You might be on to something. I wonder if they had a weird undocumented beef way back in the China kickboxing days? The way he taunted him after knocking him out then and his kid mocking him too and all that. The memes I've seen about it are pretty funny, like Izzy referencing anime only for A-log Pereira to reveal he speaks fluent Japanese and watches w/o subs.

Undeniably I think they genuinely don’t like each other. When they did the staredown in the cage, Goddard didn’t even get to finish his pre fight instructions and say “if you want to touch gloves, now is the time”. They just both backed up before he could get it out.

I think part of it is the kickboxing history and clash of personalities, but also think it’s the class difference between them. Pereira grew up in the favelas, worked in a car repair shop from 12 or 13, was an alcoholic to cope before he was a legal adult, did kickboxing to save himself. Izzy comes from a decently well off Nigerian family, went off into kickboxing because why not, he’s really good at it and can make money. If you are Pereira, probably have a chip on your shoulder looking at how Izzy has blown up to being an international superstar.

Adesanya tries too hard to have a personality and characteristics to set himself apart.

Izzy probably could have won if he had fought an MMA bout instead of trying to prove himself in a kick-boxing match with someone who had already beaten him in that discipline. All the Silva style dancing in the world won't help you if the other guy cops onto the fact that you aren't ever going to follow it up with anything damaging. It's just a matter of wait-and-see for the better striker at that stage and that's what won the fight.

Esparza fucking sucks and has failed upwards so i'm glad Zhang utterly destroyed her.

On a whim I decided to look up the reactions to Islam's win over Oliveira when this chucklefuck caught my eye.

Remember when Conor McGregor was getting his head smashed into the canvas by Khabib and Dominick Cruz tried to say that he was just trying to tire Khabib out? Imagine that type of ball licking, but with no pretense of expertise or insight.

This guy's odd, he had a feud going on with Dam Hardy for a while over the 1st Covington/Usman fight and also had beef with O'Malley. He's actually quite funny but his actual breakdowns of combat sports is trash.

He tried, but turns out he's not good at it. Izzy's whole MMA game is designed around denying all the other areas of MMA and forcing a kickboxing fight, where these MMA fighters are just not nuanced at it as he is (and also suffer from a frame disadvantage). For the first time since Blachowicz, he a) had to engage with someone who had a similar/larger frame than him, and b) had to engage in those other areas of MMA which he's not good at.

The clinch was a really good example where he had the better knowledge of positions, and often got dominant positions on Pereira, but wasn't comfortable doing anything but holding onto him in those position. This lead to stretches where Pereira was blasting him with body knees and uppercuts while Izzy held him, winning him those positions scoring wise, and building up a big attritional lead that paid off in round 5.

He also couldn't get any takedowns he initiated, with the only time it went to the ground being because Pereira tried to do a very shitty trip and got reversed. Here he showed better ideas like wrist controlling Pereira's posting hands, but couldn't advance positions. For an apparent BJJ purple belt, he seemed to have little idea how to stick the back hooks in and transition from wrist control/back body lock to a back take, against someone who is a complete novice.

I don't think him doing MMA will work too well in a rematch. He's not good at using it offensively. He's not Whittaker, who is a legit shot wrestler and can pull that out when he wants/needs to.

Shoulder injury during wrestling, from descriptions appears to be something similar to TJ's where it keeps popping out. Glover was offered Ankalaev for the vacant belt. He said he wanted more time, do it in January in Brazil. UFC said no, they need a title fight main event for this card. He said give me a rematch with Blachowicz, they said no, they wanted the young guy to fight, he declined.

Main event is now Jan Blachowicz vs Magomed Ankalaev for the vacant title, a potential snoozer of a main event. Jan the patient, defensively sound counter puncher with the odd awkward, awful blitzes vs Ank, a patient southpaw counterpuncher who throws like one kick or jab a minute and tries to bait out counters, and refuses to wrestle, in spite it clearly being the best part of his game. Sounds like we are in for a staring contest.

They upgraded the annoying Britbong, Paddy Pimblett, to co main against Jared Gordon, another guy who is not very athletic and that they hope Paddy can beat. This dude is one of the most annoying draws of casual fans I have seen in a while. Overhyped, not a good fighter, will never be a serious contender, a complete Scouse joke.

Knowing our luck, they will put Till on the main card as well, another annoying Britbong who can convince fighters to have slow paced, dogshit fights.

I just hope Glover gets his title shot against the winner.

Holy shit Jiri Prochazka is really out of UFC 282. Man that fucking sucks, he is easily one of the most entertaining fighters in the entire UFC roster. Massive props for Jiri vacating instead of stalling the LHW division.
The UFC have confirmed that when he comes back after healing up, he gets to walk right into a title fight. Makes sense given how he never lost the belt, did the UFC a solid by allowing them to keep the division moving and options open, and by being a crazy fun action fighter who everyone wants to watch.

Damn Tai got disciplined.

Edit: wow this sure was a good night to be old it seems RDA, Clay, and Wonderboy winning.

Poirier is in the hospital with a Staph infection and apparently it's pretty serious. Reminder to stay clean if you go to gyms or MMA facilities.
