Anecdotally seen twitter BJJ accounts say that they have had an influx of new students coming in after watching this event. People with no combat sports background. If that is the case, it’s a massive success.
It was probably the most successful weekend BJJ has had in a long time, the main complaint about the sport is that it’s very opaque to a viewer who doesn’t train. And now people IRL are asking my opinion on it.
Basically “Hey, Veteran, you’re a jujitsu guy right? I caught the CJI after hearing about it on Rogan, that was wild.” And to me, that’s a good sign.

I think the fact that it was well produced and free on youtube helped. The bulk of grappling events are usually locked behind a paywall and are usually on a shit streaming services that isn't worth the money or appealing to the new or casual viewer.

Flograppling is absolutely amazing for a grappler who wants to watch a ton of grappling, but complete dogshit for every other human being on the face of the planet.
I know I’m interested in some random wrestling meet or some random BJJ tournament, but let’s be honest here what I as a grappler look for and what a regular sports fan look for are completely different things, and CJI managed to bridge the gap.

I think even people who are into grappling are ditching Flograppling. Their business practices, fees and quality of streams are pushing people away to the point that people won't watch ADCC because they hate Flo that much.

That's part of the reason I support CJI, competition between organizations will necessitate better products for the consumer. It's Capitalism 101, the consumer gets to choose where their dollar goes and it will be to the most convenient and quality product, in this case sports for entertainment.

True. ADCC didn't offer much motivation financially for most athletes outside of 'Prestige' and their streaming quality and pricing is below par. So CJI has been a welcome change and hopefully motivates ADCC to make some proper changes.

When CJI happens next year, I hope they make a few changes.

1. Have the 80+ division a bit deeper talent wise.
2. Possibly having a smaller venue. Just thinking would it be better completely selling out a smaller venue than trying to fill a bigger room.
3. Having a woman's division would be good. Maybe have smaller bracket of ten competitors to see how it goes and how much interest there is.
4. I'm still not sure about having a third day. I don't know if people would get fatigued from a three day event. Unless the Friday opening day was short to like four hours. I do like the superfights and how they add a bit of a buffer for the competitors to get rest between matches.
5. People have been talking about CJI having multiple matches running at once with split streams. I kind of like having one match at a time as it doesn't split crowd or commentator focus and it's easier for the viewer to follow.

The CJI (and the kade v tackett fight in particular) is probably the best thing to happen for BJJ since Royce won UFC 1.

the whole event is free to watch on YouTube if anyone is interested, thank you based Craig Jones

If they wanna make the Craig Jones invitational a recurring thing, there's genuinely no reason for someone to watch ADCC unless they're, like, a fan of that creep Gordon Ryan.

Shazam vs Meerkat third round was pretty wild.

I'm noticing that the week after a bullshit early stoppage is usually worth watching because the refs overcompensate and don't do shit.

I made a torrent with the first 25 fight night cards. I don't know if I am allowed to post that here but I thought guys would want to see the fights.

Mikey Muscemi's been having a rough couple of days. He was supposed to move from flyweight to lightweight, then his opponent got injured and he was given less than a week to cut about 35 pounds to get back down to flyweight to defend his title. Obviously he doesn't make weight, his belt gets stripped, and now he's hospitalized because of how extreme the cut is. Why did ONE even try and make him do a 5 day 35lb cut?

He was meant to compete in a superfight at the Craig Jones Invitational too, but pulled out because of some undisclosed issue.
Just a real bad stretch of luck for him.

I wonder if his issues with CJI had to do with ONE fucking him over? But I kinda doubt it idk, both the Ruotolo brothers are also contracted with ONE and they both competed in cji. So I don't think they'd single out Mikey...?

Dana White just confirmed that Chandler will not be fighting Conor next. Chandler denied the fight.
