So is this like an MMO where it's only online and they would pull the plug if there's a lack of interest like so many online games? I plan on buying it on sale, I'm only mildly upset at Konami.
Apart from functioning as DRM or just as a vestigial left-over from the way MGSV was programmed, I'm honestly not certain what function the always-online aspect serves. Multiplayer is nearly an entirely stand-alone mode completely separate from the core game, as in you need to load into a co-op lobby to even see or hear from other players. Beyond that, you never see other players out-and-about in the world, nor is there any "Defend Mother Base" aspect that I'm aware of.

It almost feels like they tried to jam Tower Defense into a Survival/Crafter, but couldn't be bothered to wander too far away from the core gameplay in MGSV. It's not bad, but once you understand how the AI fights most of the "tower defense" segments end up being more of a waiting game than an actual, frenzied defense. If you're not bothered by all of the he-said she-said nonsense behind the title itself, it's a decent-- if flawed-- title, but I wouldn't recommend going for it unless it was around $15-$20. Unless you're absolutely desperate for a survival game that doesn't particularly fail on any specific front, but still isn't quite certain what exactly it wants to be, you're better off just biding your time until the inevitable sale wanders along.

I’m only about 15 hours into Metal Gear Survive but so far it’s been amazing. It’s fixed a lot of the issues I had with Metal Gear Solid 5.

One of the biggest problems with MGSV was the constant sneaking around for no reason. Sure, you could try to just bust in with guns blazing but they made it hard to do that for the entire game. Some missions even required you to be sneaky, it was pretty gay. This game gives you a lot more options to go balls to the wall which is a lot more fun, sneaking is thankfully a thing of the past.

The story’s a lot better too and is much easier to follow. The entire time during MGS5 I had no clue what was going on and the cutscenes were too long and boring always ranting on about the Soviet Union and Afghanistan, the only bright side was Snake’s voice was awesome. This game has a much more interesting tale and easy to understand story which is great. Also, zombies are way cooler than Russians.

The best addition to the game is Player Choice. There are a lot of boring parts where you’re just wandering around the world and collecting scrap parts and food and it sucks. Fortunately, they gave us the option to pay a few bucks to skip all that shit. If you get killed in a mission, for the price of a cup of coffee you can acquire a revival pill that lets you keep going instead of having to retry the mission. I not only work 10 hours a week at Subway but I also have to help out with household chores, this means some days I have as few as 5 hours a day to play games. Being able to pay money to keep playing is much better than having to waste time trying the mission again with a different strategy.

Overall, I’d say this is probably the best Metal Gear game they’ve ever made and I highly recommend it if you need a break from Call of Duty. Who else has played it?

I don't get it. Apparently they weren't able to finish MGSV, but they were able to make this with all these new cutscenes? Alot of the reviews seem to shit on it for being terrible because of microtransactions and the stabbing zombies and trying to eat and drink. But MGSV has similar microtransactions for extra motherbase slots and team deployment mission time reduction.

I actually had to dig for a review to tell me thats the tutorial missions, and then afterward it turns into a Farmville/Motherbase/Survival Game and the majority of play is supposed to be the co-op tower defense. You can have farming plots and livestock cages so you don't have to hunt for food.

I get the feeling a lot of this stuff, not just the assets, but the ideas and mechanics for base construction, vanity items having extra ammo pouches and stuff were actually in development stuff for MGSV Motherbase Mode.

So if you loved just grinding out stuff for Motherbase in MGSV, you'll probably like this game.

If this game has the DRM everyone says it does, maybe it will cut down on the blatant duping people were doing in MGSV, with hacked weapons and infinite tanks.

MGSV had the ability to pay for it, or you could just wait for Motherbase Coins to be dispensed every now and then.

Me, I never paid a dime, just relied on MB coins.

That's what I've heard from most people playing so far. The single save slot just makes it like MGSV so they are used to it, and the only other thing to pay for are extra vanity loadout save slots and speed up team deployment. So no ones been feeling like spending money is essential at all.

I really think PP should have had some kind of survival/stamina mechanic, like mgs3 did.
mgs3 was incredibly deep in this regard. it had tons of animals and food and some of them even had some kind of special side-effect, such as the mushrooms that could restore youur batteries.

to get the ultimate mgs5 experience, somebody should put together both games mechanics.

I finally finished the single player campaign. It's very much like The Division. You finish the single player game, unlock all your abilities and weapons. Then you get the randomly generate open world side quests with the rescue/collect/kill boss/hunt animal. Then they give you a Fallout 4 style constructable settlement. You build your farms and medical outpost and your fences and turrets out of the junk you've found so far and then you can have a zombie wave attack the base for points to spend on stuff.

Or you can go Fallout 4 style and wander around killing zombies and grabbing toasters and batteries and tin cans and finding chests.

But the main thing once you've finished the game is the co-op base defense game. Where you start off with just what you are carrying and then scavenge an area for parts and build defenses before the zombie wave shows up. With optional side missions for items or walker gears to pilot. Then they reward you with green to orange gear depending on how well you did. Sniper rifles, grenade lauchers, baseball bats with F size batteries and wires on it thats electrified.

It also works on a class system, you have the typical tank, the ranged damage dealer, the medic, and the scavenger/repair guy.
