It felt like Boon and NRS put a lot of effort into making it decent (despite the fuck awful meta). It's the first game to have decent voice acting instead of Boon and some hooker yelling out random noises and Spanglish. Let's be honest: Even with UMK3 and Deception, MK was never taken seriously in the fgc, and 9 is responsible to growing the MK playerbase. With that said, fuck Freddy Kruger and the fact the PS Vita version had more costumes the console versions never got.
I'll agree they tried to make it work, but ended up fucking up MK more than Armageddon ever did. I liked the idea of rewriting the MK trilogy... and then they kill Liu Kang fucking again.

It at least didn't uglify all the women yet and didn't start the super busy Ninja suits that would come later.

I just want my nigga Bi-Han to get his time to shine before being gaped and raped into a shadowman jobber after 5 minutes of screentime. Noob Saibot isn't even fucking cool anymore. He has zero victories.

Let the og Sub Zero BE Sub Zero for more than one game, Boon.

I loved Noob Saibot until they turned him into a tag team with himself.

motherfucker you just didnt tell that to us who have been playin mk2 every friday at the arcade since 93. the "fgc" are a bunch of faggot and trannies
MK2 was awesome, but UMK3 got more attention and activity (even though MK2 beats MK3 on so many things). I was one of those kids who wanted to play MK2 when I saw it at malls.

At least MK9 didn't have gay hipster ninjas like Woke Kombat 1 Reptile.

I'm down for this too, if we can have Kuai Liang be Tundra and not the awful Kuai-Scorp.

Outside they've always (and should) shared the Iceball and Slide, I wonder what frequent special moves they'd divvy up for the two.

The MKDA Ice Shaker move Kuai had was a special of his in the MK3 beta and used by Cyber Sub, so he can have it since the Ice Clone went to Bi-Han in the N64 version of MK3 (IE Classic Sub), Mythologies, and 1(2)... Dive Kick's been used by Cyber Sub but also Bi-Han in 1(2), Bi-Han can keep it... but let Kuai keep the MK3 Ice Shower or some anti-air move. Ice Puddle's been used by both but I can see it more for Kuai if I must choose.

I could see it vaguely turning out that Bi-Han's more aggressive with the Dive Kick and Ice Clone's potential in-your-face trapping, while Kuai with the Ice Shaker, Puddle, and Shower (Puddle over Shower, or he's too good at defense) is more tilted to the defensive and set-ups. Which obviously jells with their personalities.

Also make him truly neutral again instead of cartoonishly evil. MK1 fucking butchered him, turning him into a giant Douchebag asshole with daddy issues.

He's so unfathomably unlikable with zero subtlety, I'm surprised Smoke and Kuai Liang hasn't punched his face in until he can breathe through the back of his head.

Hey so...

Every time I look up reviews of the Legacy Kollection, they're mixed but they mostly focus on shit like online matchmaking or bonus features, and it makes it hard to find the info I actually care about.

What I want to know is: how well do the games actually play, assuming I'm playing offline, by myself? Do they play as well as in MAME?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Also how much worse is the Switch version compared to Steam?

Based on my experience, they do. I've read of controller lag, but I don't notice it, maybe because my reflexes are old and slow, lol. They did just update it, so now you can customize the CPU difficulty beyond what the original arcade games allowed. Now you can avoid some of the input reading and general cheapness these games were known for. Or you can just play them like the originals. Now if they can do something about the screen filters (the ones on offer, none, or 2 variants of "TV", which doesn't look like a real CRT monitor) I'll be golden wih this kollection.

I honestly thing lag fags that won't shut up about it never faced the cpu on the Arcade versions where it cheaply is able to take priority over your moves with theirs.
Yeah, I haven't touched an MK arcade cabinet since the 90s, but they all play fine to me. If you watch the documentaries on this set, especially the long one for MK3, you get a clue as to why they made the CPU the way they did when they introduce you to the game testers. This was probably the only way they could figure to do it so the CPU could keep up with those guys, lol.

I went ahead and bought it, and so far I'm happy with it.

In fact, it has a feature I wish more fighting games in general had: on-screen move input displays, so you don't have to pause and look up a move list any time you want to try something.

Even better, the move display actually updates to account for whether your character is facing left or right! Again, such a great feature, and yet Mortal Kombat is the only one that does it?

The only thing that didn't quite work was the input indicating you're supposed to hold a button down. Just at a read I didn't understand what it was trying to convey, and wound up having to look the move in question up. Still, not that big a deal.

Also hope this leads to some re-evaluation of the Gameboy version of MK1. It's by no means a good port, but I do always feel its treated unfairly--first, nobody acknowledges it being the only version where you can play as Goro. Second, a lot of criticism of GB MK1 is that the moves don't work... but invariably said critics are trying the move inputs from the console versions, but the GB one uses different inputs. That always annoyed me. It's like watching someone try to start a car by putting a coin in the keyhole, then saying the car is broken when that doesn't work.

I hate being a fan of this series. Feels like it's constantly coming out of the oven half-baked and every other fan looks at you weird because you don't want to eat a doughy cake.

That said, when and if they do the next MK, it'd save some time and budget to just build on Mortal Kombat 1. They've remade everything from scratch each game since MKvDC which is absolutely eating into development. Take the MvC to MvC2 approach and just take what you have, gut what people were unhappy with and expand on what people were happy with.

The game is solid, but it's just sloppy. Soul is there, but so is bad management and bad priorities. Again, a doughy cake.

On a similar note, hope all of the retarded middle management at WB who had a hand in the MK1 mess had an awful Christmas and fail miserably in 2026. Fuck you, kikes.

I know I shouldn't be surprised. Mortal Kombat is a Western fighting game series, after all. The first fighting game series proud of de-sexualizing females and fully embraced tranny propaganda. Seeing the Mortal Kombat fandom dominated by wannabe breadtubers like TheReXerShow, who cry about Gamergate and people not eating up woke slop, is kind of depressing. Especially if you grew up with Mortal Kombat in the 90s and 2000s. The series was the poster child for being edgy and counterculture. Yes they downplay Joe Liberman being a democrat.
