"Oh wow, these guided tours with time to catch materials and shit are cool!"
>6 of them every hour
>really get to notice the blurry-yet-sharp low-fps vast planes of "Worlds looked better than this"

I told myself I'd 100% only hunting horn this run but it's just way too complicated for what it does. Tens of seconds to set up a song that boosts damage by 20% that you already lost out on by trying to play the damn song. I only like MH for the coop'ness yet now I just find myself using the NPCs instead of playing with other people. I spent 18 minutes underground at 30 fps only for the game to crash, and at that point I was so close to uninstalling not out of rage but of respect towards myself. I could've.. played fucking bloons and felt more accomplished.

Alas, I own the game and will also do so when it's somewhat decent in 2 years. :)

Nah, it's absolutely better than world. World had a lot of unskippables and time-padded "find x amount of tracks" sections to stretch progress time to next hunt. Not that the walk along is great, but they last at worst maybe 2 minutes.
I'm saying this as someone who played World both at launch and on PC with the cutscene skip mod I fucking hate all MH story cutscenes, cutscenes with cool monsters only please, but there's no way you can say that walk-n-talks are better than those tracking segments in World. That's insane. Even if you see the tracking segments as padding, control of the game isn't being taken from the player and you're free to do them at your own pace. On my second playthrough it didn't even bother me as it gave me some extra chances at more honey/mining points. Hell, sometimes I'd just go fishing just because. And when I didn't want to deal with these parts it's just follow some scoutflies for 45-60 seconds. Contrast this with the ever-popular walk-n-talks, you essentially have to sit through a low-budget cutscene and for some reason they didn't even give you the option to skip them. You are stuck in them for however long they last, and usually with no input on the player's part, and made worse being in a game known and loved for its focus on gameplay. Seriously, try to convince me that they're not just a cost-cutting measure and can be done well. I might actually have an example of this, but there's a catch.

Re: pop-up tents
If you think you can park your ass in a tent and go to the bathroom, don't be surprised if a Congalala decides to crush the tent with you in it, lol. The game is NOT paused in there.

They do tell you this when you start using them with a high danger/safe rating system.

I think the idea of non-static camps is pretty cool because in some places you feel cozy in camps and in other cases there are just invisible barriers stopping monsters from rampaging through your shit there.

The story just evolves into World at the end. With the "EGG" and everything. Nata is a little bitch too. I'm still wearing shit gear. Also, fuck them going into the "Ancient Civ." it just dispels any special intrigue in it if they just vomit all the mystery shot out. The Ancient Civ. has always been in the background with vague subtle theories to what caused it to fall, and it should stay that way. The more they talk about it the more I fucking hate it.
I really like the concept of the zone, I love alien environments with fucked up ecology but in practice, it feels like a massive cop out. The Guardians just being regular monsters but covered in white purple shit with explosions aftershocks doesn't make them feel anywhere near the lore revelation the game tries to come across as. Arkveld only feels fresh because you fight him as a Guardian first, he's still just a preexisting species, just resurrected.

The Final Boss is the most unique one but they half assed it by making it a Fatalis clone (Like literally, it has the red lightning of White Fatalis, the meteors of Red and the good ol fireballs and breath). When I was fighting it, I was expecting it to change it's limbs and head between different modes and elements, but instead it did nothing but shit out fire, alongside a single red lightning move. The fucking thing doesn't even have armor or a rematch, so I don't even have cool armor or weapons to somewhat mitigate the bad taste.

Arkveld is probably the consolation prize though, he's a really fun fight and his armor and weapons look fantastic. Flayer is an absurd skill with how exploitable wounds already are.

Yeah, there are areas in each zone that are 100 percent safe from monsters, while other areas aren't. I'm enjoying the popup camp system honestly.

I just finished the main story/LR last night. I liked what I played but there's definitely some parts to criticize. Story was fucking awful and I'm not at all surprised to see reddit retards defending it. Any cut scene that isn't showing off a monster should be immediately skipped, I learned this the hard way.

Imo the worst parts of the game so far have the been the story and boring ass trailing sections. A lot of people say difficulty is a big problem for LR but I just used the base Chatacabra set and a lower rarity charge blade to give myself more of a challenge. best parts have been the combat, weather shifts, and new monster designs. Capcom 100% cooked in the new monster department and idgaf what anyone says. The cephalopod love alone has easily made this a 10/10 base monster roster for me, Xu Wu and Nu Udra are so fucking badass. This is the first time I legit can't think of one new monster they've added that is just completely forgettable trash. If they add Narkarkos I honestly doubt they could ever top this roster.

I'm running 2 characters at the same time. On one, I watch all the cutscenes and take my time. On the other, I help my friends hunt and skip all the cutscenes and dialogue I've seen already. All this to say; If you skip all dialogue and cutscenes, the game moves very fast. If you really despise the story skip it. I caught up to my 8 hour no skip character in less than 2 hours on Mr. Skip.

I'm really taking my time with this game, as I rushed through World and Rise. The beginning is low rank, and who actually had trouble with Anjanath and Tobi Kadachi in World? Brand new players, and that's it. It sounds like we are all at least 1 game veterans, so we breeze through the elongated beginning.

I actually like the story, it is lighthearted and aloof, but it makes me appreciate the characters more. Alma is the best handler so far, mild compared to World's weirdo. The native people are not condescending, as I had feared, they are just chill and happy to learn from the Hunters. I appreciate the well handled sharing of technology and ideas between the cultures, it does not come off as "the natives are actually smarter and more wise than stupid industrial whitey." I enjoy the action set-pieces that introduce monsters, it makes the fights feel more dramatic. This is all with the expectation that the late and end game will be systematic grinding of more difficult monsters, so I don't mind a unique story to elevate and introduce fights.

Performance has been fine for me, I am lucky enough to have a 4070 which can use AI upscaling and Framegen to give me 100+ FPS with no input delays. Just luck, but it hasn't affected me.

TLDR: I was in the mood for a laid back story with slower pacing, and I estimate the end game will be the same grindy Monster Hunter that I love. I'm along for the ride. I recommend skipping cutscenes and dialogue to cut the elongated beginning down to 1/4 the time if you just want to fight Monsters.

Bonus: Check out the Doomslayer I made:

saw the optimization for wilds, what the fuck happened to RE engine?
capcom used to be on top of this shit with games like RE7 and DMC V. even SF 6 runs pretty ok but for some reason this and Dragons Dogma run like ass.

It was an engine designed for linear single player games and not open world and they clearly could never manage to get it to do what they wanted regarding open world.

On top of that it was found that layering their in house DRM on top of Denuvo has been disastrous for performance.

A guy forgot to turn off his nude mods at a Street Fighter tournament and Capcom completely lost their minds.

Now Every Capcom game has multiple different layers of DRM causing horrific performance issues.

I never agreed with this sentiment. Having to deliberately nerf yourself to find a challenge is just giving carte blanche to devs to implement Games Journalist difficulty by default.
Honestly, fair. I just like challenging myself since I'm not a fan of....Well, actually many of the "QoL" MH has added after the first game... Like buying ammo or potions, I still stubbornly craft everything I need on the field. I appreciate the faster gathering because of this. I just like that aspect of self sufficiency. Only time I break that rule is trap tools and barrels. That's just me, though. If i cared about modding I'd make it a mod just out of spite for the amount of "adds everything to the store for 1 zenny" mods exist lmao.

Unrelated, but I beat the story and gone into HR over the weekend and I actually think the story is.... Decent this time.
A lot of the hatred over the brownie tribes was surface level, and I really liked the deeper lore later about the wyvarians and ancient civilizations using monsters as bio weapons (they dipped their toes into this a bit too during Wings of Ruin 2), really harkens back to the old MH lore scrapbook of the Equal Dragon and I hope to see more of that.
The actual characters and the like though were meh, it's a mixed bag but I think the greater world of Monster Hunter should be the main focus rather than individuals in it.

Post-credits finally feels like the game should've from the start. I'm finally free to fuck off and hunt, except for the continued annoyance of Alma, who is somehow more retarded and unlikable than Handler, telling me the guild doesn't approve of my hunting of HR rey dau.

I don't see a reason to rush this game so I don't get the complaints. You can ignore main quests and run around in the zones as you unlock them. I was doing the Alpha Doshaguma when Rey Dau showed up...so I stopped hunting the quest mob and bagged me a Rey Dau while severing the Tail. I chased the bugger across the planes through the Electric Sandstorm and found his home. Quite an awesome experience.

Nah, the tracking stuff was always worse. You could do it on your own time, but it was a case of you game the system resetting lobbies/expiditions to do it faster regenerating maps, or you let RNG decide your pace. As I said the walk and talks are not great, but it's a one and done band-aid being ripped off in a shorter amount of time. You could call it down to preference but the tracking sections were where I had to do a lot of convincing people to keep playing. You could probably argue the same for the walk alongs, but again returning to preference. I'd rather it get over with quickly, and they are VERY quick relatively. World also had walk-along sections in the story missions (not as many, granted but they still existed), as well. I absolutely consider Wilds to be better over World when it comes to the ability to speed through the story which is what most people who late purchase do to join friends in the later content.

I would've loved if the Guardians were more along the lines of fucked up Chimeras, Zoh Shia was SO close and then it clicks and you realize it's just more Fatalis wanking.
For all the games faults the monster design is probably my favorite by far of all the games.
I think they didn't miss at all with any of the new designs, it really makes the old monsters feel outdated in comparison.

So, I'm working through HR in basic low rank gear still. But I did notice while crafting armor for transmog that there is literally 0 difference visually between low & high rank and alpha & beta sets. I knew this was going to happen. I swear I voiced this worry before when they announced you can cross-dress.

Are you able to post some comparisons/examples, I curious to see how deep that goes.
