Okay so any guy on the UFC roster in Nunes' weightclass would defintively fuck her up right? I've talked about the men v women in sports thing in the McKinnon thread, but combat sports have weight classes which would mitigate some of the physical advantages of sports like tennis or soccer where average men have easily beaten world class women. I just don't know what you do with Nunes because this shit is a joke.

Edit: Glad Blachowicz won heavily on points. If that fight was 10-20 seconds longer it might have been called. Adesanya looked damn good early but just not big enough when it went to the ground. Class act in the post fight interview too.

But Izzy has my respect, I can't hate on the man for superficial reasons anymore. Have to appreciate great fighters when they come along. And whoever scored it 49-45 is a dang dirty troll.

Commentary team were bias in the first rounds for sure. Those were much closer than they gave them credit for. Jan checked a lot of those kicks in the start and started landing some stuff later on. Ground game was night and day. Difference between a purple belt and a black belt was on display.

Complete respect for both guys and the way they fought. Can't dislike Izzy after how he conducted himself post fight.
 
Jan's gameplan was probably the best way to deal with Israel. Solid defense, land some hits, and use his weight in grapples and takedowns later in the fight when Israel just can't do anything to stop him. Surprised he went the full 5 rounds too.

Since it's Sunday for me I went back and rewatched the fight with sound off. I think Jan out struck him in those early rounds. Izzy was the aggressor and feinting a lot, getting Jan to react, but Jan's defence was tight. The feints didn't get him to land clean. He would go "feint, feint, leg kick" and Jan would check it 8 to 9/10 times, or "feint feint head/question mark kick" and Jan would block or sway out. Same with Izzy's jabs, he wasn't landing them as often, Jan would move his head just enough to slip it. Jan was, if only just by a fraction. He would punch to the body, or flurry and lead body kick, and those would land clean.

Also, stats had Jan out striking him in every round with significant strikes except the third. I also thing you could argue the 4th round was a 10-8 with how long he was on Izzy. Is 49=45 too much? IDK, but on a rewatch he won 3-4 rounds depending on how you look at it. I think that's just because Izzy put a lot of stock into feinting to land and it wasn't paying off.

I do not like how the sterling/yan fight played out. First of all, i think the downed opponent rule is too often milked for time. I just don't see how presenting your head undefended is any kind of "position" and really does not play into any part of the sport for me. Secondly, the ufc shouldn't have titles change hands off a no contest. Yan was fucking him up and sterling had every reason to feign not being able to continue.
 
This might sound a little harsh, but i've never considered Izzy a "top tier striker". He's pretty neat with his kicks (especially his question mark kick), but he doesn't have a lot of discipline with his punches nor much variety in his punch defense.

Izzy's rear hand is too slow and overextended, which allowed Jan to go under it for an easy takedown. Izzy's punches in general are just not that good; they're slow, lazy, and sometimes suffer from wasted movement meant for flash (e.g. Izzy waving his rear hand around his head after he throws it like a showboating boxer).

Izzy also relies too much on pulling to avoid punches, especially jabs (he did this multiple times in the Jan fight). He slips here and there, but it's not common. His stance is not wide enough to allow him to dodge punches laterally most of the time. He doesn't incorporate blocks or parries into his skillset that much either.

On the other hand, I felt Jan was almost the same as he was before; but was a bit more willing to use wrestling to take advantage of Izzy closing distance, which ended up making a pretty big difference. Other than that, Jan was still throwing awkward punches the same way he did in his previous matches, but timed Izzy's entries with combinations instead of single punches that Izzy would've easily dodged.

Anyways, Izzy vs. Jan was uneventful, but I wholeheartedly thought that Izzy would win by knockout somewhere in the fourth by baiting Jan to throw a punch that he would counter. Despite my prediction not being true, I felt that the fight was still competitive. Izzy defended whatever punches Jan threw well enough (most of the time), but it was Jan's durability, wrestling, and increased carefulness for this particular fight that made the difference.

Speaking of unexpected outcomes, Yan vs. Sterling was pretty awkward. I didn't watch the full thing yet, but I heard Yan dominated (which I knew he would) but threw an illegal knee in the fourth, which I thought, upon seeing it happen, was both intentional and kind of rash. I don't remember Yan cheating in any of his fights except for this one. Maybe he did it to shut Sterling up, even if it meant giving up his belt. Whatever. I'll gladly wait for the rematch.
 
I agree. Izzy’s latest fights, prior to Jan, have looked like a video game to me. Using Marvel versus Capcom 2 as an example, yeah, he’s fast and he attacks at range; Spider-Man shit. It’s mesmerizing. Against someone who is no-nonsense (Not you, KP), he’s got to be creative. That wasn’t on display versus Jan. I also think the size of the octagon had something to do with gimping Izzy’s offense. Anywho, glad he got served a helping of humble pie. Really moronic for him to thing he could waltz in on a dude who was easily going to weigh 20-30lbs more than he does, naturally.

Leon or Belal? Who cares. Winner gets fed to Covington. Hoping Jinh Yu-Frey can pick up a W. She’s an awesome person.
