Okay so update on this: I just flew from Ashville NC to Orlando FL w my .44 mag and had zero problems whatsoever. About the only difference was that I had to hang around the baggage counter for 5 minutes to make sure that the TSA didn't need me to unlock the case, which they didn't. So far, so good. I also mailed a black powder pistol to myself in SoCal without any issues from the dickhead postmaster in NC.

In about a week I'll be flying to Los Angeles with the .44, a .45 and a .30-30. Gotta call LAX and see if they put large gun cases on the baggage carousel, or if you have to go claim them specially (I've heard every airport has different policy and I'm assuming that LAX is going to be more of a PITA about it.)

Final update: Got in to LAX day before yesterday. No problems whatsoever. Everyone at the Virgin-America counter was awesome, and my ticket agent escorted me to the TSA screening area where, if you can believe this, the TSA agents were awesome about the whole process. I did not expect that at all. The baggage handlers didn't mangle my rifle case, and at LAX nobody batted an eye as I grabbed a case full of firearms off the oversize baggage belt and walked out the door.

I was also concerned that I would be charged the exorbitant oversized baggage fee ($75 in addition to the $25 checked bag fee on Virgin-America each way), but they didn't say anything. I think they're much more concerned with weight.

Anyway, that's it. No problems at all.
 
Currently bidding on a Galil SAR parts kit. Hopefully I get it.

If I do get it I'll have to permanently attach a 3 inch muzzle brake to the barrel to make it 16 inches, since the SAR barrel is 13.1 inches and having a SBR without the tax stamp is like a 10 year in pound-me-in-the-ass federal prison.

2 FTEs in 750 rounds of shit ammo, not to bad I think. Only 2 malfunctions I've had.
 
Haven't posted here for a while, so I might as well toss in a little update.

I removed the old stock and pistol grip on my VEPR-12 and gradually fit this on it:

Also put this on the rear to add an inch, also takes the kick out of slugs and 3" loads:

I also replaced the rough, crunchy stock trigger assembly and installed a US made choke adapter (takes Winchester type chokes, has an Improved Cylinder inside right now). The pull is smooth with the new US made assembly (3 922r parts) and now is compliant with any magazine I use. (The stock counts as 1 imported part instead of 2)

It is unbelievably very well balanced with the sniper-style wooden stock on it. Makes it a suitable twin for the PSL I am constructing. I've made decent progress on that, but still no barrel yet. (:_(

Deciding on my second gun. Galil SAR parts kit went to over a grand so I didn't get that. Decided I should get a rifle I could hunt with too as my second firearm.

Was looking at the 22-250, .270, 30-30, .308, and 30-06 calibers for the most part. Most stuff I was looking at is around $200-$400 used, although if I decide on the Howa or Tikka I'll probably have to save some more money.

I'm gonna go ahead and suggest the Marlin 336C (or A). However, try to find one that was made before the Remington buyout of Marlin (It will have "JM" stamped on the barrel instead of "REP"), or if you can't get that, find one that was made as recently as possible. Remington had some... let's say troubles adjusting to production with the tooling that they purchased from Marlin, but i've heard that they've since gotten that under control.

as for caliber... the 336C comes in any caliber you want as long as it's .30-30 or .35 Remington. (the 336A is .30-30 only.) They're not long distance shooters by any means, but my "JM" stamped Marlin 336 in .30-30 is scary accurate out to 150 yards. I've heard that with the Hornady Leverevolution rounds it becomes a 300 yard rifle.

Plus leverguns are just plain fun and reliable.

Yea I know about the whole Freedom Group shenanigans. Despite all that I bought my Marlin Model 60 this year and have had nothing wrong with it other than the stupid plastic trigger guard breaking. Still would go for an older one of course, though.

You can find them but they'll probably cost you a little more in acceptable condition. Most guys who have "genuine" Marlins know what they've got. But like I said i've heard good things about the newer Marlins coming off the line. so as long as the fit and finish are good, i'd say you're in good shape. I personally like the 336A better than the C. I don't care for barrel bands on lever actions, and the A uses a forend cap. as far as I know the only other difference between the A and C is that the A uses hardwood that has a walnut "finish" and the C is solid walnut. I really don't care about that sort of thing.

Also the Mosin Nagant if you can score one of the ones that were packed away in a gallon of grease. I kinda want one of those.

That looks pristine as all hell. I heard the carbines do well with 182 grain heavy ball especially, if you can find it of course.

But above all else, enjoy. Ammo is still cheap, so buy a few cans now when you still can. As for me, I went shooting last weekend, among other things, and will have to post pics and/or a video when my friend gives me the files.
 
My step dad has an Ithaca Featherlight that was custom ordered by his late father back in the 1950's. He actually let me hold it once, making this the first gun I had ever held at the age of 13. It was unloaded both per my request and as a safety precaution, but it was still quite an experience for me.
 
Finally had a chance to go shot my Type 53. Someone actually bitched about it being too loud.

I'm going to order a front sight adjustment tool though, cause even at 25 yard I was shooting about 3-4 inches to the left. The front sight is noticeably to the right on it so I think I need to bring it back to center.

Nice Type 53, Anime Girl. I have a Soviet Mosin I need to adjust as well, after I've done it with my Vepr-12. Speaking of which, I got some sick ass factory magazines for it.

I don't normally sperg out over so much as a magazine, but these are pretty sick 10-shell mags. Expensive, but hopefully they will prove their worth.

I can't disagree with you on that. However, they have not hit the streets yet due to the manufacturer having difficulties with production. SGM Tactical claims that the prototype works, though.

Until then though I will collect more of the big factory magazines.
