The other problem with woke characters is that they aren't allowed to face any hardship or SJWs will still screech.

I remember The Last of Us 2, and people were complaining that Lem's mother deadnamed and misgendered her. Uh, yeah? She's the VILLAIN! But it didn't matter; even if it's the villains doing bad things they still reeeee.

Also, I find it funny, and to be fair I didn't play LoU2 I just watched it, that Lem wasn't even transgender. There's a cutscene where Lem's sister explains that their mom wanted Lem to marry some guy that Lem didn't want to, so Lem decided to change her identity to a male. Umm, that's not transgender then by your own storyline.

LoU2 does everything hilariously wrong when it comes to "diversity and inclusivity". They inserted a synagogue that doesn't exist IRL into Seattle so Dina could talk about how enduring through hardship is part of her Jewish identity because of the Holocaust. And then later on she gets violently beaten and almost murdered by the troon looking girl, Abby. And the game frames Abby to be the good guy of the story. Was this a commentary about Jews vs. Troons' place on the progressive stack, or something?

Am I the only one who thought that racebending the characters in BH6 was kinda retarded? Like owo honey lemon is a beaner nerd for sum reason...
Wasn't her only sign of being hispanic too just rolling her r's when she said hiro?
The same thing happened in scoob where all of a sudden velmas mexican from out of nowhere with that "increíble!" line and it came off just as cringey and forced. Talk about lazy writing.

"All characters are equal, but some characters are more equal than others."

Mary Sue-sploitation is a direct result of Identity Politics: the belief that the "system" holds certain people back because of their race, sex, or orientation, and SJW writers think a good way to "re-rig the game to be fair" is to give minorities superpowers from the start. It's basically a form of Affirmative Action only it's being pushed in the realm of fiction, not the workplace.

It's also due to the laziness of SJW writers and consoomers. These soy-drenched folks are literally triggered at the thought of having to work hard for something, or having to stand on their own merits. They salivate at the idea of life just handing things to them, so that's how they like to imagine their power-fantasy main characters. Super Powers, Beauty, Moral Authority - SJWs think they're automatically entitled to these things just because they occupy a certain place on the Victim Stack. There's also an element of "For the CHILDREN" hysteria going on. Feminists screech : "You can't show a female hero getting injured, kidnapped, or having to WORK to achieve her goals! You'll discourage all of the little girls who look up to them as role models! You don't want little girls GIVING UP their dreams because they think they're TOO HARD!" Of course the end result of this is a bunch of entitled little brats who think life will be easy for them because they saw a movie where a sullen Mary Sue hero was handed powers and declared the most awesomest person in the galaxy because VAGINA. Then the little brats enter the workforce and are fired the first day because their bosses refuse to coddle them the way their pop culture media does.
As someone who writes and draws, I always, always, always try to give a character of mine some sort of problem. Hell, if the story or development calls for it, I'll have that problem harm or even kill them, because that makes good storytelling. A character either faces no challenges at all or overcomes challenges with little effort is not only belittling, but totally destorys the cycle of The Hero's Journey (which is one of the most well-known and easiest ways to craft a story).
heros_journey4_8462.png
Once you remove conflict that challenges the character, any sort of development that comes with it is moot or devoid of worth, which is why it's soooo fucking insulting to me as an artist, as a storyteller and as a woman.
The animated version of Mulan is a perfect example of a little girl's power fantasy: sneak in to the military ('Boys Only') to keep your dad from being recruited and dying a painful death hundreds of miles away from you and the rest of the family, but by going into that unknown, you have to prove your worth by working hard and being smart, because the world is not kind and will never give you everything you want unless you work for it. And the movie shows that- nothing is ever handed to Mulan, she has to work, get dirty and risk being hurt or even killed to get where she is at the end.

But this remake may as well be called "MuSue" since it's just another Mary Sue to throw into the pile of 'fictional characters no one should look up to'; I fucking hate that trope so damn much. ...Now that I think about it, I seem to put my female characters through worse shit than my male characters.

Legit fuck these ivory tower coddled adults with the mentalities of 12 year olds who think they're oh-so-progressive by cranking the Godmod to 15 while placing woman in bubble wrap in our brief attempts of escapism. To me, they're worse than the meanies (lol) who try to get a rise out of me in a multiplayer match, because at least I'll get a friend request or two from it.

At least the direct-to-video sequels had a purpose. They were meant for little kids to watch. "Oh, my kid loves the original Aladdin, so I'll let him watch these other movies to enjoy while I get some housework done today." That's what those movies are for, and you know what? Whatever, man. I get it, even if they're technically bad movies.
I think in a lot of cases they were meant to be suitable for kids whose parents grew up with the original, but decided that the originals suddenly weren't okay for their kids to watch. My ex's cousins grew up to be this type of parent, basically not letting their kids watch anything vaguely upsetting ever. It gave them the benefit of giving their kids something to watch that was nostalgic for them (the parents) without the worry about the kids asking what happened to Bambi's mom, or why Mufasa was gone after being shoved off a cliff by Scar.

Yikes, talk about sheltering your kids too much. Unchallenging, happy-go-lucky stuff is fine every so often, don't get me wrong ... However, if that is all your kids are exposed to, then damn. Those parents are set on their children growing up to be absolute wimps.

The appeal to Walt Disney, the person, was that he never underestimated his audience-- no matter what the age. He never, ever thought that kids were stupid. That's what made the Disney brand so ginormous in the first place: A film company that makes entertainment for all ages.

I remember seeing The Lion King in theaters back in 1994. I was really young. I cried in the theater when Mufasa died. I sure as hell sat through the rest of the movie, completely captivated on what was going to happen next though, and I ended up seeing The Lion King multiple times in theaters that Summer, and then I went with my family to see it again when it was re-released to theaters that year during the Holidays. It was, without a doubt, my favorite movie for a couple of years, even though I was really sad about Mufasa dying.

The point that I'm making is that kids are smarter than adults think. Kids know what's good a lot of the time ... That's why movies like The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, and so many of the classic Disney movies have stood the test of time. And all of these movies have dark and scary moments in them.

These remakes have already failed the test of time. Sure, the Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, and Lion King remakes each made over a billion dollars at the box office in recent years. However, literally nobody is talking about them anymore, and some of these movies came out only a year ago. It's not the kids who get on the hype train with these remakes; it's always the damn millennials who generate the fleeting buzz about them.

When I asked for China shill tweets that was before it came out they were filming in an area with re-education camps and thanking government officials involved. Most people are calling it what it is but I'm sure there are tards out there who will say it's not what it looks like or Disney dindu nuffin. Perhaps even Disney and CCP shills blaming each other for this.

It has been reported that Chinese authorities have now ordered major news outlets across the country to avoid covering the upcoming release of the live-action Disney remake. While an official reason was not provided to those outlets, there is speculation that overseas backlash against the film, and its links to Xinjiang, prompted the coverage ban.

...

Mulan was released on Disney+ and in theaters in certain markets. The film is set to release in Chinese theaters on Sept. 11. Current statistics show that Mulan has already sold 9.78 million yuan ($1.43 million) in tickets. Some analysts estimate it will ultimately earn 150 million yuan ($22 million) in China

Fucking beautiful, their China simping ended in complete and total failure. :story:

First the Wuflu destroys their prospects of a massive China hit and now the CCP is putting a lid on it because the backlash is drawing too much attention to the concentration camps.

In the words of the Society Clown Man movie, you get what you fucking deserve.

Does anyone know what exactly 'caused' this random fear in new parents, who should've lived through the same thing themselves? Why now do they think it's suddenly not okay for their own kids?

I've always wondered this, since parenting has been going more PC since the 90s. Anyone have their own ideas?

The thing is, even without the China selling-out, it's still a shitty movie with a Mary Sue protagonist that never has to face any hardships. The original Mulan had to work her ass off to get to the level of her fellow soldiers, and even then she had to rely more on her wits than brute strength. This Mulan starts off better than her counterparts and her "challenge" is to hide how awesome she really is. That's bad storytelling.

When selling out fails to sell and you get your shit thrown under the bus by the CCP :story:
The Commies routinely stab each other in the back for reasons varying from party purity, to perceived slight, to personal financial gain. And these are their own "comrades" whom their ideology tells them are their moral equals and that they need to work together towards a common goal, and they'll cannibalize each other at the first solid opportunity. What the fuck exactly did a wealthy western media company like Disney expect was gonna happen? They're the fucking ENEMY to these assholes. The fact that China outright banned an entire $6 billion property Disney owns based on nothing more than a relative handful of shitposters on the internet making memes comparing their dictator to Winnie the Poo should tell Disney exactly how tenuous ANY relationship with the Chinese is. Fucks sake, China bans more shit than they let in, and anything that does get let in is invariably being edited to meet the criteria set forth by the CCP, which are often quite ludicrous.
The Chinks are fiercely protective of their revisionist history and what they pass for "culture" over there, and ANYTHING that is seen as potentially tarnishing it or not portraying it in a positive enough light gets the axe. Disney should have predicted the fuck out of this from the get go. The fact that the original Mulan made it into China at all is actually quite amazing as the 90s was when the CCP really started ramping up their censorship after the Tiananmen Square incident. The movie contained several things the commies have desperately tried to scrub from the Chinese social consciousness for awhile, like the Chinese tradition of ancestor worship and the portrayal of the supernatural like ghosts and mythical creatures.

TL;DR -

The remake completely misses the point of Mulan looking, sounding, and acting like a boy. Makes her out to be a glory hound instead of someone who just wanted to save her dad from overwork.

The ironic thing? I love her outfit. It combines both masc and fem styles. They should have the character actresses in the parks wear that outfit. I do not understand why they never had her wear the dress from the end of the animated film because its the one she wears in almost all media about her including her funko pop.
The matchmaker outfit is stupid because she didn't want that life. I don't understand why she still wears it in the park

She also is perfect from the start. When she first went in the army the other men made men of her despite not being good themselves. When she climbs to the top using both her wits and strength they gain some respect for her. Soon they all get trained and become equals. They respect her and she respects them. Even when her identity is found out. Sure, Shang didn't at first but he was hurt. He felt betrayed and lied to by someone he thought he could trust. If someone were to find out a person they were close to were really someone else they would feel betrayed too. If they lied about that what else did they lie about. Soon Shang sees Mulan is still Ping no matter what she wears or looks like. The original wasn't scared to have some humor. The grandmas gets two great lines at the end.

Grandmother: Great, she brought home a sword. If you ask me, she should have brought home a man.
Shang: [walks in] Excuse me, does Fa Mulan live here?
Grandmother: [aside] Ooh, sign me up for the next war!

Then a moment later.

Mulan: (to Shang) Would you like to stay for dinner?
Mulan's Grandmother: (shouting across the yard) WOUKD YOU LIEK TO STAY FOREVER?
Shang: (amused smile) Dinner would be great.

I've always wondered this, since parenting has been going more PC since the 90s. Anyone have their own ideas?

I'm not a parent, but from what I've seemed to glean from this coddling (or emotional disconnect, it looks to be either or) of the new generation is because of social media and the 'everything you grew up okay with is white supremacy and powerful, evil nazis are everywhere and out to get you' propaganda the blue check marks throw around like confetti. I mean, you are a good parent, right? And your parents were shit at raising you which, come on, a lot are lying about or blowing things out of proportion.
A lot of millennials are delusional narcs because social media harbors cliques that will say how great you are and pat your ass forever if you make a sad enough sob story about how shitty your life is - getting grounded for smoking pot isn't as dramatic as being locked in your room and starved by your parents because mom and dad found your prescription to treat your depression and they don't want you to get better or whatever. So they revv up the helicopters and grab the participation trophies because "FUCK YOU MOM AND DAD, YOU BIGOTS, I CAN DO BETTER."

I accidentally came across late night horror movies- which gave me years-long nightmares, learned what trespassing and vandalism was, and got bullied a lot as a kid. Sure, maybe having my parents around at those times could have made my life less fucked (because they wouldn't have happened in the first place), but I know now that there was no way they could, as much as I know they tried to do as best they could- which was a fucking lot. And sometimes you just got to learn why you should never touch the stove when it's on, anyway.

I was given trophies and awards and praise, but that was because I had the opportunity to earn it and I was taught that I had to work hard to get them...and I did. My parents didn't complain about how it's not fair I didn't get the same amount of bowling trophies and patches as my teammates did during summer little league - "You're just going to have to practice more", was their reply if I or my brother pouted about it.

They did their best to protect me from bad things, but they didn't put on a bike helmet and roll me up in bubble wrap, either. And knew what the word 'No' was lol. Oh yeah, and they never used me or my brother as a prop make themselves look better (ie, "My daughter wanted to go to the BLM protest so badly, I couldn't say no! She didn't even cry when the tear gas was deployed UwU")

...Or something like that. Again, I'm not a parent, or someone who has had horrible parents or makes my parents out to be horrible, so I could be wrong.

I think it's our collective fear of failure and assumption of failure inevitably being high stakes, so better not risk it. Explains a lot, really.

We're in changing times and have apparently gone collectively ape shit.

Too many resources in a society creates hedonism. Hedonism weakens people. Weak people know they would never be able to compete in a world where resources were few and actions had natural consequences, so they try to destroy and cover up any evidence that the former, rougher world existed. They declare heroes of the past to be evil oppressors filled with toxic masculinity and topple down all of their statues. They declare media of the past to be racist/sexist/homophobic because it doesn't portray a world where POCs and Wymyn were responsible for all of the world's greatest accomplishments. They screech about cartoons hurting children because 97 percent of the onscreen characters aren't some form of made up genderqueer. They want to cancel Shakespeare because MacBeth wasn't filled with twerking transwymyn. They want to cancel every historical figure who acted as a product of his/her time and declare them all to be evil and persona non grata till the heat death of the Universe. Not even the Muslims are this meticulous when it comes to rubbing out everything past and present that doesn't conform to their world view, and even if Muslims DO make you convert at sword point, at least they don't change the rules every few hours so what was thought of as a perfectly right and reasonable action one day is declared a capital offense the next.

In short, prosperity is turning people into faggots and the faggots want to make it a crime to not be a faggot, or to even acknowledge that people who weren't faggots ever existed in the first place. Hence the reason why the Mulan of 20 years ago was an average but resourceful heroine who figured out how to overcome her physical shortcomings to become an effective warrior, and the Mulan of today is INVINCIBLE VAGINA JUST BECAUSE.

Also, when I say "faggot," I'm not talking about gay people who aren't faggots, K? Just the mostly non-gay people who are.

That doesn't even work in this film because the Commander said that if a soldier can't live up to his expectations, they would have to go back.

So why doesn't the Father just go back?
