Some observations about Mixtape's sales. tl;dr: I'm almost certain that this game is a financial flop given the amount of money spent on the licensed soundtrack alone.

Checked out Mixtape's X account. If anyone was going to brag about "number of players" vs. "units sold," then it would be Mixtape. The bulk of gamers sincerely interested in a three-hour interactive movie are probably accessing it on Game Pass rather than purchasing on Steam. Curiously, there are no tweets at all of the sort. No "number of players" or "units sold" bragging. Nothing on the Mixtape X account but retweeting reviews and praise. The numbers must be bad if they can't even brag about Game Pass player interest.

Next, I noticed retweets from Epic and Unreal Engine accounts. That prompted me to go visit Epic Game Store. As of the time I'm typing this, Mixtape is NOT above the fold. I had to scroll all the way down to "Featured Discounts" and look to the far right of the screen before finally spotting it on the front page. Not good.

Checked in on Steam's front page using a private window to avoid personal algorithm suggestions. Nothing on the front page at all. Clicked "New Releases." Had to scroll down a bit before finding Mixtape listed immediately below something called "Froggy Hates Snow." As of the time I'm typing this, Froggy has more concurrent players (403) than Mixtape (385).

Checked /r/gaming and /r/games. Mostly quiet on Mixtape discourse. Someone in /r/games tried posting that Aftermath article linked elsewhere in this thread, but I'm not sure it even made it to the subreddit's front page.

The absolute bottom line is that none of the above lines up with a true "10/10" game. No bragging about players or units sold. You have to work to find the game on the two major PC stores. Even Reddit isn't biting. "Froggy Hates Snow," whatever that is, has a higher player count. Does this sound like a financially successful game to you? Shouldn't be a 10/10 game be flying off of the digital shelves and be relentlessly spammed by the Reddit theater kids? Real world behavior is simply not lining up with those 10/10 reviews.

Conclusion: Astroturf.

I've looked into the developers.

Apparently the game was in development for 3 years, the core team consists of around 15 people, but the number of people that worked on the game was as high as 50.

That's likely going to rack up a development cost on par with an AA title.

Add to that all the bribes that must have been thrown around, since I doubt the resident journo and gamedev subhumans would be doing this much cock gobbling otherwise, plus the licensing for all the music you mention, and they're nowhere near breaking even with a peak 2,200 concurrent Steam players.

Not that the financial losses matter, the kike whore footing the bill just wants to shit out more of this crap, and daddy has all the money she could ever ask for to do it.

Guess who just gave his blessings to this game?
He finally found the one game he can be good at.

I don't say this lightly, but Dean here is even more inept that DSP and should have a whole team of neurologists studying his brain to figure out how someone that has been playing games for the better part of 30 years can be so bad at them.

fitgirl repacks uploaded the game to xer site and the almost 300 post long comment section is 90% people calling it a movie game and strangely people defending it, lots of corpo dick sucking and ragebait. probably the last place i would assume to find people defending this game and arguing about it.
Bruh. They even soyed my favorite childhood piracy website. We really can't have good things anymore.

Why Mixtape matters.

The biggest issue about this game is the attempt yet again by Big Gaming firms and Gaming Access Media to reclassify What an Indie Game is?

What they want it to be:

  • Any non-legacy (new Ip) game.
  • Any game that has fewer than 200 employees (contractors not included).
  • Budget does not matter.
  • Game must look indie
You can see this in their shilling of Mixtape but also, Dave the Diver. (Arcsys also wants to pretend their shit game. DamonXBaby is indie as well).

The biggest threat is inside our trusted independent reviewers

We really need to be on guard against not only the large game companies but also access media, and gaming personalities trying to push this.

A good example is Luke Stephens someone who made their Bones railing against the gaming industry for games like SSKTJL and other hot button topics.

We now know much like Act-Man that it really was all a grift and taking whatever is the popular position was at the time. Once people like that get access their entire personality/content shifts.

We need to continue to shit on and rail against people like this that are assisting in the assassination and communistic language/term redefinition of what Indie-games are.

game journalists have been a joke for a while now, most people moved onto content creators

now it's the content creators' turn, it's hilarious to see how many of them are willing to die on their hill and lose their credibility by calling this shit perfect

this may be a good game, idk since I didn't play it, but calling this perfect seems like a travesty

As much as this game seems fun to laugh at, I'm getting really fucking irritated going through my YouTube recommended lists and seeing "ABSOLUTE HUMILIATION! Mixtape Barely Gets 1,000 Players On Steam!" in big bold black and red text with pictures of the characters making scared faces by your usual suspects who are milking this easy target of a game. I get it, it looks like a bad game made by literal spawns of satan, but I don't think this game is that influential that it needs more than at least three videos bringing attention to it.

Fitgirl tends to do repacks of pretty much anything, including shovelware shit.

What stood out to me is the pink paw award, cause that's when the repack becomes more personal since you know, he's straight up shilling for it. Hell, when I saw the game on the list, my thought at the time was wondering if the award got slapped on it since it doesn't happen often. Lo and behold, it fucking did.
