Hello folks, been considering getting one of those .22 Conversion kits for my AR to save on ammo costs when shooting the thing. The thought of possibly being able to use my already existing rifle for .22 instead of buying a whole new one is also a big plus.

Anyone have experience with them? Are they reliable and accurate enough to replace a dedicated .22, or are they junk? Would you trust using one for small game? Are there any issues with the kits you haven't seen talked about elsewhere?

None of them are particularly "good" or "reliable" however, none of them cost enough to expect properly good and reliable. So that's fine, just don't throw it away of you do get one just because it isn't a perfect machine.

Frankly, shooting .22 for practice is a great idea, but you aren't getting much out of doing it specifically from an AR platform. You can dryfire with it already and practice weapons handling with it without live ammo.

If it will motivate you to shoot, go for it.

I sometimes wish the Japs are able to have actual Firearms like we have in the States. This one got the poverty pony logo engraved onto his lower (Link 1) (Link 2) (Link3)

Does anyone have that pic of the boomers complaining on their mg forum that they didn't want machine guns to be deregulated because they would lose money, it was from the hearing protection act days.
I remember posts from the early 2000s with the same complaints. They've always been like this.

It's better to get a dedicated .22 upper and swap it out if you're dead-set on using your AR for .22. Not a bad idea these days as uppers are cheaper than ever. Those drop-in conversion kits were always kinda cheesy.

The drop in .22lr conversion kits will gum up your gas port and potentially the block and tube as well. Get the CMMG dedicated barrel and bolt if you're going to build it yourself or just get one of their uppers. That doesn't have any gas port to worry about and the general reliability is going to be better given it's purpose built for 22

I started with a conversion then it became dedicated later.

The grey upper is dedicated.

A dedicated AR also doesn't need a buffer tube.
Also get the "Better Mag Adapter" from redi mag and use The S&W mags.
You get LRBHO that way.

I need some advice on my AUG. I really want to grab a red dot for my AUG A3. I've been considering a canted mount on the side of the receiver, but I am not sure if a brass deflector would be enough to not have the casings knock my teeth in. Any other AUG owners out there that tried this out? I am on a bit of a budget and don't want to buy a brass deflector unless this actually works, if it doesn't I'll just save myself the cash and mount the red dot on the scope rail.

Got bored so I'm making an AR-15 FRT compatible Franken-STEN out of spare parts.

Originally, I wanted to mount the receiver tube to a standard AR lower, but it was too much work to sort out the buffer system. Instead, I made my own lower out of steel flat stock. In order for the hammer to clear the recoil spring, the system needs to be rotated 90 degrees so it will feed from the side via PPS-43 magazines.

>Sa-26 trunnions, barrel, and bolt
>Type 54 pistol grip, trigger guard and magazine well
>CETME C sites (maybe? I don't have anything else on hand)
>Chinese Amazon DOM tubing

Not sure what I'm going to do for the stock yet. I have a spare Sa-26 folding stock, but it can't be secured in the folded position because the FCG housing gets in the way. Alternatively, I have a bunch of loose AK stocks. I think that would look bad though so I'm open to suggestions

It's a toob, innit?

It needs a Poopmadness inspired name.

I have thousands of rounds on my CMMG. Groups open up like crazy after 25 yards because of the twist rate difference so I wouldn’t trust one for hunting personally. They’re good if you just want to practice the manual of arms on your main AR without spending too much. Don’t worry about concerns about the fouling plugging up your gas port since the next centerfire shot out of it will just blast all the crap out. Mine is perfectly reliable even with FRT’s after I set it up properly with some stuff from BoreBuddy.

With FRTs, we have machine guns as well.

I need someone to talk me out of getting a Honey Badger in 300 brown out. I know I can get a DDM4 which will leave me extra money for a can but something about the gun just seems like the way to go. I know SIG Sauer has some options but their QC is trash and I will not buy a gun from them after my 762 Patrol. I'm tossed up between a pistol or SBR because of the laws in my state, I doubt I will have it in my vehicle often so a two stamp gun is probably where I'm leaning. The $700 difference could cover most of the cost of a can. I have a bunch of lowers waiting for new homes, maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Like an actual Q honey badger or your own build? I'd only go for Q if you are into their products specifically. A lot of people have issues with Q, and especially the owner, but the few Q guns i've handled (never seen a fix) have seemed pretty well built, just retardedly expensive.

PSA makes a honey badger clone and the parts if you want a cheaper option. I've always had good luck with PSA AR parts.

Should i get a H&R DOE 9mm and FRT it? I think I should.

I'm seriously thinking of getting the H&R Colt 607 or possibly the 607 lower with an XM177 upper hybrid and putting an FRT in it. I'll probably go for just the 607 repro. I really like the early collapsible stock on the 607 that looks like a shorty version of the normal M16 stock over the CAR-15 style stock on the XM177, and also like the cut-down M16 triangular handguards on the 607, but I also like the longer barrel and longer flash hider/M203 mounting ring on the XM177E2. Maybe if I do the hybrid build (because I'm sure there was some SEAL or MACV-SOG operator during Vietnam who had access to both carbines and liked the 607 stock, but the XM177 upper and made his own hybrid by swapping uppers) then maybe I'll buy a set of the triangular shorty handguards and put it on the XM177 upper. Kinda like the Colt 607 got iterated upon more in it's original form instead of evolving into the XM177 and CAR-15 family. I don't care about keeping it historically accurate for the most part. Hell, I'm probably going to put a red dot or possibly compact ACOG on it to make it more "usable".

I've got a stripped Lancer L15 lower that I'm planning on building up with a Cloak Industries MFR 56 belt-fed upper (a Turkish made clone of the Fightlite/ARES Shrike upper that's actually in use with the Philippines Marines) and their FRT that is specially designed to work with their upper.

SBR'd and suppressed, of course, for the belt-fed, and SBR'd and with a real sound modulator for the retro carbine.

that sounds like it could be fun. I've just fell out of love with 5.56mm AR builds. hell, it's probably been near 10 years since i even had a passing interest. about all I'm interested in now are the eccentric calibers or builds.
