them stopping using USADA doesn't mean they're gonna just allow drugs, sadly. i'm pro-steroids. but they'll probably just use a different contractor like VADA, like boxing does, or do some in-house shit like ONE.

USADA sucked, btw, it was far from a perfect solution, and i'm personally a fan of the decision. USADA harasses fighters, strips them of their privacy (sometimes literally, like when a USADA rep forced tim kennedy to shower in front of them)
they ruined the career of tom lawler and he wasted his prime waiting out a suspension for something he was pretty much innocent of, something that a few years later they arbitrarily decided the punishment for wouldnt be 3 years suspension but like a 3 months ban.

good on mcgregor for being the final straw that gets rid of them. personally, i too would like a return to the pride days, but i don't think that is gonna be in the cards lol

They are going with The Drug Free Sporting Institute - apparently they do NBA and NFL (don't watch either).

Guess we will find out once they start testing. NFL/NBA guys seem to rarely get popped and when they do its some irrelevant player or an obvious roid-head who doesn't try to hide it. Last time that I remember a star being investigated was Peyton Manning at the end of his career(~8 years ago) using HGH for injury recovery. The league didn't start an investigation until an Al-Jazeera documentary accused him of having it shipped to his house under his wife's name. Judging by the Wikipedia article suspensions for PEDs are pretty rare and there aren't many great players on the list.

The organization also tests for the MLB where there's more history with PED related headlines and guys do get popped occasionally, so I guess they do something.

There's no way NFL players aren't juiced to the tits. Guys are like 300 lb with abs in the NFL lol. I think this new agency is even more lax than USADA

Good riddance to be honest. There are some ridiculous stories about USADA going around, like Jiri getting tested 64 times in a year. All that to catch a negligible amount of fighters while I'm willing to bet a good chunk of the roster is on some kind of PED anyway.

This week-end's card was one of the best in recent memory, a handful of fun fights like Elkins - Brown and Martinez - Yanez , and an amazing comeback by Edson.

not sure if anyone is watching 294, but haven't followed recent ufc shit but part of me hopes this card will be amazing

Welp. Volk went out on his shield, but I respect the man for taking the fight on. Doesn't hurt the heart any less to see him go down like that though.

Chimaev honestly didn't impress against Usman. Definitely no way you could score it for Usman but he did jack shit to the man outside of Round 1. The second time Chimaev has faced legitimate talent (even if Usman is well over the hill at this point) and it's been a bit of a dud.

i was actually upset watching the knockout to volk, but fair fucking play. i don't care for the Dagestan fighters but damn.

5 rounds?

It's kinda funny to me that about a few seconds before it happened I could just feel it in my bones. Was kicking his body and leg way more than last time, he's backed him to the fence, oh he's going to go high now, then it happened. Post fight had Volk talk about him having some mental issues of going nuts when he's not active, which is why he went for this fight as soon as he could. Kinda sad.

Chimaev didn't impress. Ok, he got Usman down with is impressive, but then he tired out once he sprinted at entirely his own pace? It's middlweight so he probably crushes most guys in that first round.

Chimaev won't make 5 rounds, he just doesn't have the discipline to pace himself. Dude's a 1 round wonder and he's shown a few times now that he gasses when he doesn't get it done within two minutes. That being said, I doubt Marty would have been able to do much more over a 5 round fight this time around, his knees are shot and he just couldn't match that obscene goat fucker strength.

Volk knows his days at the top are numbered and he's chasing the bag and legacy. He's got years of wear and tear from playing rugby before jumping into MMA and you don't tend to bounce back from nasty KO's like that. I just hope he doesn't end up going the way Frankie Edgar did.

but I am surprised he wasn't released earlier
I'm not. Mostly because there's basically no cost to them in keeping him under contract on the off chance he actually gets off his ass and fights again. Plus I've heard speculation Bellator got a cut of his boxing purse, similar to how the UFC did when Conor fought Floyd.

On a related free agency note, the UFC is apparently looking at Michael "Venom" Page after Bellator let his contract lapse as well:
“He’s a kid that we’re definitely interested in,” White said Saturday night when asked about the UFC potentially signing Page. “He’s interested too. Possibly.”
First of all, kid, really? Nigga is 36 and has had 23 pro fights over 11 years, not to mention all the kickboxing before that.

Secondly, why? Dude has crushed more cans than a fucking recycling plant at this point. Surely they can't be that hard up for another token Brit fighter to pad out the (very) occasional UK card, right?

Don't you remember the padding they did with Pimblett? One of the worst fighters on the roster.
