You're expected to put global program files that you are going to be modifying in ProgramData at the root, user specific stuff goes into the user's AppData folder. Neither of which require elevation. Not sure why ProgramData is hidden though.
program data is shared, thus requires elevation. appdata is in your user folder, might as well put that shit under my documents, it's equally retarded.

Really? Seems like standard users should have permission to write to that folder (see bottom entry).

Bottom entry doesn't include files, so it's still read only permissions for regular users.
It means you can write to a folder/subfolder? I actually bothered to create a standard account to test this and yes you can in fact write files to ProgramData without UAC elevation so idk wtf either of you are talking about. (see the lack of Administrator under "Local Account"). When I try to create a folder in the Windows directory it asks for my Admin user's password so UAC is working properly.

Just had to upgrade the work laptop to Win 11. What sick twisted fuck thought it'd be a good idea to not let users move the taskbar around the screen, I can't even flatten it to get more screen space back.

The 'jeets. They were the ones to throw out the taskbar as it evolved ever since it was first introduced in Windows 95 and replace it with some piece of shit written in React that doesn't have the feature parity with the fucking Windows 95 taskbar, because the 'jeets know better what you need and they need to change shit just to change it to make the stockholders happy. 99% of people use the default Win10 taskbar settings? Okay, no need to give the user the choice he had for 26 fucking years then.

Oh yeah, the most infuriating thing?

Raymond Chen, the guy that worked on Windows 95, and still works at Microsoft, when encountering people having issues due to them using ExplorerPatcher just to unfuck the 'jeetified taskbar, his first thought wasn't "oh people use it because our taskbar is bad and we should improve it so that there's no reason to use it". No, his reaction was "oh people shouldn't be using this tool because it does things that it shouldn't". Not even the guy who worked on the fucking taskbar as we know it could tell that the new taskbar is so bad it forces people to use tools that break Windows.

might work now (if you're ok with users having access to shared configuration files and praying the app isn't developed by retards), but was exactly the windows permission shit I was talking about.

What a headache. So I guess the expected behavior is to make a sub-folder with lax permissions at the installer level to avoid having to run UAC every fucking time you start the application? Not too bad considering you need UAC to even write to Program Files to begin with.

Hate this shit. 100%. Error sounds now are emblematic of Microsoft's grab at your computer to be Our Computer Now, Bitch, Bend Over For More Updates.

For two decades they understood it's feedback for an "oops". Not a "oopsie doodle did a little fuckey wuckey bo-buckey duckey :))))))". Up to and including 7 it was a little plink that decays to inaudible in under a second. In 10 it's 4+ seconds.

Shut the fuck up!
In a few more releases the Windows alert is going to be sounding like this

work upgraded my laptop to win11 last month
noticeably slower, once all my stuff is open RAM usage is at about 12-13 GB out of 16 total. programs are slower, their shitty file explorer keeps moving the focus to the address bar between the time i make a new folder and the time it prompts me to name it, a standard windows menu bar keeps appearing under it randomly, the whole interface is an edge webview, i hate it. will probably install win 10 iot edition on my gaming pc since that's supported through 2030 or something unless steam decides to drop support next month or something.
i hate pajeets more than you can ever imagine, if orange man revokes all their h1bs and sends them back to india i will forgive him for literally every other wrong he's ever committed and will commit in the future

also fun fact, the whole UI is flat because program managers would make mockups with the square tool in fucking powerpoint and say "make it like that"
but now it's flat with g r a d i e n t s

I wouldn't worry about Steam, it still works on Windows 7 with a set of kernel extensions. Newer games increasingly don't work because of DX12, I assume newer DX12 builds will only operate on Windows 11 so that would likely be a concern for you much sooner than Steam compatibility.

Personally if I want to do higher end PC gaming going forward I am expecting to have a 2nd partition or a 2nd system dedicated to running a SteamOS-like Linux distro like Bazzite.

Pretty (ugly) interface and works like shit (par for the course), literally all Microsoft products nowadays, though server still seems fine (somewhat).
Server is great, and you can use it for free up to three years (the old 2022 version).

I have never really cared one way or the other about Microsoft, as long as my PC works it is fine then I "Upgraded" to Windows 11 and I started getting the blue screen of death two or three times a day,I have not seen that since Windows ME.

I then found a program that fixed the problem, but the fact that unpaid randos on the internet put more work into making windows stable than the people at Microsoft who are paid to make the OS makes me want to go postal.

"Oh no, they're giving me an option to disable all notifications for all programs, toggle individual programs and also give me which notification from Windows Defender I want to get"

"grrr fuck Microsoft fuck da joos fuck da jeets i have to be angry for no reason at everything I hate grrrr"

Fucking hell you shouldn't be using a computer in the first place if such trivial shit manages to rile you up the wall so hard.

And if doing something as simple as using a GUI to manage your notifications where Microsoft is fucking handholding you giving you shortcuts to those options on those notifications like on your screenshot then you shouldn't be using Linux either since the terminal will be waaaay beyond your mental capabilities.

shut up u mossad jew nog putting ur desktop language as polish wont prevent me from seeing through your disguise JEW

If Windows Defender corrupts itself it makes every account into a non-admin type without telling or showing you as such and it detects millions of files as being viruses until it crashes or is just blank forever. Then if you try to fix the problem with their own advice it slowly corrupts your entire PC and forces you to reset your whole PC. Any registry errors or OS problems for some reason means you need to uninstall all of your Applications and settings even though its only an OS issue from a shitty update or misconfiguration. The reset feature is so frustrating.
