I don't know, I think the monsters shown off so far are probably some of the worst in the series.
I think I liked most of World's new monsters when I first saw them. All these are very muted colors and desaturated. I'd say some of them will be memorable to me but I don't think they will win any popularity polls in the future once the game is out for a while and the honeymoon phase for a lot of people starts to drift away.
Most of them don't look like Monster Hunter Monsters, I think they are leaning WAY too much into the realism which is diluting the older art style.

Look, I'm speaking relative to the rest of the trash they've shown off for wilds, of which only 2 are even ok. At least wilds is using more than 3 skeletons as well.

I get it, at least the flagship, Arkveld, looks decent so does Rey Dau. I too am happy to see other types of monsters, but unfortunately most aren't remarkable at all.
If anything it gives hope to returning monsters.

Rey Dau and Lala Brina give this game all the feels for Monster Hunting. White Wraith feels weak to look at but I have a feeling it's not the 'big bad' of the game
There being a "bigger bad" has been a thing for a while in the series. It's filling the same spot that Nergigante was in World, Magnamalo was in Rise, Gore Magala in 4, so on.
It just sucks they keep revealing 80+% of the new roster every new title.

They've shown like 6 or 7. I don't think I've seen a single elder dragon.

I don't think the revealed any elder dragons before outside of if they are a flagship. I know Nergigante was and ZorahM. because it was plot relevant, but most of Elders in base World were returning, and Z.Jiva being the big bad there after. I guess that leaves Vaal Hazak who was a surprise new one.

I dont care about some pajeet with two moms being mad at a monster killing his hole village. I just want to fucking hunt monsters in peace.
My summary as well. I really hope I can skip the bloody cutscenes since something tells me I'll get tired of them sooner rather than later... one of the reasons I also enjoyed Rise so much compared to world was how quick it all got going, but this one seems to lean hard on that "movie game" to impress the normies...

Best batch of monsters wilds has showed off so far, but they spent more time showing off the story, and that aspect looks so fucking bad. Worse than literally no story at all. Voice acting can at least be switched to japanese, but fuck me, this sounds worse than the worst of world's and rise's voice acting combined. Whoever decided to give palicos voice acting deserves public execution.
I played rise w/ the Japanese voices w/o second thought given the theming (something which I preferred over world if only because it gave the developers an excuse to avoid adding mystery meat NPCs) but I remember trying world in English and being stunned at how bad the voice acting was - FUNimation tier anime dub, maybe even worse at times.

Regarding rise, I liked the switch skills (granted they weren’t as impactful as the styles in MHGU) and the wire bug map mobility but it definitely feels like the monsters weren’t adapted enough to account for the increased player power (sans the bloated hp values for the anomaly hunts, but everyone can agree that wasn’t a good solution to the issue). Granted when the weapons are so imbalanced, one can’t easily adjust monster difficulty (I.e., if you made it a challenge for the long sword/the long range weapons you’d end up making it a brutal experience for the weaker weapons like the so-neglected lance.) I hope in Wilds they do a better job at balancing the weapons, with LS in particular needing to be nerfed so it isn’t the de facto journalist-difficulty mode (at least the ranged weapons are squishier, so that even with the bow you have to pay a modicum of attention in order not to die). However based on the vids coming out (
it seems that that’s not gonna happen (given the popularity of the LS it’s not surprising that they don’t want to nerf it, but as a game designer you have to be willing to ruffle some feathers to preserve the quality of a game.) The only reason unpopular weapons like gun lance have gotten buffed is because big YouTubers have rallied behind them - unlike lance, meaning I expect it to remain neglected once more.

Also while I don’t particularly care about removing gender-locked armor in and of itself, it’s a shame that it enables the subversive members of the MH community and is a portent of more bad shit to come. MH has a substantive undercurrent of this for some reason (e.g., faggots like jocat and superRAD) alongside a dipolar issue of hug-boxing and meta-slaving/speedtranny parsing.

Regardless, I plan on getting the game on release given that there’s nothing else that’s coming out and I need something to play. Otherwise, I’d wait for a sale (which Capcom has been pretty good with for MH in the past on steam) - which is what I’d recommend for those who are in no particular rush to play the game.

I wonder if they'll do that "drunken Japanese" hunter language. Also I have a bad feeling that all new MH games will have the story shoved down your throat. Not sure how I feel about the new monsters, the big ass fish Uth Duna looks neat but not so much the flaming chicken Quematrice, least in my opinion. Rey Deu though, I really like his design, Arkveld is alright too. I'm also interested in what returning monsters there will be. I know it'll probably be all the Rath subspecies again but that was already a given. Probably some from Rise since it's the newest entry.

It's a staple for MH to show off a Monster as the "big bad" only to throw another bigger bad after you beat the original. Like Lagiacrus to Ceadeus.

"Too bad CHUD, you HAVE to sit through our lovingly made story like a good *insert pronouns here*!" I remember hearing how upset some of the people were at Capcom that people asked to skip cutscenes and just didn't give a fuck about their story in World so expect that to never happen, in fact expect them to double down. I still think Rise is dogshit but yeah it didn't force the story down your throat as much.

At the risk of sounding even more like an asshole, day 1 is retarded consumer behavior, is there really nothing else to play for you? Why on Earth would anyone other than blind normie conoooomers buy anything day 1 in this current era?

back then it was the rage over the clumsy food terminating handler

now it will be racist jokes

well find a way to go through it

happy for a new game
seem to play no other games anymore
too much of a time waste solo

Never finished my baldurs gate run too

@Tri-TachyonRepresentative normally I’m not one to do it (for example, I remember laughing at my friend who bought bf2042 on release after seeing what an absolute shitshow it was - also as a younger man I remember being burned harshly buying Halo 4 near release) but I’m confident that at worst wild will be OK and I also want to hunt w/ some buddies who are going to be getting it day 1. I do understand that buying day 1 (and especially pre-ordering) are bad consumer behaviors for the overall health of the vidja industry, but like many vices one cannot be castigated too harshly for doing it every now and then. Also, there really are no other games worth playing right now (the absolute state of vidja), I’ve just been playing random stuff in my backlog.

Also would be fun to poll what weapons people on the farms main - I’ve played a variety but generally main CB (despite its reputation of being le complex big brain weapon I don’t find it to be any more complex than say great horn or swaxe.)

Got to agree with this. If you love what you see, then go nuts and get that day 1 purchase, but if you are apathetic to it, you must have something in your backlog worth giving a chance

yeah I just picked up both World and Rise with both expacs for 30 total. Beat the OGs before worrying about the new one.

If you have a dedicated group of friends I can see the day 1 appeal more but...

Like this fine gentleman, I got Risebreak with everything relevant for a very nice discount and didn't have to wait for content to be also dripped at me. For the most part I play Monster Hunter like a single player game and sometimes play with randoms to spice things up.

I'm not in a particular hurry to play a new monster hunter having risebreak so "recent" and I already know the business model for MH, rather get it when it has everything in a single package.

In a similar situation with Re Fantazio where I know Atlus will released the refagged version, so rather wait for that since my backlog can hold me off without issue in the meantime.

God damn double ouch. I played the Halo collection for a while now but I never did install Halo 4, even for the multiplayer. Mostly because I'm a Reachfag trying to relive my glory days. Sad what happened to 2042 given how good BF1 was. Then again, BFV.
but I’m confident that at worst wild will be OK and I also want to hunt w/ some buddies who are going to be getting it day 1.
Mmm, having friends makes everything better. Especially the bad things.
but like many vices one cannot be castigated too harshly for doing it every now and then.
Some things this is true. Looking at the shit state of the industry but continuing to entertain the thought of day 1 purchases is not that. Especially considering you can wait the literal day or two. This is not some addiction to a drug, this is vidya, you can wait easily for your next "hit."
Also, there really are no other games worth playing right now (the absolute state of vidja), I’ve just been playing random stuff in my backlog.
This really does annoy me, it shouldn't since it's not that serious and I'm not the arbiter of what people should do despite what I say, but every time I see someone say something like this I can't help but think they're just some AAA game consoomer that can't stand playing older, better games. Either that or they have such specific tastes that when they do buy and play a game it's pretty much the only game they can enjoy until they find the next 1 in a million game to satisfy them, in which case :feels:. Seriously, there's so many games out there in the past decade that are worth playing until MHWilds is confirmed to be at least decent after...what, 1-2 days? Spend $5 of that...fuck me $69.99? God damn hate the new price standard they're trying to push, sucks harder for places that have to pay more via tax or poor regional pricing. Anyway, spend $5 on a month of Mullvad VPN or some shit, pirate enough games to last a year, get some emulators and shit, literally anything is better than $69.99 on a day 1 game from Crapcom and their "DRM+" bullshit. Sorry if I'm coming across as harsh but this shit grinds my gears. I think it's just any resemblance to normie behavior just kills me.
lso would be fun to poll what weapons people on the farms main - I’ve played a variety but generally main CB (despite its reputation of being le complex big brain weapon I don’t find it to be any more complex than say great horn or swaxe.)
Hunting Horn, easily. Unless they fucking ruin it in which case HBG.

When I do finally decide to go into Wilds, I think I'll give bow a shot as the main. In 4 Ultimate I used Charge Blade. In world I was Greatsword for the most part while dabbling with others here and there. And in Risebreak I played both lances, hammer and Kinsekt Glaive with the last one being my most favored by the end.

I should try setting up Generations Ultimate on the deck again as well... though I did get tired of 4 Ultimate after failing like 20 times to get a fucking Zinogre gem, so not sure if "old style" monhun will grab me that hard... And I do hate paintballs, but I've never fought a Glavenus and the megazord final boss seems like a hoot.

fucking Zinogre gem
At that point I would dump my save into the save editor and just add it. Gem (in this case Jasper) drop rates are autistic. Least you usually only need one for each of whatever requires it. I'll never forget the reaction my friend had when he had spent nearly a week trying to get...I forget which monster's rarest item (might have been a Shagaru's Phosgem) and I got it twice in 4 tries.
