Pereira is what Chandler thought he was when he first entered the UFC. Not here for a long time, but here for a good time. If he manages to get his HW matchup for the memes, then it's all fun. Heavyweight has maybe 4-5 good fighters for the division (which means they are still quite bad - Gane got 2 title fights without knowing how to wrestle).
just realised Gane vs Alex might be a good shout. could also be a total shit fight though.

Yep he doesn't really have much to lose going up to HW. If he loses, it doesn't matter as being at the top of three weight classes is pretty rare. If he wins then he's going to get a title shot. Heck he might get one automatically if they don't get anyone for Aspinal.

I also wonder how many more years Alex is going to fight for?

I was invited to watch UFC by a coworker (ep.300?). I have never really watched it before, except some clips on YouTube. I can see the fun in watching it, but the ads unironically ruin it. Why is there an ad read not only in between the rounds but during the fight?? Nigger, I am here to watch people get fucked up and I can't even do that without some gay ass ad distracting me from the fight.

I get that they need to make money, and could stomach some ads, but they are plastered everywhere. Every free second is used to sell you something, on top of the stickers that are plastered everywhere. And why are they trying to convince me that all the athletes are drinking Logan Paul's Prime. The formula is so shit, no serious trainer would rely on it to actually replenish lost electrolytes of their athlete.

Sorry, I don't want to derail anything, but I needed to vent a bit, and this seems the appropriate place to talks about it.

Are there always so many ads and how was it a couple of years ago? I heard that there was some sort of Rebook deal that fucked the fighters over; did that play a major role?

The Reebok deal was that the Reebok sporting goods company bought exclusive outfitting rights with the UFC. Fighters had to wear Reebok stuff in the ring, and the issue with this was that high level fighters were making most of their money by taking sponsors and wearing sponsor logos on their own gear. In addition to some people not liking how everyone getting the Reebok uniforms homogenized everything and took away some flair, a lot of fighters would have rather kept the cash they could bring in from a sponsor than the rather paltry increase in their pay the UFC as a whole getting paid by Reebok gave them.

Yeah, it's unbearable. ESPN plays the same four or five commercials back to back. Canceled my account over it. I'll either pirate or stop watching.

pirate or stop watching
the stream i watch for 300 had no ads. piracy ftw. american ads are uniquely horrible, it's like the advertiser is trying to be my friend and share a laugh while they try and sell me on a gambling app. really leaves me feeling unclean.
cant watch that shit with ads ever

He pirated it as well, but there were still ads everywhere. Are the ads different depending from what country you watch from? It seemed to me that one of the life commentator made the in-match ads themselves. And the announcer made also made an ad for Turbotax right before starting the match.

But in any case. This is a perfect example why pirating is justified. If I were a fan, I would pirate it just out of principle.

Ads on the octagon. Ads on the fighters' clothing. Ads on their water bottles. Ads around the arena. Ad breaks between rounds. Live ad reads during rounds. In ring announcer doing ad reads before each match. Replays brought to you by sponsor. Official announcements brought to you by sponsors. Ads during the weigh-in show. Ads during the pre-fight show. Ads during the post fight show. Sponsored items in the press conference. Fighters doing ad reads and begging for sponsors during post fight speeches.

But the worst is spending twenty minutes between fights to pad the show out for advertising time. If someone gets a first round knockout they will then spend the next twenty minutes stalling before the next fight and doing nothing but playing ads or reading sponsors over and over.

And this is for a sports promotion that pays most of its roster mid five figures per year to fight.

That is pure lunacy. I have never seen or heard such horrible ads. Is there no pushback by the wider community? How do people tolerate this. The people I watched it with didn't seem to mind too, which I found really strange.

And how is there no pushback when it comes to the fighters pay? They arguably endure more damage then most of the other fighters in different sports. It also really shows the character of people like Rogan who is still admire for whatever reason. He apparently got a $250'000'000 / year deal from Spotify but still doesn't call out the Bullshit. He does not in any way depend on the money he gets form the UFC, which either leads me to believe that he is a greedy bald goblin or just doesn't care about the sport he proclaims to love.

The Reebok deal was a symptom, not the cause. There have always been ads, but when the old owners were looking to sell they went ham with shit like the Reebok deal and the like in an effort to make themselves look more profitable, and therefore more valuable. Now it's getting worse because the execs are all turbo kikes, and the overall company is publicly traded which massively increases the need for consistent profit growth. The same execs have talked about bringing this sort of shit to the WWE which is the other main property they control as part of TKO.

Anytime people talk about the shitty Reebok uniforms all I can think about is this:

There was some, especially when the Reebok deal came in. The main problem is there's not really a lot fans can actually do, short of not buying PPVs and the like, and even that avenue got nerfed once the UFC got the ESPN deal and it's guaranteed money. The biggest issue is the casual audience who only buy a couple of shows a year when there's a big name fight, don't know or care about any of this, and they make up the majority.

And how is there no pushback when it comes to the fighters pay?
There has been some here as well, but the main problem is there's too many nigger cattle fighters who are happy with letting the UFC shit all over them on the off chance they might eventually make it big. Every attempt by the fighters themselves to create some sort of union/association to represent them (which is how other sports got their players better deals), has died on the vine. If the fighters themselves can't or won't do shit about it, what exactly are fans supposed to do?

A lot of people just don't watch them. They'll take that ad break as time to get up and go get a drink or some food or use the bathroom or scroll on their phones or whatever, and the sheer length of the ad breaks does make that easier to do than something still ad ridden but in more bursts like the NBA. People watching socially also aren't that likely to really care, they'll just chat with their buddies.

You fucking faggots, you want BETTER pay for those MMfAggots?
Dana can barely afford shoes and you fucking idiots want an even worse paycheck for him?
Just look at how hard the man struggles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xhtft4ijpS8
Your greed is hurting the UFC
I feel bad for Dana and the fighters for having to listen to these retards of how they needed to be paid

Some of these Hill "when trash talk goes wrong" edits are going well.
ssstwitter.com_1713120424760.mp4
it makes me deeply happy knowing that not only the mma youtubers who seriously thought hill had a fighting chance at pereira but rather alex doing his taunt after the fact.

i wasn’t a huge fan of hill considering all he does is shit talk trolls all day and claim he’s one of the greatest lightweights to do it

i came into this sport an izzy fan but damn, alex is speedrunning into being one of my favorite fighters of all time

I remember watching the press conference before izzy fought Jan, in his failed attempt at becoming LHW champ (probably at the zenith of the guy's popularity): a reporter asked, 'do you think after he beats Jan, Adesanya can be the first three division champ if he goes up to HW'.
after ufc 300, people are having the same conversations about Alex. life really comes at ya fast.

i think in the fever of all Alex has done, people forget how exciting izzy was, and how many people he brought into the sport, back when people were saying he was like 'the second Anderson'. I really loved izzy in those days. I guess it goes to show how fast the Fandom moves, people only ever discuss him now as an unlikable, boring fighter who's biggest contribution to the sport was getting Alex to quit kickboxing.
I wonder if he can ever recapture the magic, or if it's 100% joever for the Last Chinaman

without going into massive detail and power leveling, i don’t discredit izzy’s skill at all. again, the reason why i watched UFC was because i thought it was cool that a dude who beats the shit out of people for a living was a nerd like me. i was upset when he fought alex for the first time and lost, and was happy when he knocked out alex the second time. i think the tide started turning for me was more specifically the strickland fight. i get the whole samurai chinaman shit that jiri and izzy do but seeing strickland dismantle izzy at press conferences made it easier to dislike him

regarding the HW point, it’s seriously insane how quickly he’s coming up in the GOAT conversation

for me it was around the time of the second Vettori fight. until he fought Costa, he was so fucking fun to watch it was crazy, but then he started fighting in such a boring way (a very smart way that minimised damage lol), that I started to hope that the MW division got shaken up.

but you're right the Strickland fight was insane. I've never before seen the tide turn against a guy like that, it was as if the hands of fate moved against him. I think that fight is what lost him the most goodwill except from his diehard fans

that said I think adesanya is the second greatest middleweight of all time (after Anderson), and I think he has it in him to be champion again

agreed

one can only hope for izzy vs DDP

watching that live was insane for me, i was extremely tired because UFC runs late for me and what woke me up was strickland getting the upper hand against izzy

LHW is cooked
