Yeah, MVP would get murdered against most of the UFC roster.

He still does the meme fighting thing of keeping his hands down by his waist even though his speed is starting to go. That's okay against Bellator nobodies but high level UFC opponents will catch him out with that shit if they simply don't just outwrestle him.

Pec injury is actually more common for steroid users. PicoKarma finally hit Jones in the tendon, I wish this happened in the actual fight, while Stipe hammer locking his shoulder and raining down elbows in his face.
It's such bullshit UFC is allowing him to sustain the belt, just so they can keep using his name. Vacate that shit. Aspinall and Pavlovic are both tougher match ups than old Stipe imo, but we probably never see them vs Tendon Jones.

It’s even better. Several MMA journalists have confirmed that they are still making Jones Stipe even after the injury. So he gets to not only keep the belt but skip the mandatory challenger.

Only other time I remember this was Bisping and Whittaker, and they both had the excuse of getting injured at bad, long times. Bisping gets injured so they do an interim with Romero and Whittaker. Whittaker gets his knee jacked in the fight and pulls through but is basically out so they ran Bisping vs GSP. Jones doesn’t even have that. Just gets to keep the belt and not fight the interim guy.

Solidifies it in my mind that Jones retires after the fight. Company giving their man one last gift. Hopefully they'll bump the interim up to undisputed after.

Man, Frankie Edgar’s final fight was so sad. They made a big deal about his kids being there to watch and everything, pretty sure they said at least one had never seen him fight before (:_(

In new news, eight months is kind of a long time to wait to fight when you’re Stipe’s age. I think he’ll go through with it given the opportunity (aka assuming Jon jones doesn’t just retire instead), but it’s probably not gonna be pretty unless JJ’s shoulder proves to be donezo. Could end up being the same kind of situation as Aljo v Dillashaw, we’ll see

Also, I like Islam. I get the impression the greater MMA peanut gallery kind of turned on him after the completely unsubstantiated rumors re: the IV rehydration, but I think he’s a decent guy who consistently lives up to the hype and I’m excited to watch him defend again.
I’d literally be willing to consider paying for a PPV instead of streaming if Dana somehow became concussed enough to give Conor a title shot against Islam, it would be worth it to watch him get pummeled by another Dag without
worrying about a lost connection. Please, Anne, slap him a little harder next time! Do it for me!

For real though, it is too bad for Volk. That’s gonna be hard to come back from, but if he stays at featherweight for a time I think he’ll be just fine. I don’t know if he beats Topuria, but the fight should be great either way (I hope)

Aspinall got interviewed after the fight got announced and revealed that he was (prior to this dropping out) in talks and agreements with the UFC upper brass to be on the shortlist for title shots specifically because they expected a double retirement for Jones and Stipe after they fought. Plan was him and Pavlovich. Now that Jones has injured himself I guess they are just going to do this fight and the winner will wait until both retire and then get upgraded to real champ.
 
Wow, that was a crazy performance by N'igger. He was always good at hitting back harder after getting hit hard, and all the devastating KOs happened like that, but I wasn't really sure if he can do that against Fury (he did multiple times). Plus, I liked how he sneaked in punches or out wrestled in clinches, when Fury tried to bully him in close range. Best MMA -> Boxing transition ever.
