>Garland was 16 when she starred in 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz. The claim she was molested by the actors who played the munchkins comes from the actress's late husband, Sid Luft, in a re-released book (due out in September), Judy and I: My Life with Judy Garland.

>Journalists got distracted when, the day after the revelations, Stephen Hawking died and everyone looked the other way.

>Garland herself previously claimed the munchkins were "drunks" who partied all night. The police rounded them up in butterfly nets, she claimed. One reportedly asked her on a date.

That Wizard of Oz set sounds rad - who knew a film so happy and cheery had so much debauchery
Doubtful, the shoot was miserable for everyone. Jack Haley said about the shoot, "People question me, like you're questioning me now, say 'Must've been fun making "The Wizard of Oz".' It was not fun. Like hell it was fun. It was a lot of hard work. It was not fun at all."

The possibility of the munchkins molesting Judy Garland would be the cherry on the shit sundae.

I'm aquainted with someone who is Jerry Maren's neice, I'm really curious what her take on the story is. She's gone down the SJW path so she's hardcore into the #metoo thing.
I do hope this isn't true, if the guy is innocent he doesn't deserve to have his name smeared like that. Let him be an old munchin man in peace.

I hope that's true because that sounds fucking hilarious.
I actually choked with laughter thinking of that. Back then shit sounded like a lot more fun. Cops didn't have to worry about every asshole with a camera and could just give people wood shampoos or catch drunken midgets with butterfly nets. What a time to be alive back then.
The only way it could be more hilarious is if they forgot to take their costumes off before getting wasted and tried to beat the cops with a prop lollipop.
I can't imagine being a cop in the late 30's and being called to handle a bunch of drunken midgets in costumes. You show up with a paddy wagon and almost take a lollipop to the head.

Then a chorus of high-pitched midget voices talk about Judy Garland along the lines of: "She was beautiful, she was young, she was innocent. She was the greatest piece of ass we ever had and we had them all over da world!!!"

You shake your head as you haul a bunch of them drunk midgets to the tank to sober up. You look over to your fellow Irish cop and say "Getting too old for this shit, Seamus, gettin' too damn old for it, eh?"

One is still alive. Jerry Maren, who was mentioned in the article. Though TBH, the dude's 98. The last thing he needs is to have something that may or may not have happened almost 80 years ago rear its ugly head.

The internet turning on a guy pushing 100 is in really poor taste. So I hope they leave him alone. Sid Luft should have released this info a long time ago. Plus Jerry Maren probably can't remember what he had for breakfast anymore let alone what happened in 1939.

I heard about the drunken munchkin parties before. Although I think the butterfly nets sound like an elaboration. But who knows.

Maren is the guy in the middle.

Judy Garland's stand in Caren Marsh Doll is also still alive at age 99. She's the only other surviving cast member. As of last year she looked really good for her age and was still physically active and still driving. But when she and Jerry Maren are gone everyone from the film is. It's sad to see time march on like that.:(

I have no doubt that many of the munchkins were rowdy drinkers. Judy Garland had a lot of problems and there were always many rumors about bad things that happened to her when she was young. Didn't Mickey Rooney help himself to anything with tits?

This wouldn't surprise me if it was true, but considering how into booze and pills Judy got in her later life I doubt it was just munchkins pawing her. Dan Schneider's hardly the first of his kind working behind the scenes.

In any case, can't really implicate *every* munchkin. Individuals make the choice to do this kind of thing. And since most of them are dead and all we have is claims, the truth is pretty much lost to time.

The dead can't defend themselves. Without conclusive proof that specific munchkins were guilty it's something you just have to let go. Some of them had families and no one wants to have to deal with stories that great grandpa was a drunken rapist.

The SJW's on the net have no taste. They surely will harrass a 98 year old man if they can find out his info. Remember how Michael Moore basically attacked an Alzheimer's stricken Charleton Heston about some shit he said years before their little meeting? It was just pathetic.

The 30's were kind of crazy from the sound of it. Hell the entire last century was pretty fucking crazy if you think about it. No other century had such a jump in technology and culture like the way we did. Things changed so fast compared to others. Granted I would say the 19th century is a close second given how fast tech jumped for them.

I can totally see cops doing that. Hell I knew a guy who was an LAPD officer until the mid 90's and he said the 70's were really crazy. I can only imagine the kind of shit they got away with before the whole Rodney King thing broke out. That camcorder footage really changed how they acted from what he told me.

Also, I would kill to go to a Drunken Munchkin Party. Could you imagine drinking with a bunch of midgets? That shit has to get crazy.

I know what you mean. It's hard to watch movies like the Godfather now and seeing how half the cast is dead and the younger members of the cast are getting up there in years.

Yeah I wager the Weinstein thing is scratching the surface here. Hollywood is full of perverts.

I agree, let the dead rest. Unless there is conclusive proof someone did something, this kind of stuff is in bad taste and an exercise in futility. They're all dead. Let it go, am I right?

I remember way back in high school my physics teacher with a thick Brooklyn accent said: "What the hell do you think goes down in Hollywood? Ever watch the Wizard of Oz? Those munchkins were humping Dorothy!"

It just dawned on me...there's probably rule 34 of this happening. I don't want to look but I bet good money it exists. It always exists...

From the way I understand it, policing up to about the mid-1950's was pretty fast and loose with the rules. The LAPD is notable for having a lot of their more...interesting history documented (and for varying levels of corruption, considering Los Angeles was a hub for both the entertainment industry and organized crime). The "Bloody Christmas" incident in the 50's was maybe the first big event where they had to go into damage control over brutality. So back then- if no one saw it, it didn't happen. You played a little rough with the suspect- maybe he was 'resisting arrest'.

I would imagine that even if anything like this did happen, there would have been payouts from MGM to keep the press and the police away from it.

Exactly. I had a friend whose dad was a new Orleans cop in the 70s. He said back then they carried drop guns and that a lot of corrupt shit happened than one would imagine even for Orleans. I can only imagine what prohibition Era style corruption looked like.
