lol cake.

From what I've read and researched online, here's roughly what happened:

1: Cosmo starts getting hand problems that prevent him from playing. At the same time he started to talk about "losing his passion" for speed running. He quits, pissing off his fans.

2. He starts getting into Mario Brawl. How serious his hand issues are is a good question, since he doesn't seem terribly serious in dealing with it. Talks some more about "exploring his passions". Is a dick to fans, barely ever streams.

3. Comes out as trans. Keeps on being a dick to fans, insist that he doesnt want to do anything he doesnt have a passion for, wants them to watch him do art instead of speedrunning.

4. Adventures in E-begging, which is roughly where we are now.

narcissa. get a job. seriously. you can even find online jobs(that aren't e-begging...that doesn't count.) just produce content. it's not difficult. you used to do it and it worked very well. jesus christ...

Working for GameStop does sound horrible, even for him. Probably especially for him, although he does seem to have a disposition for negativity towards him, and gamestop gets a lot of that on its own, so maybe it's a match made in heaven.

If he would actually do some basic shit to actually learn to code, going through some of the basics, it might've actually been decent for twitch creative. Or if he would really collect idea's and thoughts for that board game it could've actually been interesting to see the creative process to make whatever the fuck it is he's thinking of. regardless of what caused the decline, it's all just very weird to see. watching a person change so drastically for the worse is a bit surreal.
the most jarring thing is the personality shift, for sure. troon or not, it would be completely fine if cosmo, as narcissa, maintained a pleasant personality. i'm sure mental illness comes into play there too, which probably ensured emotional and mental instability. who knows what mental issues narcissa could have potentially been hiding before the "break"?
then there's the sketchy medications and hormones she's apparently taking....this really is a mess.

i wonder what the parents think about narcissa's choices.

He probably wanted Smash to be his next big thing after speedrunning. He's been interested in the competitive scene for a long time and a few Melee pros were regulars in his Twitch chat. He's pretty damn good, too (more at Smash 4/Brawl than Melee, IIRC) despite his alleged hand problems. He's one of the few people who can make Zelda (generally held to be an awful, low-tier character) a legitimate threat.

If he made a push into the competitive scene (especially Melee) and practised well enough to place in some tournaments, he could've established a new fan base and gone pretty far. There's a lot of overlap with the speedrunning and the FGC - zfg for example attends a lot of Smash events on the side and is friends with many of the same Melee pros, and while he's not amazing at the game I'd think Cosmo, a far more dedicated player with clear tech skills and knowledge of the scene, could've gone pro if he put his mind to it.

His hand problems (if not exaggerated) are his only good excuse for why this didn't happen, because instead of putting his mind to it he chose to twirl around a dark room while gibbering into a webcam, begging for money and abusing drugs that worsen his mental illness.

He's a lazy, egotistical prima donna envious of his former peers' success and money, but because this persona of Narcissa is an extremely famous and attractive "pop star" beloved by all and hated by none, he thinks the issue is just that people ignorantly refuse to recognise that reality, or that he's not being "Narcissa" enough and needs to embrace the drugs and psychosis that make him feel more like "her".

If Cosmo is mixing hormones, heavy duty meds, and weed without proper medical oversight that could explain a lot of his current lunacy. On a slightly :powerlevel: note, when my mother took klonopin she turned into a totally different, totally batshit person and she wasn't changing her gender at the same time.

Yeah, thats not unusual at all with benzodiazepines like klonopin.

Klonopin and Xanax are usually considered the most harmful benzo's to start taking, but for completely different reasons. Xanax because it's the crack of benzodiazepines, powerful and short acting. Klonopin because of its very long half life. If you start taking it every day, or even just every other day you'll never get out of the benzo fog.

For somebody using Klonopin to battle alcoholism, that can be a lifesaving trade off. But for a troon who spends his/her time e-begging and thinking they're a popstar? Not so much.

I'm sure the old Cosmo could have come up with something decent if he had thrown himself at it, but Narcissa? Meh...

You can hear when he talks about it, that it's just some halfassed idea, that he'd like to do in an ideal world, where he wouldn't have to put in any effort. Like the board game he also mentions in the Kotaku interview.

When the ally-whoops, I mean interviewer starts asking him questions about it, he can't say anything else than "He's been thinking about it for a few years, and though he haven't come up with any rules yet, he's sure that his experience with speed running will be helpful, blah blah".

When it comes to concrete plans, even for the near future, this courageous, stunning woman turns into a little boy, who says he'd like to be a pilot or a fireman when he grows up...

Also: Who the hell names themselves "Narcissa"?!?

Granted, it's very fitting, but did he even know what it means?!?

Even if his hands are getting messed up, he could've found a way to make everything work. WHAT you're streaming is arguably less important than how you stream it. He could have easily made smash and mario maker work for the long haul until the new zelda comes out, although maybe mario maker gives him PTSD. I know some other pro smash players talk about their hands, but melee (and probably PM) are the ones that really take a toll on them, with smash 4 being at least LESS destructive to the joints.

I know one thing that might have contributed to him haulting speed running also was people criticizing him for playing on an iQue, but I don't really know to what extent people said about it.

Man this is sad. Like some others here, I was first introduced to speedrunning through a GDQ event (i think it was AGDQ 2011...). Cosmo was one of the biggest names and his OoT runs were amazing. I liked him because he just seemed so nice and down to earth - ya know, normal. That's pretty ironic now considering what he's become. I didn't even know the extent of this shit until now. All I remember seeing was the last video on his Cosmo channel where he said the channel was over, and I assumed he was just gonna abandon his social media accounts and live his life as a new person.

But no. I guess because he craves attention and doesn't want to get a job then he needs to stay in the public eye and e-beg for money. I don't even know what to say about his new 'Narcissa' personality. It's just so fucked up. He's lost his mind completely. Who knows what's going to go down when he truly runs out of money and even the most supportive fans get bored of the 2-hour whine videos.

Cosmo/Narcissa seems like the Dobson of speedrunning. Used to be well respected in the medium, quit and now does nothing but mope around on social media.

Granted Cosmo's speedrunning was more influential than any of Dobson's art was, which makes this sadder.

In her YouTube page the longest saved stream has 11:55 hours, the problem is that a lot of saved streams have this exact duration, I think YouTube can't save more than that, a technical limitation.

I'm afraid it's impossible to know precisely what was the longest session.

I'm sure he had some crazy long (24 hour) streams on twitch when he played Wind Waker/OOT. I remember one time he got a world record after a really long stream and spent extra 2 hours reading donations that the got in the end of the run lol

This video pretty much analyzes everything that's made her become a lolcow and the manipulation tactics she is trying to use on the little supporters she has left to get their money for nothing but "I've proven i'm worth your money"
