But why is "updated rosters" worth 60 dollars? They never stop and say "ya know, I think I'm gonna spend that hard earned 60$ on a different game and just play last year's Madden for another year"

I hate to say this because it makes me seem like such a nerd, but the evidence piles up when you think about it and I can't help but assume that there's not a lot of brain activity going on in the average sports fan's head.

It sounds cliche to say it, but those people are the classic "casual gamer". They buy the new Madden or FIFA or NBA2K and 1 or 2 FPS games, then they play those games (and only those games) for the entire year. I work with a lot of guys like that; it's like something they do with friends after work on XBL or PSN.

So basically, they buy the new one because they play with other people, and they all bought the new one. And they play it for like 500 hours, so it's hardly like it's the worst $60 to spend.

Thanks. You've literally cleared up why my two least favorite genres in gaming are Sports games and FPS games.
Really. This puts it all in perspective.

I just can't imagine not getting bored playing only a handful of games for an entire year.

I hate to be the guy, but... Why don't they just gather their friends or join a club to play the game irl?
I play sports with my friends regularly and then go back to my murder simulators, silently thinking that what I'm murdering is my boss or my neighbors.
People who play sports games on PC or consoles always turn out wrong in the head.

They're mostly guys in their 30's. They have wives/girlfriends and kids, so their schedules are limited, and a lot of them don't live anywhere near each other, so getting together is difficult except on the weekend. They wind up having their "hanging out with friends" time in chat while playing games after dinner for an hour or two before getting the kids ready for bed.

Is too late to add in Earthbound?

I heard so much dick sucking for it on so many channels that made me want to try it. I did like its aesthetic, but the actual gameplay is so choppy and unfun, I think I had to quit by "3 city" or whatever. It's nowhere near as amazing as it's made out to be.

I think I made it to the fourth city, but I fucked up with my money and got stuck with two dead party members who I couldn't afford to resurrect.

I enjoyed the game until that point, though.

I gave Earthbound the old college try back in 2013 but I really struggled with a boss that you can only beat through a jokey method rather than playing it like it's a typical JRPG.

That killed my enthusiasm and I didn't get any farther.

Would still like to give the whole thing a playthrough someday just to say I did though.

What would be the most "casual" gamer?

The one that plays mobile games or the one that plays yearly sports games?

I literally cannot tell the difference between this year's X sports game and last year's X sports game. They're literally copy and paste in a "new" coat of paint.

Mobile games like Temple Run and Bejeweled are too with the multiple clones available on the app stores, but they're a dime a dozen.

Sports games however spend millions on advertising and licensing alone. All that money and with microtransactions, yet they deliver subpar products year after year. And people eat this up.

I'd say it's a close second between the two.

Are you referring to Master Belch?

MOBA as a genre are overrated considering it's a genre that apparently only get enjoyable after playing 200 hours.

Bioshock Infinite, more like Infinite Hype
  • Elizabeth was touted as this complex character, but is just an UwU Special Damsel that gives you supplies and has a character arc as deep as a puddle.
  • The gameplay is walking through (nicely designed) linear levels to kill dumb AI, with limited guns you have to keep dropping so you never benefit from upgrades and can never define your style, and crappy boring Plasmids that don't transform gameplay. A snoozefest.
  • The general themes are clumsily overdone and on the nose. Exploitative capitalism is bad? Covered in Bioshock 1/2 already, and better. Racism is....bad? Who would have guessed. Did you guys know that violent revolution can be nasty and Innocents get killed in them sometimes? Don't worry, the game will remind you at length.
  • The 'alternative universes' gimmick is just that, a cheap trick. Oooh, look the Budda is actually a Comstock statue now. Do you want to fight a ghost? Super easy, just bring one through a Tear. Wasted potential.
  • The ultimate thrust of the story is nihilism. Your choices don't matter, you can't change yourself, you can't change society, and all pathways are preordained. The only agency you have is suicide. Talk about a depressing overall arc.
In conclusion, Bioshock Infinite is a well polished but meaningless piece of nihilist propaganda that encourages you to kill yourself.

He makes most of the same arguments you do, and a bunch more, but in video form and with a charming Irish accent. Two minutes in he even says "nigger" regarding the "racism is bad" stuff that you pointed out, which is ballsy as fuck to do on YouTube.

Edit: Sorry for the double-post.
Let's be honest with ourselves. If you play a mobs, you're probably brain damaged.
Can we get a sadface reaction for when we feel personally attacked, please?

Because the updated roster has the popular athlete(s) of the year. it's basically a trenders game.
I had a coworker who got NBA2k19 just because some nog ball bouncer that was popular at the time.

The majority of roguelikes. Tedious. Also Rainbow Six Siege, fucking bullshit how the series went from being an actual tactical shooter to a goddamn thinly veiled hero shooter and will likely stay that way forever because somehow Siege is still super successful.

R6S is basically software bloat in game form. It's always been about adding marketable features like flashy hero abilities and "special events" like a stupid zombie mode while allowing poor map design, game breaking bugs, and terrible matchmaking to fester for years.

I dunno how much has changed since it's been 2 years since I played the game, but the shit was a mess back then. Some dumbass thought it would be good to have literal wallhaxx at the press of a button in a game that's all about information. The worst part was when people thought "stop moving" was a viable counter. I can only conclude that the guys in charge of steering that ship are either incompetent or are deliberately breaking the game, or some combination of the two.
