Most overrated games.

I must be in the minority, because dungeons were always my least favorite parts of Zelda games. I know that's insane, but it's why before BOTW, Majora's Mask was my favorite game of the series. There was so much more to do past just dungeons.

And honestly, I think the reason they are my least favorite is simply because I don't enjoy puzzles. I can do them, and in BOTW, they are quick and spread out enough to not get annoying, but the battle shrines were always my favorite ones, by far.
And yeah, the Divine Beasts were also my least favorite parts of BOTW, for the same reasons.

I actually had an unfortunate talk with some 'gamer girl' who worked at a shop once, and she drove me crazy. "My life is busy enough for games, I don't need fluff in Zelda games, just get to the dungeons" (She didn't like BOTW because the dungeons weren't out in the open right away); a textbook "I only play for the dungeons" player, and she annoyed the ever loving hell out of me.
I don't like the dungeons either. A lot of Zelda puzzles just feel more like busywork than anything, and the solution is almost always "use the item you just found to do this thing you've seen before but couldn't do because you didn't have the right item for it".

Though the puzzles in BotW's shrines were, for the most part, good. They tended to be quick and fairly clever, and always used the smattering of gear you got right at the start of the game.
Zelda fanboys tell me I'm crazy whenever I say it because apparently finding tiny little islands is like a masterclass in exploration gameplay. Maybe I am crazy, but I just found the whole thing repetitive and boring.

Maybe Wind Waker just came out at a time where my tastes changed though. I didn't hate Twilight Princess but I've only ever played it once, didn't even play Skyward Sword cause it looked boring. I liked Breath of the Wild but I've also heard a lot of people complain that it is a "bad Zelda" so *shrug*

Breath of the Wild is the best game of the series by a country mile and the first 3D one to not be yet another Ocarina clone. So I guess if Zelda is just Ocarina of Time's gameplay over and over to you, it'd be unfamiliar and scary. But, hell, it's the only other Zelda game aside from the very first one to be open world, and that really suits the series best.

I know this is a bad idea to say, but I really think Animal Crossing New Horizons is pretty overrated. I don't consider it bad by any means, but people are losing their shit over it and it really isn't that special. Idk, that's just my opiion.

I haven't played it so it really doesn't matter what I think probably, but it just looks like the other Animal Crossing games I've played.

Persona/SMT
Now, i personally really like these game series but i can't explain how pretentious people are because of them. EVERYONE becomes Socrates and Plato playing one of these games. It's 2deep4you plebs. Persona became weeb tier after 2 and SMT is for angsty fat neckbeards who hate muh religion and think they're smarter than they actually are.

Ironically enough, SMT actually made me appreciate religion even more. All these different demons and gods from different mythologies and texts just gives the games a very special kind of feeling.

The dungeons are my least favorite parts of Zeldas as well, sometimes they can be fun but they go on for a while and oftentime get very tedious, it's always a great feeling when you finish one and are back out in the overworld.

I think my favorite Zelda dungeons though out of the ones I've played are A Link To The Past and Minish Cap, something about them being in 2D makes them more fun to me, when they're in 3D, because there's a lot more complexity, there's a lot more tedium.

It's funny how there exists that schism between Zelda fans of those that prefer the dungeons and those that prefer the overworld.

From my experience Zelda nerds hail Wind Waker as the GOAT now. Usually for the completely exceptional reasoning that Ganon being a whiney bitch boy at the end made it "the best story in the series"

I admit Wind Waker is my personal fav, I just love the artstyle so much and for me the sailing really worked, it breaks my heart that it never got a Gamecube follow up, I've never been able to get into Twilight Princess and would gladly trade TP for a 'Cube Wind Waker sequel in a flash.

But the GOAT is indeed Breath of the Wild, what a phenomenal game that is, I only wish there was a little more to the story.

My favorite Zeldas by the way in no particular order would be.

Breath of The Wild
Wind Waker
Ocarina of Time
A Link To The Past
Minish Cap

It's basically every other animal crossing game. The main difference is that there is a tutorial in the beginning, designing is easier, you can terraform, they got rid a bunch of characters/watered the rest down so much they lost their entire personality. It's really ashamed. It feels like the series has progressively sold out.

I think we can all agree pokemon is the most overrated franchise. Gen 5 felt like it was the only one that tried to be different (that slappin ost) but the smoothbrains and genwunners just reeeee'd about it for not being like the other games. Same thing happened to X/Y with the mega evolution.

It literally looks exactly the same as every other game in the franchise I've seen. My guess is this comfy time killer came just at the right time, when people had nothing to do, were fed up, or hiding inside. Pretty genius timing, intentional or not.

Nier Automata. It was the laziest Taro game and the lore/reveals felt underwhelming to me.

I feel like pokemon is just a good autistic kid's game and nothing else. The general gameplay is really too simple and grindy for me to have replay value. It just gets fucking boring so fast.

That is why Nuzlock is such a great way to play it. It makes each fight turn into a "real" issue.

I will say Alternate Forms/Mega Evolutions/Z-moves were a god damn dumpsterfire.

Super Mario 64. Might be because I didn't grow up with it, but when I played it a few years ago, I didn't see anything special about it like most people online seem to claim.

Super Mario Sunshine is better, anyways.

Tempted to say Final Fantasy 7. It's been said before and often is said by turn-based nerds who go into the minutiae of how there's better turn based combat out there.
I say it's overrated because it's too popular for its own good. Everything added to it, because it was popular, has been shit. The Remake being literally the best addition and still having problems. And it just has a bad fanbase even by vidya and FF standards. It reminds me of Star Wars or the Matrix movies with how off the rails it went.

It's weird for me to say that though, because it is my favorite of the bunch.

All sport games are overrated. Madden and 2K being two of them.

Also, I don't see why people are excited about 2K having the NFL and PGA Tour licenses for games, when they will just monetize them to no end.

Same with EA and NBA. Ultimate Team nonsense.

Or why they're so eager to play the same damn game all over again each and every year.

I never understood this, even if you like sports there's got to come a time in which you're just.... bored playing fundamentally the same exact game year after year and at least take a break for a year or two and wait for a more substantial update, but nope, they're perfectly happy to buy it every year.

My best guess is it includes "updated rosters" to remain as topical as possible, but yeah, they're total suckers regardless.

But why is "updated rosters" worth 60 dollars? They never stop and say "ya know, I think I'm gonna spend that hard earned 60$ on a different game and just play last year's Madden for another year"

I hate to say this because it makes me seem like such a nerd, but the evidence piles up when you think about it and I can't help but assume that there's not a lot of brain activity going on in the average sports fan's head.
