They should have made an FFG from the start. An unfucked Independence might be neat but everybody knows it. Constellation can't come soon enough.
Should have, but they didn't. Neither of the LCS are great, but the Independence is at least functional with what they've done to it, giving it 8 Naval Strike Missiles, extra 30mm guns, SEAram, 57mm gun, 24 round Hellfire VLS, drone helicopters, some anti sub/anti mine shit- it'll work as a stopgap. IF the Constellation class unfucks itself, it can go back to a corvette role instead of this light frigate role it's been pushed into.

But still, it's the sickest looking ship the USN has ever had.
USN probably plans to retire the Zumwalts long before the economics of scale in a common HVP would make it feasable to branch off production for AGS compatible shells, even if it was desired, which it probably isn't.
I wasn't even thinking a high velocity projectile, just a projectile that can fit in the gun. Regular 155mm shells are too short. Just make a long boi with zero frills for bombardment. Fuck guidance, the gun system fires at 10rpm and is water cooled. But yeah, probably not lol.
Damn shame because on paper it would become a pretty awesome warship with new missiles and the remaining guns finally working, but they dropped the fucking ball.
I imagine the Zumwalts will stay in service with their new hypersonic tubes until mass deployment of hypersonic weapons becomes a thing. Then one becomes a museum maybe.

Red pill me on the XM-7 drama.
Congress continues to freak out about Russian body armor that doesn’t exist, tells the army to buy a >10 lb rifle to put in the hands of 100lb women and squatamalan infantry.

Rifle is designed around ignoring the lessons on volume of fire being more effective than accuracy of fire.
It’s got a short barrel so that it can fit a suppressor to mitigate the flash from its short barrel.
It uses two types of ammunition that behave completely differently, so everyone who’s ever shot the XM7 has a completely different opinion on it.

Coincidentally, SIG’s CEO is Jewish.

Gonna use the M4 platform for the next 50 years.

People also seemed to assume that somehow, Afganistan being a place where long range is king somehow means everyone should get a gun that can go thru armor at 500 meters when that's normally the job of belt-feds and marksmen. One would think people would actually learn from how the current wars are fought but I guess if it's not done by anglos, then it must be dismissed as garbage.

M17 Pistol - Manufactured by Sig
XM7 Rifle - Manufactured by Sig
Proprietary Magazine - Manufactured by Sig
Proprietary Suppressor - Manufactured by Sig
Proprietary Ammunition - Manufactured by Sig

With the exception of the optic (manufactured by Vortex), someone is getting some very big and very gay kickbacks.

I don't think it's been this bad in terms of a sole manufacture for small arms in a while. You forgot that LMG too. At least Barret is staying in the sniping game. I would have chosen the Beretta upgrade tbh. Cheaper in the longhaul, and it's the devil you know.

Also the XM7 if it MUST stay, should be treated like a bolter and handed out sparingly per squad. Use that shit against armored vehicles. It's faster and hits harder than 7.62x51mm. Would overwhelm a lot of cold war shit.

Also a F-35 learned how to dodge over Yemen. That bombing campaign got toasty

I'm convinced this story is disinformation intended to undersell the F-35s capabilities to enemy nations. "Your air defense is still adequate haha. See even the houthis can almost shoot down an F-35"

Also about the XM7 the cappy guy released a new video about troops opinions of it.

I believe the whole program was really for the LMG and the rifle is just tagged on baggage.

Even when small arms production was under the purview of the Ord. Dept. it was at least split between different arsenals (both Rock Island and Springfield manufactured M1903s for example). Even if, and that's a big if, all the Sig products see widespread adoption I wouldn't be surprised if the Army gives Sig the Colt treatment and:
A) forces them to allow licensed production with other manufacturers
or
B) gives future contracts to other manufacturers
I don't really find either of these likely considering that the XM7 and all its proprietary accoutrements are likely to be shitcanned in the near future. Considering that not only is the whole NSGW program retarded, its also a product of the Biden-Milley years which this current admin seems keen on cutting (such as the M10).
Also Colt got a contract for more M4s quite recently, so I've got as much faith in the XM7 as I do the DSM-5.

I believe it simply because a lot of things were getting shot at. We hit 1,100 targets in Yemen. Yeah, we're going to get some return fire. Now the quote is:
“They got close enough that the [F-35] had to maneuver,” the official said.
Which more sounds like things were getting hot, but not necessarily full on target lock. Just that they didn't want to take chances. They already had lost 7 MQ-9 Reapers. Better to not risk a F-35. Also mentions of F-16's getting targeted. That i totally believe, no stealth at all lol.

I watched that. I also read the report:
In general its pretty fucking damming. Still this could be a Burton if more reports don't come out. I think more will, but I'm aware of Pentagon Wars and how the Bradley turned into a rape beast despite the protesting. But if accurate... hoo boy. But i do agree, they want the LMG more than anything. That i haven't heard much issues with. Asides from now, ruptured cases.

Under Trump I would expect FUTURE contracts to get shuffled around. Current contracts... eh. That might take time at the very least. A lot of the SIG contracts got started under Trump. Like the Sig P320/M18. That technically is Trump's fault. He started the SIG flood instead of choosing Glock or Beretta (based).

Also They have either shitcanned or massively scaled back current ongoing programs. See here:
The Stryker at the worst case might be retired all together, the AMPV is going to be massively scaled back, the M10 Booker got canned, JLTV and HMMVW procurment is halted, the D model of the Apache is getting divested.

Really only things like the XM-30 and the Abrams M1E3, the Bradley replacement and Abrams overhaul getting kept, since the Bradley and Abrams have been kicking ass. Also theres things like trying to replace the Paladin AGAIN (lol), more long range missiles, drones, all that shit. Also the Valor program is on track:
Bell_V-280_Valor_high_speed_cruise_demo,_2019_Alliance_Air_Show.webp
The Black Hawk is going to fucking rest soon. Maybe. Lets hope it actually fucking works. It'll be based if it actually does.

Honestly it probably had to avoid sucking up a 358 SAM which is an unusual Iranian loitering SAM that's launched off a rail via a rocket then it's turbojet kicks in and it flies along at 300 to maybe 500mph and can loiter in a big figure 8 pattern if there are no targets. Max altitude is estimated to be 10,000 - 12,000 meters. Actual performance specs are unlisted/unknown.

IR guided and can be EO/IR cued so no radar necessary.

It's probably what's been taking out the majority of Reapers and Reaper class drones over Lebanon too.

Stryker will be sticking around as there is no replacement.

Humvee is finally dying off, JLTV Mk2 is getting make but in a low rate manner until 2027 then we'll see. JLTV MK1 already had 10,000+ units made.

AMPV.... Bradley without a turret. Might as well get an XM30 without a turret and move to a brand new common tracked APC/IFV fleet.

The V-280 is officially the MV-75 now bros.

Also, Blackhawk isn't going ANYWHERE, the UH-60M is still being procured and the Seahawk and Special Forces variants of the Blackhawk will need updating.

In general it feels like they want new tech not stuck in past thinking. It's why they're evaluating Stryker. Likely will get reduced. AMPV will get halted for a new platform to replace the M113. JLTV they're going to figure out. They Likely want something less fat. And yeah they'll keep the Blackhawk, but the Valor will be taking up a lot of its roles. We got to get out of Afghanistan technologaly.

JLTV is fat because of its protection requirements.

Meanwhile the Army is also buying the ISV aka a Chevy Colorado military edition as essentially a 2020s version of the OG Jeep.

Back then they had gunpods, unguided rockets, and dumb bombs. Now? Just look at this shit:
Should have just kept making the original, plug in some new electronics, slap in a turboprop (although there is nothing wrong with the good ol corncob radial), use one of the AD-5 variants with side-by-side seating and get to blasting.

Why spend billions on a gay cropduster when you could have the original and best skyraider?

This is actually kind of clever. You don't have a lot of ISR and anything radiating in Yemen probably has a date with a JDAM in its immediate future. It's probably great for taking out drones, and slow aircraft that blunder in it's path. Probably not as effective at taking out fighter aircraft. I wonder what it's loiter time is. It can't be very long.

Credit where credit is due. Even the threat of one of these is enough to deny airspace until someone goes in and clears it.
