Most overrated games.

I don't like these threads because it's often either "it's good but not THAT good" or someone says something that is popular to claim is overrated.

...Morrowind. It's a fun relic but there's a reason it's not relevant any longer. Kinda torn on Skyrim, I think it's pretty inferior to a lot of other open world games (even at the time) but I did sink a lot of time into it so maybe I am missing something.

Also pretty much any old collect-a-thon game. They're fun but they have not aged well. Worse than many contemporary genres aged.

Donkey Kong Country, simply because Donkey Kong '94 on the Game Boy was a far better game, and it didn't get any advertising or promotion that Donkey Kong Country did.

Donkey Kong Country is definitely overrated, it's a solid platformer but the reason people went so nuts for it was the graphics.

FFVII. Play Legend of Dragoon.

I used to know an SJW guy online that would have shit a solid brick if he saw you say that, the dude REALLY hated Legend of Dragoon.

FTFY.

For me, I'd say it was the music more than anything. Don't really care what you think is the best DKC, nothing tops the original game's K. Rool theme.

Oh yeah, the soundtrack is phenomenal, I especially love the underwater theme.

It's a great game, it's just more about the audio/visual experience than purely the gameplay, which is solid but not revolutionary.

Ocarina of Time. Everyone and their grandma sucks it off. It's fun don't get me wrong but the characters are some ugly bastards. Gerudo valley more like Jewrudo valley. I played it for N64 as a kid and had a blast, got it for 3DS in highschool and eh it felt like a chore.

Smash is overrated too, i loved it since N64-brawl but the whole fgc aspect is fucking cringe since really it's just a teenagers party game. Playing with try hard friends/people turned me off from it too because final fucking destination every single god damn match and now all stages have a final destination mode. Just leave me alone FD.

God of War
Idk i found Kratos to be pretty annoying, he spergs out at anything moving but now he's just a boring dad with an annoying kid. I liked that he wanted revenge for his loss in the first 3 games but after awhile it was just edgelord tier button mashing with little mix ups involved. People for some reason say it's one of the best games ever but i disagree, for that genre its alright, better than DMC2 sure.

Persona/SMT
Now, i personally really like these game series but i can't explain how pretentious people are because of them. EVERYONE becomes Socrates and Plato playing one of these games. It's 2deep4you plebs. Persona became weeb tier after 2 and SMT is for angsty fat neckbeards who hate muh religion and think they're smarter than they actually are.

I agree with ya on that one. It's likely the same people who Don't think that the way they censored hitler was the best kind of censorship that made him better.

His smug face now with added sunglasses make it look like he trying to be hip, and comes off as a great laugh.

I missed the start of this thread but I'm still gonna reply to the early posts, so a lot of what I'm gonna say will probably have already been said.
GTA V. All the hype surrounding it and it disappointed after GTA Online. Especially since single player DLC was omitted for online. Particularly, GTA Online is overrated with it's pay to win microtransactions and long loading times.
I played it on the PS3, I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected. The map is big, sure, but it's also empty, driving for 10 minutes from one side of the map to the other to play some golf just got tiresome. I massively prefer Yakuza in that regard, the map is a lot smaller, but it's dense; you're never further than a minute's run from a minigame.
FF7. Overrated as hell if you've played most of the others. (FF4, FF6, FF9 I thought were better)
Absolutely agree. FF5, 6, 10 and 12 were more enjoyable to me (although I never finished 5 or 6 because I took a break and when I came back I had no idea what I supposed to do next).
Stardew Valley. The gameplay is not that awful but all the characters are pretentious little shits.
Penny is a pure and innocent character, dude. She just wants to get away from her alcoholic mother and help teach kids.
League of Legends. Why anyone would enjoy wasting 20 minutes to an hour doing almost the exact same role on the exact same map over and over again is beyond me.
That's why Dota is the superior choice! You can play anything in any role and enjoy the full Dota experience of being flamed all game!
From my experience Zelda nerds hail Wind Waker as the GOAT now.
I ain't a Zelda nerd, but it's the first Zelda game I could tolerate playing, since it had the right stick for camera controls. It made it so much easier to control than OoT/MM.
also BIT.TRIP RUNNER is the most boring game of its series and didn't deserve two sequels
BIT.TRIP RUNNER was amazing, you pillock. The sequel sucked though.

Dunno if you like metal, but I've never played the game and I fucking love that remix.

I can respect that. I still thought the sailing was boring as fuck though.
The HD version on the Wii U (which is what I played) made it less tedious with the fast sail you can win in the auction, but you're right, even with the fast sail there was far too much time spent sailing around.

Zelda fanboys tell me I'm crazy whenever I say it because apparently finding tiny little islands is like a masterclass in exploration gameplay. Maybe I am crazy, but I just found the whole thing repetitive and boring.

Maybe Wind Waker just came out at a time where my tastes changed though. I didn't hate Twilight Princess but I've only ever played it once, didn't even play Skyward Sword cause it looked boring. I liked Breath of the Wild but I've also heard a lot of people complain that it is a "bad Zelda" so *shrug*

They're just trying to force their love of the game onto you, just tell them to go fuck themselves because you like what you like and they have no say in that.

The amount of Shrines and Seeds were a bit much, they could have cut the Shrines down by about half and had real Dungeons for the beasts.

I must be in the minority, because dungeons were always my least favorite parts of Zelda games. I know that's insane, but it's why before BOTW, Majora's Mask was my favorite game of the series. There was so much more to do past just dungeons.

And honestly, I think the reason they are my least favorite is simply because I don't enjoy puzzles. I can do them, and in BOTW, they are quick and spread out enough to not get annoying, but the battle shrines were always my favorite ones, by far.
And yeah, the Divine Beasts were also my least favorite parts of BOTW, for the same reasons.

I actually had an unfortunate talk with some 'gamer girl' who worked at a shop once, and she drove me crazy. "My life is busy enough for games, I don't need fluff in Zelda games, just get to the dungeons" (She didn't like BOTW because the dungeons weren't out in the open right away); a textbook "I only play for the dungeons" player, and she annoyed the ever loving hell out of me.
