UPDATE: So apparently UPS and FEDex both require you to ship firearms from a "customer center", not a branch outlet. that's all well and good, but the nearest FEDex customer center is 20 miles away, and the nearest UPS customer center is 30. So I called The post office. The short version? "NO."

I called the closest post office and spoke to the postmaster. He told me that it wasn't legal to mail any kind of firearm to yourself, and that it had to go to a FFL in the other state. I shared the exact code from the USPS Domestic Mailing Manual that states:

"12.2 Rifles and Shotguns:

Except under 12.1.1d and 12.1.2, unloaded rifles and shotguns are mailable. Mailers must comply with the rules and regulations under 27 CFR, Part 478, as well as state and local laws. The mailer may be required by the USPS to establish, by opening the parcel or by written certification, that the rifle or shotgun is unloaded and not ineligible for mailing under 12.1.1d. The following conditions also apply:

a.Subject to state, territory, or district regulations, rifles and shotguns may be mailed without restriction when sent within the same state of mailing. These items must bear a “Return Service Requested” endorsement, and must be sent by Express Mail (“signature required” must be used at delivery) or Registered Mail, or must include either insured mail service (for more than $200) requiring a signature at delivery.

b. A shotgun or rifle owned by a non-FFL may be mailed outside the owner’s state of residence by the owner to himself or herself, in care of another person in the state, where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. These mailpieces must:

1. Be addressed to the owner.
2. Include the “in the care of” endorsement immediately preceding the name of the applicable temporary custodian.
3. Be opened by the rifle or shotgun owner only.
4. Be mailed using services described in 12.2a.

he said he's never heard of that, and maintained that it's not legal.

THEN, I shared with him DMM 12.3, which states:

"12.3 Legal Opinions on Mailing Firearms

Postmasters are not authorized to give opinions on the legality of any shipment of firearms. Further advice and ATF contact information is available at http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/"
(which, by the way says exactly what DMM 12.2 says.)

He just laughed and said he didn't care, and that If I wanted to call the Postal Inspectors office on him, then I could be his guest.

So I've decided that the USPS, FEDex, and UPS can all just suck each other off. I'll definitely be flying out to CA with them. I'll let you know how that goes.

Okay, I'm getting a 12 gauge pump shotgun next.

H&R Pardner or Stevens 320? The Pardner is a Rem 870 clone and the 320 is a Winchester 1300 clone.

Inb4 Mossberg 500/590, Remington 870, etc, my :tugboat: isn't big enough.

I don't know anything about the clones, but I've shot the 870 a lot, and a 1300 a few times. They both seem really solid, so go with whichever one feels the best in your hands (assuming that the clones are functionally up to par with the shotguns that they are modeled on.)

I love my Marlin. Thing is a nail driver and eats any brand .22lr I feed it. Haven't had a single jam ever.

Big pics incoming.

I had a ruger 10/22 that I loved but gave away as a gift. I was thinking of getting a Marlin 60 to replace it. The only problems I ever had with the ruger was with mags and mag springs wearing out, so the idea of a .22 tubular mag is appealing to me. The only reservations I've had were whether or not it was as accurate or reliable as the ruger, so thanks for your post!

Yea I couldn't be happier with it. I got it for $160 brand new. There's also the Marlin 795, which is more or less the same thing, but uses detachable magazines instead. With that said the Marlin Model 60 is usually rated a little bit higher than the Model 795 because

-Marlin doesn't make any magazine for it over 10 rounds. There are some 3rd party mags for it that are bigger but I don't know how great those are
-As you might expect, the Model 795 is a LITTLE more picky with ammo.

But that said both are great alternatives to a Ruger 10/22 if customizing isn't your biggest concern. I don't think really any rifle outside of an AR15 has the 10/22 beat in sheer amount of aftermarket parts for it.

those hipoints are fugly and heavy as shit. But damned if they don't work. (plus, when you run out of ammo you could probably kill someone w it if you threw it at their head and connected.)

Yea my father has a Hi Point C9, and it's an ugly brick but it goes bang every time and is accurate enough, I like it.

Also I have a weird fascination for cheap pocket pistols/revolvers. I would totally buy like 10 .25ACP pocket pistols right now if I could.

I don't know, Anime Girl, as range toys or a backup piece, they might be all right. But you probably couldn't kill an opponent if you shot him in the eye with one. Besides, I haven't seen ammo for it in the shops for a while. If I decide on a handgun, I'm not sure what kind I'd want, anyway. The .45 ACP sounds appealing enough. But anything that's not a Deagle will be fine, because Deagles are unrealistic and gay. :jace:

Also, my dad owns a Marlin 60 and it's nice enough. Sure as shit can't find food for it at the moment, though. That's why I got a shotgun instead.

I posted this in chat but fuck these shitty plastic trigger guards Marlin uses now.

I have to fly back to southern California in about a month and for the first time, I'll be flying with a firearm. Has anyone done this? (hopefully specifically to LAX?)

I've read the ATF, TSA and my airlines posted rules about this. It seems like it's actually not that big of a hassle. I'm just wondering if it's going to be one of those things where the people on the ground are so ignorant of official policy that they turn it into a complete nightmare.
Okay so update on this: I just flew from Ashville NC to Orlando FL w my .44 mag and had zero problems whatsoever. About the only difference was that I had to hang around the baggage counter for 5 minutes to make sure that the TSA didn't need me to unlock the case, which they didn't. So far, so good. I also mailed a black powder pistol to myself in SoCal without any issues from the dickhead postmaster in NC.

In about a week I'll be flying to Los Angeles with the .44, a .45 and a .30-30. Gotta call LAX and see if they put large gun cases on the baggage carousel, or if you have to go claim them specially (I've heard every airport has different policy and I'm assuming that LAX is going to be more of a PITA about it.)

I need to build a couple AR15s in the next year or so, one carbine and one pistol. If nothing else than I enjoy building them.

I'm planning on building at least 2 Galils soon when I can get the money together.

I was planning on buying a Galil rifle receiver then using a IMI Galil ARM parts kit, then a Galil 'pistol' receiver and a Galil SAR parts kit.

I just found out recently that there is a company that makes US made Galil receivers for about $250, and a parts kit can be had for about $650. so after FFL transfer and taxes I could have a non- Century Galil for about $1000. I've been wanting a legit IMI Galil for as long as I can remember, but they haven't been able to import any since 922 import ban shit so legit Galils start at like $2500.

I'm hoping that now the Tavor is available in the US that they'll soon make the Galil ACE available too, especially the 7.62x39mm and 7.62x51mm models. Galils are nice.

Yea I was hoping IMI would realize they would make a good amount of money if they started producing Galil ACEs here too. I don't know how well that Uzi pistol they also produce here is selling but the Tavor seems to be doing well.
