Stipe looked shot as expected. Jones looked regressed - same things that work for him are there but not as good. Slow as well. GnP still looks good and works. Kicks are ok but slower.

I think JBJ dominates Aspinal within 2. I base this off of the reasoning that Aspinal was able to steamroll through Pavlovich.. but Jones has fought faster fighters at LHW. His camp will focus to debilitate the speed of Aspinal.

I think JBJ wrestlefucks Alex to oblivion. He’s definitely not going to stand up to someone who has a shotgun in both arms, and Alex has poor takedown defense. Easy work for someone who is moderately skilled in wrestling with deadly GnP.

I hate to be a Jones mark after how much of a pussy he has been leading up to this fight, but dude still has it

Idk man, I've been a big fan of Jones as a fighter since he came into the UFC but he got caught by Stipe multiple times in this fight and Tom is quicker and hits harder that Stipe. I think he looked much worse than he did against Gane although the finish was amazing.

He fought (debatably) faster fighters at LHW like 4+ years ago, he's much visibly much slower now. I think Aspinall beats him.

But I 100% agree with you about him vs Pereira.

I think that if Jones turns his back to Aspinall as much as he did now, he's going to get KO'd. Overall, his striking defense was pretty iffy. He got by because he has a good chin and because Stipe never really followed up on the shots he tagged him with.

Watched the co-main after the main event as a palette cleanser. So satisfying to see Charles style on Chandler for five rounds, fuck that cheating gnome.
 
I just rewatched the fight and I have a couple more autistic observations.

1) Jones looked bloated as hell. I know the media was trying to spin this as he was trying to come in more lean into this fight, but it really looks like he’s having difficulties bulking up. That’ll be one advantage Tom has over Jon - he’s naturally very big.

2) Jon didn’t look as bad as he did rusty. Minus the injury layoff, I think Jon would have gotten Stipe out of there in the first round fairly handily. You guys are absolutely right in that Tom, in Stipe’s position, would likely have put Jon down. I cannot help but wonder how this entire situation would have played out if we didn’t have to wait so long for the fight.

3) 0 fanfare for Stipe retiring made me kind of sad. I don’t know if it’s because dude talks with a bunch of marbles in his mouth or if they were running out of time, but at least let the man have his moment. Looked like he wanted to drop his gloves in the center of the octagon but was ushered out. Suppose that’s what happens when every fight on the main card runs to decision.

4) the amount of power Jones can generate from those chicken legs of his at HW is very impressive. If I’m Tom, I’m circling Jon and I’m teeing off with every variety of leg kick immediately. I don’t like them, but shut him down with oblique kicks. In a firefight, I give the edge to Jones. Jones likely isn’t as powerful and Tom, but he’s insanely precise and his timing is impeccable. In the event that the firefight doesn’t go his way, he’s effortlessly tossing your ass onto the mat. Saw it with Gane and Miocic. Much more difficult to do if your legs are compromised.

Yan v Figgy next week should be a lot of fun. Also, lol at Colby for being relegated to a Fight Night guy. Don’t know how he has enough pull to main event one, but still. Good for him I guess. Have a feeling Buckley is going to get tossed around.

He looked mesmerized by Paul, who wasn’t doing anything spectacular. Bo looked like he wanted he wanted to go for a cheeky ankle pick, but was getting checked. The cope coming from Nickal’s camp is pretty amusing. He didn’t need to take him down to get the win, so why bother? Building experience. “Dominant victory”.

That’s what training is for. It’s really disrespectful to your opponent to not bring your A-game, especially when you also look like shit. I was a fan of Bo’s but I would love to see him get fed to Khamzat, or hell, Vettori.

Real hyped for the card this weekend. Not throwing around any money on it, just gonna enjoy it. The Ulberg v Oezdmir bout should be fun. Petr vs Figgy is PPV worthy in my eyes, so this is a real treat.

Conor actually got pegged for the recent allegations against him. Can’t say I’m a fan of the guy (fighter - sure), but I can say that I’m vehemently against spurious and gay lawsuits. There’s probably going to be swathe of them incoming. I remember watching a recent BKFC event where his wife literally had to pull his drunk and coked up ass off of a very dingy looking Britain Hart (BKFC champion). Dude’s activity in public is really going to bite him in the ass.

Absolutely. WMMA in foreign countries is pretty awesome because they let it all on the line. RIZIN, in particular, has some pretty gnarly WMMA fights that devolve into wars of attrition resulting in Japanese women’s faces receiving permanent contour lines.

Xiaonan got absolutely battered by Zhang at UFC 300 but kept just marching forward for more punishment like she was an automaton. Maybe she is because she’s Chinese.
