I remember seeing the initial roster of monsters for Rise and just went "meh." Also bring back subspecies for fucks sake. Side tangent, but anyone else felt like Rise was made to bring more newcomers to Monster Hunter, despite the popularity of MH on Nintendo consoles already not to mention the absolutely massive success of World on all supporting platforms?

Which game actually has more streamers or so called content creators or influencers going for new FoTM game for streaming? Which game has the cinematic and graphic immersion? Which game is it that has your "Oh it's basically Dark Souls, but focus on boss only'? Which game is it that has highest sale ever? Well, at least with the last point World is also cheaper than Rise even when it isn't on sale.
World isn't available on Nintendo. World success beside its solid gameplay, it has a lot of good advertising through word of mouth. It's the same thing with the Witcher 3. Nobody really cares about the Witcher series before 3 anyway.
MonHun itself is almost Western CoD annually release before World. Imagine you have to buy the game again to experience everything, old and new contents. I don't wanna get into console wars and whatever Capcom marketing brain strategy. Or whatever the hell with Japanese companies deciding on which platform was more profitable at that time.
Around 4 is where whatever Capcom decides main line game being exclusive Nintendo, meanwhile they were also chasing pseudo autism MMO with Frontier on Playstation.
Rise vs World slap fight isn't just typical hurdur which game is better. It's also slapfight to shit on "Haha tendies" vs "Soynies". That's out of the way.
Velkana fight is basically the "same" on Rise, but since Rise has much further camera zooming comparing to World, handheld device vs your TV screen distance. You may feel fight is less annoying since you can see ground AOE much better.
The clutchclaw, before at the end of game update, tenderizing duration only last for 90 seconds. So you have somewhat short amount of time to do as much damage as you can. At the end of game update, after MonHun live action movie, tenderizing duration is buffed to 3 minutes in total. In general, it's pretty good.
But that is only good for anyone who have been playing and unlock both Rocksteady and Temporal mantle. Their guarantee chance of tenderizing is 100%, it doesn't really matter if they take some damage, they can heal themselves later on. For anybody who is like new or rushing through base game with guardian armour, they definitely don't have high enough Hunter Rank to unlock both Temporal and Rocksteady mantle after finishing the base game. The only way for them to guarantee tenderizing for them is to wall banging monsters. Basically you have to spend a bit more time to do tenderize before even to deal damage. However, if you miss the wallbang, you screw yourself even further because monsters are in enraged mode after any tenderizing or any time you 3 times slapping, changing direction and wall banging. No tenderizing means you are only able to deal like 80% of your potential damage to monster, which means longer hunt and more random possibilities of bad luck that annoys the hell out of you. Not to mention possibility of constant dealing damage between ranged and melee weapons. Enraged monsters are faster, more annoying and have more resistant to Flashbug, you can't knock flying monsters easily now.

World PC platform was released in 8 months after Playstation and Xbox. Rise on PC, you have to wait for like an entire year, Playstation and Xbox have to wait another year after PC release.
World has better multiplayer function with randoms people and you have way more newbies type only playing for multiplayer aspect, they don't even commit hunt alone by themselves. It's even more
amusing some still use guardian armor set after few master rank instead of actually bother crafting MR armors.
Rise has region restriction because Capcom being typical Japanese dumb dumb. You also have to deal with more limited search along with not having searching SOS function like World. Or big lobby with 16 people, I guess hardware limited.
