Among the negative reviews (that is not stupid political shitting) the following are typical:

"Trash among trash
I never expect Disney to produce such trash-grade trash. The live of Mulan, and the way she joins the army, is depicted all too briefly and hastily. Going back to being a girl in mere minutes, dispatching a whole enemy army with a few gestures of her hands. Then she proceeds to be the Emperor's bodyguard. She is plainly imbued with super martial-arts power, whomever she means to kill, she just kills. It is obvious this film is made to bilk the brainless viewers from
that region. Unfortunately, given the epidemic, not even the brainless are willing to surrender their money."

"Bad box office is a given
I won't talk politics but I'll just the movie on its own merits. 1) The all-powerful "Qi". It is mentioned at the beginning and is not alluded to again until the boss fight at the very end. Completely unpersuasive; only
gweilos will be duped. 2) The central message of the movie is supposed to be "Loyal, Brave, True" (this is the title of the theme song as well), yet the director cannot demonstrate
the idea with deeds. It's just talk, talk, talk, are we watching a
Very Special Episode? 3) The phoenix motif is pure cliché. I can look past it if they only do it for once, Disney needs to cater for everyone after all, but they keep doing it, for the second third fourth fifth time! What's the point of watching it? #BoycottMulan"
