It's all good, I don't really have a religion myself, I guess I live as my own god. Autocorrect does some funny shit. I also know someone who has family in Utah, and actually my dad almost moved us there once.

But yeah, the 1911 is hard to go wrong with. I have this debate with a friend of mine sometimes, but I would rather have a firearm in .45 ACP than 9mm, all other things being equal. But wow Dude you probably have a ton of artillery, as far as my builds go I'm going to arrange to do some welding at my buddy's place next Sunday. You're gonna fuck up somewhere on your first build, you know.

And also, another buddy knows a guy who can help with heat treating my receivers. I'm going full retard (strength) on these.

How much is the AUG going to be as a whole?
 
$2300 for the rifle, $475 for the rail system, $500 for a spare barrel, about $450 for all the mags I want, plus however much the optics will set me back.
 
The 1911 is probably my favorite handgun design. As long as I slightly extend the slide release, it fits my hand perfectly. And I know some people don't really like the grip safety, but it's light enough that it'll never be a bother unless you're trying to shoot the gun while holding it between two fingers.

They teach you in self-defense pistol courses not to use the slide release. You instead pull the slide back and let it go like if you were initially chambering a round. The reason being is It's more of a gross muscle movement, whereas trying to hit the slide release is a fine muscle.movement and in a high stress situation your fine muscle skills will go all to hell. Plus trying to find a 4mm long piece of metal in a gun fight is next to impossible.
 
I'm going to need optics for my rifle. I'm thinking of either an Trijicon SRS, EOTech EXPS3 or Aimpoint Comp M4s. I'm also considering a Browe Combat Optic, 3x Trijicon ACOG and IOR Valdada Pitbull for magnified optics. Any opinions on this? All three are built to military standards and are rugged.

That's why I aim for longer slide releases, since I can simply flick my thumb up and down with little conscious effort. It's also one of the reasons I utterly despite the slide release on Glocks; it's like they didn't even try.

I've been through so many pistol courses that I never use the slide release. I can pretty much shoot any handgun with equal proficiency, including revolvers.

I really prefer the slide release for the speed and hand placement of it, because as soon as the magazine is in I can near-simultaneously flick the slide release down and bring my left hand up into the correct grip and begin firing again. With a pull on the slide itself, I need to remove my left hand from the grip to pull it. I only like to do that if the slide release isn't easily accessible, like on a Glock.

You don't have to remove your hand. Once the fresh magazine is in just keep the heel of your support hand against the grip, pivot your hand at the heel, wrap your fingers around the slide, tug it back, then release while simultaneously pivoting your hand back around the grip. It takes just a little practice and once you get it down you'll be much faster than using the slide release. Honestly, the slide release is a huge liability in a fight.
 
I've fired pistols before myself, just never really had much of an interest in owning one, probably because of the ammo shortage mainly. I've done a S&W Sigma 9mm and a .380 ACP of some sort that my friend owns. They're all right, but I'm more into rifles personally. Maybe later on. :)

I'm still saving up for my Saiga 12 and looking around for component ideas. I am considering that if I can't find a decent "sporter" stock made of wood like in the image, I could convert it and use a stock set not unlike this.

It'll be like my PSL build's short-range cousin AUGH YEAH

Both ideas sound intriguing. And I have gotten good at refinishing a furniture set.

Did you finally get that AUG? Looks badass. I'm still working on locating a Saiga or Vepr in 12 gauge. I reconsidered getting a pump instead, but, LOL. Nah.

This weekend, I'm going to a friend's house to get help welding my receivers.
 
So just as a follow up for The Dude. I took your advice and bought a box of these:

They're advertised at "1526 fps out of a Ruger Vaquero LARGE FRAME PRE 2006, 5.5 inch", which is (as you know) exactly what I fired them out of. You know... even though I absolutely believe that claim, it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd expected. I definitely wouldn't want to go through a whole box of 20 in one go, but it wasn't any worse (or at least not much worse) than my 629 in 44 mag. (what? I like revolvers.)
 
No shame in liking wheelguns. I prefer them to automatics a lot of the time. I plan on getting a few in the near future.
