Really wish I had put cash on Strickland, the dude always comes out on top in situations like this
I actually place a 10 dollar bet just to get the free 150 from fan duel, I won 48 dollars from that fight and another 7 dollars on the volkov fight. With my free 150 I bet on the jap though, but overall I came out ahead. It was my fault for betting on manlets I know nothing about.

Some of Sean Strickland's past statements:
  • I'm not homophobic because phobia means 'fear' and fear is something specific to gays.
  • I want to be a serial k*ller but I don't want to go to prison.
  • After my MMA career is over, I'll go on a pilgrimage to India to bring soap.
  • We should kick women out of the workforce and send them back to where they belong, which is the kitchen.
  • I don't want to fight at the UFC White House event. To hang out with those types on this f*cking Epstein list? I'll pass, bro. That doesn't suit me, man.
  • Women need to go back to the kitchen. Since women entered the workforce, men have been earning less money.
  • If your girlfriend hangs out with guys, run away. It's time to release her back into the wild. There are 4 billion vag*nas in the world. Let her go find a friend without a d*ck.
  • Maybe our countries are in such sh*t because we once gave women the right to vote.
  • Homosexuality is a mental illness. Ten years ago, being trans was a mental illness. But now people like you are trying to normalize it in the world. You're an infection. You're the definition of weakness. Everything wrong in the world is because of people like you. Luckily, the world no longer gives a damn to people like you. People don't say 'Women can have d*cks too' anymore. People say 'No, there are two genders in the world, women and men.' That's what they say. F*ck you!
  • Therapy is the enemy of men. For example, let's say your wife was r*ped. What should be done is m*rder. But what does the system say? Call the police. The guy goes to prison for a few years. If you're sad, take pills, talk to a therapist. Violence is wrong. Therapy is anti-masculine.

The CTE allows Sean to tap into a flow state and spit generational bars, much like an antenna receiving messages from the beyond.

Acting like Strickland did anything other than be marginally better than Chimaev at the now standard tippy-tappy UFC striking after they both gassed hard in the second round of a 5 round fight.

He was just slightly less shite than Khamzat but they both fucking sucked in that fight.

While I’m happy for Sean, you can’t tell me most of us wouldn’t have had some choice words for him after he basically goes back to coasting on the feet in the late rounds instead of really putting it on him - if the judging had gone the other way - which it easily could have. I guess it comes with his style. Everything else was plenty impressive.
It's Xtreme Couture 101: polished fundamentals, but they'll never leave first gear (and that's the major critique). And to speak on the latter, how ass to you have to be to be pressed by a guy who constantly/consistently fights in first gear for a most, if not all of his fight?

People forget, though. If not for his shoulder, Sean could've totally finished Khamzat when Chimaev pulled guard in R2.

I understand Strickland's choice to stand and jab at range because planting his feet could give Khamzat the opportunity to dip the punch and dive at the legs. Could he picked up the pace later in the fight? Probably, and he could have made the fight even more in his favor with Khamzat being as tired as he was, but Khamzat could have had a second wind. I also understand his decision because Khamzat himself has a fair amount of power. Was it the best decision he could have made? I don't know, maybe from our perspective or entertainment wise it wasn't, but it was just good enough for him to scrape by a decision. So yeah, I'm torn on how to feel about Sean's performance. He is not beating Dricus fighting like that, though. That's for certain.

im rewatching the fight and seeing sean have top control over khamzat is still something i'd call you crazy if you told me this a year ago
Even with how random MMA is it always surprises me that there aren’t more people correctly predicting such a result. Reminds me of Sean vs Adesanya, the only person I remember calling how that would go because of the style difference was Caio Borralho.

Before Khamzat vs Strickland at least Makhachev said that he’d heard Sean can’t get held down easily, and that it could prove troublesome for Khamzat in later rounds if so, but even he didn’t say it’s what *will* happen.

Chimaev a pedo and kidnapper? You can't just drop that with no context lel. I thought he was married with a kid?

The UFC champ who sold his soul

Khamzat Chimaev’s story is no longer that of a fearless contender rising to greatness, but of a gifted fighter diminished into a warlord’s prized pet—a UFC champ who sold his soul to the strongman.

Less than 48 hours after seizing the UFC middleweight crown at UFC 319 in August 2025, Khamzat Chimaev touched down in Chechnya to a reception fit for a conquering hero. As he emerged from the plane in Grozny, crowds swarmed the fighter on the tarmac, chanting the name of the republic’s first UFC champion. But amid the celebration stood a figure whose presence carried far more weight than the adoring fans: Ramzan Kadyrov, the warlord who has governed Chechnya with an iron fist.

Moments after stepping off the plane, the new champion handed his UFC belt directly to Kadyrov, who raised it before cameras and reporters like a political trophy before passing it to his 17-year-old son, Adam. “He handed me the belt he won in battle, and with this gesture emphasized that his victory is a common victory of our people,” Kadyrov wrote on his Telegram channel.

Waiting nearby was a brand-new Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 in which Chimaev departed the airport under escort. The car costed upwards of $𝟏𝟖𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎—a reward fit for Kadyrov’s favourite fighter.

Over the past several years, the Chechen-born Chimaev has become the crown jewel of Kadyrov’s carefully cultivated MMA empire, regularly appearing in photographs alongside the strongman and his family. In return for his loyalty, Kadyrov has lavished the fighter with extravagant rewards: fleets of Mercedes luxury cars, an expansive villa in Grozny, and even arranged Chimaev’s marriage in 2022.

It was a remarkable trajectory for a fighter who was once just a poor refugee living in Sweden. In 2017, a month after his professional MMA debut, Chimaev was convicted of assault. He was charged after punching an employee in the face when he and his companion were accused of stealing a pair of headphones. Chimaev fled the scene but was later apprehended by the police. He was found guilty and received a suspended sentence with 50 hours of community service.

By 2020, however, Chimaev was a breakout star in the UFC. His quick knockout victories drew the attention of Kadyrov, who took him under his wing and elevated the fighter to his coveted inner circle. He also took charge of Chimaev’s career. When the UFC fighter attempted to retire after contracting Covid-19, Kadyrov insisted that he continue to compete. In 2022, Kadyrov filmed one of his sparring sessions with Chimaev. During the session, Chimaev allowed Kadyrov to take him down and pretended to tap out when the warlord choked him out.

“I myself could not resist the temptation to test my strength in a friendly duel with our dear brother,” Kadyrov said in the caption that accompanied the video.
Chimaev has also taken on the role of glorified babysitter to Kadyrov’s children. The UFC fighter trained Ali, one of Kadyrov’s sons, ahead of his professional debut in December 2022 and brought him along to training camps with some of the UFC’s top fighters in places like Dubai and Thailand. Ali and his brother Adam were in Chimaev’s corner at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi and again at UFC 308, also in Abu Dhabi.

While Chimaev’s subservience to Kadyrov and his family has elevated him to one of the most influential and recognizable figures in Chechnya, it also complicated his path to international stardom.

In 2024, I reported exclusively for Sports Politika that Chimaev was barred from entering the United States, primarily due to his relationship with Kadyrov, who’s long faced U.S. sanctions. In 2020, the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on Kadyrov’s fight club and MMA promotion — the first time a country had targeted his sports investments. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, OFAC stated that Kadyrov had “recruited for Russia’s war efforts through mixed martial arts clubs, enabling him and his units to continue their activity in Ukraine.” In response to the invasion, the State Department imposed visa restrictions on 910 Russians. While the list was never made public, sources close to the matter have suggested that Chimaev’s name was among those included.

Chimaev would have likely continued fighting in Abu Dhabi had Trump not won the 2024 presidential race. The U.S. President is a fan of the UFC, whose leadership and fighters helped him win back the White House. It comes as no surprise that Trump would put an end to Chimaev’s visa troubles as a favor to UFC CEO Dana White and Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel, his former agent.

In an interview with the BBC, the Chechen fighter credited Trump for his ability to return to the UFC. “Everyone knows I didn’t have the visa to [travel to] the US. That’s why I didn’t fight only once [but twice] in Abu Dhabi. So now Donald Trump is here, we go for a fight,” he explained.

The irony of the situation shouldn’t be lost on anyone: while Trump was busy deporting migrants (and some U.S. residents) through ICE raids, he sidestepped visa restrictions imposed by his own government to allow a UFC fighter representing a sanctioned dictator to compete on U.S. soil. It is yet another example of the textbook cronyism of the Trump administration—an era rooted in corporate favours and regulatory green lights for those willing to play along.

And though Chimaev publicly fawns over Kadyrov, it is impossible to know whether that loyalty is heartfelt or coerced. To many Chechen dissidents, Chimaev is a traitor—a fighter who sold his soul in exchange for a place in Kadyrov’s inner circle. He flaunts his newfound wealth on social media, regularly posing alongside his fleet of cars in the UAE. He boasts friendships with Kadyrov’s teenage sons, and even—according to reports from the Chechen dissident group NIYSO—recently took on a second wife in Chechnya, this time a 17-year-old girl who was reportedly forced into the marriage.

“According to sources, on January 11th, a wedding ceremony took place in the village of Elin-Yurt, during which a local woman was given to Chimaev as a wife,” read a portion of the report. “However, a few days before the celebration, the girl was kidnapped by Chimaev’s friends, as she had caught the fighter’s eye. The court gladiator immediately rushed to Kadyrov’s residence to seek advice from his padishah [Chechen for “king”]. In response, he instructed him to hold a wedding ceremony, but as secretly as possible.”

Despite reportedly kidnapping and marrying an underage woman—which is also illegal across the Russian Federation—and operating as a propagandist for a strongman who oppresses his people and purges the republic LGBTQ+ population, the UFC has no qualms with featuring Chimaev atop their fight cards. They promote him like a star and have gone out of their way to ensure that he continued to fight for the organization even when he was barred from entering the United States. To make matters worse, Chimaev’s upcoming title defence is against Sean Strickland, a former neo-Nazi who is among the UFC’s most bigoted and misogynistic fighters—and that’s truly saying something.

As for Chimaev, his story is no longer that of a fearless contender rising to greatness, but of a gifted fighter diminished into a warlord’s prized possession — a UFC champion who sold his soul to the Chechen strongman.
The important bit is this from a telegram source
He boasts friendships with Kadyrov’s teenage sons, and even—according to reports from the Chechen dissident group NIYSO—recently took on a second wife in Chechnya, this time a 17-year-old girl who was reportedly forced into the marriage.

So apparently if taken as true, he got himself a second wife who his friends kidnapped because he fancied her, then he ran to Kadyrov who told him to marry her with his approval.
@Bakachev please get your boy. He's bringing disgrace on the brathas with his feminine tendencies:

For the people screaming robbery, why would the UFC allow Khamzat to 'make weight', the fight goes to the cards on a clearly split decision, and then NOT put their finger on the scale for the guy they allow to miss weight and fight once per year? I'm all for a good conspiracy, but the conspiracy has to at minimum be internally consistent.
I've tried to look this fat fuck up but his opsec seems good. This guy is the definition of soy+grifter. Ooking like an ape and making himself look like a clown/ragebait for clicks.

Its a real indictment on middleweight that the best three fighters in the division have such glaring weaknesses. Dricus will just snatch the belt from Sean again if there's a 3rd fight, who'll instantly lose to Khamzat in a rematch.

Sean looked outclassed in DDP 2, but Dricus looked like he didn't belong in the same organization as Chimaev. One of the most disgraceful performances I've ever seen, and made worse by Sean's win.

The washed out Khamzat who absolutely does not know how to strike did this to Sean, imagine what DaddyDP will do yo him. Sean is a paper champ who will lose his next fight (again)

The thing is, Khamzat does know how to strike. Among wrestlers in the UFC, he's one of the more technical boxers. The problem is, when you're boxing with Sean, your defense better be as good as his. Khamzat was just holding a static high guard too much and ended up eating too many jabs.

If Khamzat doesn't improve his defense he's going to get the Burns treatment again. That'll be another war. Bad for him, great for the fans though.

I would say he has ideas but none of them are cohesive or go to his a-game. He’s throwing body shots, kicks, jab into overhand etc. Most of it though is one idea deep at most, and worse is that none of it seems to connect to his wrestling/grappling at all.

Seen this and also Burns and to an extent Usman - he’s either going full tilt on the wrestling or he’s striking. He’s very rarely if at all striking into the wrestling or using the wrestling to really set up his striking. He has maybe one kick setup into a shot and that’s like the one he starts off with.

So if I were to compare him to Amasov. That guys striking sets up his takedowns (can see in many of his Bellator fights). He double jabs which gets him in, he feints level changes and then comes up with a left hook, he high kicks to stand you up to then change level. He does shit like inside low kick, then he feints it to double jab, then next time it’s a jab into single leg because the guy pulls back expecting the double jab.

Even Taira imo is a much worse striker than Khamzat but his connection between his jab and the shot in is much more obvious how it connects.

I don't count jab and sloppy swing as competent boxing unless the standard you are talking about is Ben Asscream, he barely won against burns who has significantly less reach and got outstruck by Usman, and also would get ktfo'd by DDP under one minute had he tried stand up with him.
Don't really think he can ever improve his defense, dude has a really piss poor range management which is why he always takes hit. He better improve his cardio instead of ever try to box again.

I just came back from watching the co main, and honestly, Tatsuro's team was fucking horrible. His corner just kept giving him inspirational quotes like "believe in yourself", "you can do it", etc. And the game plan was horrible. Boxing with Van???? Idk if his team really thought he could hang with Joshua in the pocket or was it Taira's ego but that guy had no business boxing with the champ. Taira should have been a LOT more kick heavy. Think like Paddy against Bobby Green or Paulo against Azamat. I don't care if it's to the leg, body or head, keep the fight at range you retarded jap. Do that and you make Joshua run after you, which opens him for takedowns. He had a ton of success with leg kicks early so I don't understand why he stopped going for them. Tatsuro should switch gyms.

Both he and Taira could learn one of the most basic forms of boxing defence (which Strickland does all the time) of catching jabs instead of eating them or trying a crap double forearm guard. I swear it's one of the moves DDP took into for his rematch with Sean and it's a big reason why he just didn't get his so much by the jab. First fight he kept trying to walk in behind the double forearm guard and just got jabbed in the middle. 2nd time, other than keeping Sean at long range he parried, caught, caught and countered with it.

But boxing defence in MMA is famously trash. Fucking Izzy didn't do this vs Sean and elected to try and slip and move out of the way - yeah that might work if the guy is overthrowing big punches, but if all he's doing is jabbing and teeping, that's hard to do without getting hit or getting tired.

Thoughts on the Netflix MVP card this Saturday?
I’m interested to see how it goes, even with the uncs and the retired moms I think it has the potential to be a good thing for the sport in terms of having something other than the UFC so that market competition can be encouraged in the US.
