Also, I bought a new hard pistol case yesterday when I picked up my Mark 23. It's not quite as nice as a Pelican case, but it offers many of the same features, is much nicer than the cheap Plano cases and the plastic cases my pistols came in, and it's large enough to accommodate both my handguns plus one spare magazine each.

I like the wood and steel stuff best myself, preferably in the form of a semi-automatic rifle. That is a good case, and I like the Mark 23 you got. Nice wood grips there, too.

If anyone knows where I can pick up maybe a last case or two (before the pre-election panic buys) or 7.62x39 at a reasonable price, that would be cool. I went to SGAmmo to try to pick up some Barnaul Mil-Spec with lacquered case and sealed neck/primer, but it went out of stock while I was working. Hopefully it comes back in a little while.

I've been mostly investing in 54R and components for my PSL build, so I've sadly been neglecting the AK stuff. I have a barrel blank I need to get measurements for and send off at some point, and a different part I need is due soon.

While the Golden Tiger and Barnaul are close to the military specs, anything will honestly work for simple blasting.

The pistol with the grips is a SIG P226, and the grips are actually a synthetic material called G10. The Mark 23 has an all polymer frame and grips.

As far as ammo, check out ammunitiontogo.com They usually have good prices and a decent selection.

It's on the agenda. I'll probably be getting SilencerCo Osprey cans for them. I also want to get 5.56mm and 7.62mm rifle cans and a .22lr can. But right now I'm focusing on getting my firearms, magazines, and optics. I've got one more pistol to buy (probably an HK VP9 or CZ SP-01 9mm) as my concealed carry sidearm, and then I'll be getting my rifle optics. The sound suppressors will have to wait until after Mrs. Dude and I buy our house.

I was looking at the idea of getting a suppressor and creating subsonic 7.62x54R, but trying to find something that would look good on my PSL build in progress is a bit of a challenge. It's got 14mm left hand threads, I lucked out and found a threaded brake for it, so I'm going to have all the bells and whistles of the original military build, with some improvements on the inside. Believe it or not, this design has potential, and is a suitable SVD substitute (they aren't imported to the US anymore, sadly). I know a guy who works in a machine shop, and he's quite the asset to have in this build, as I may need a component or two I can't create myself.

As far as anything goes, I urge anyone and everyone, magazines first. This political climate may not allow us much time to get everything we want, sad as it is to say. I'm set on 54R and PSL magazines, and getting some Croatian AK magazines soon, they're new 2016 production and I hear they're great for the price.

Shooting the navy colt. Eventually I'll get a conversion kit, but for now she is my sweet yet annoying to clean baby.

there's a pretty good amount being returned or refunded so finding one for cheaper should be possible quite easily. i have a small pile of them that was turned into me from a few local police departments to look over for "problems" out of paranoia. admittedly some had a few issues with delamination but those are easily remedied. i think a used XPS2 is going for $200 or so.

Black powder looks fun! So much smoke, makes me wonder how anyone in the Civil War era could tell if they actually hit anything! Then again, the volley fire tactics that were used with muskets were still in play, although rifling made it far more effective. Speaking of cartridge conversion, I'm not sure 100% what the first cartridge based firearm was in the American Civil War, but I'm sure the revolvers showed the potential of such a system. Having to reload each chamber with powder, cap, and shot during a battle, no thanks!

Not a half bad purchase, I hear those types of sights can go for more. Personally I've thrown around the idea of a PK-AW for my Vepr-12, but I want to buy some more magazines for certain firearms and cartridges/reloading supplies before any optics.

Straight black powder. Sorry I should have specified it's a percussion (hence the conversion comment). I mostly shoot black powder (snider .577 the most) with a few smokeless here and there (I'm a sucker for an anshutz)

LOL was editing my post during your reply. Black powder sounds fun, but right now I've been wrapped up in getting some more modern stuff together, so to speak. The Anschutz looks expensive as fuck, for a .22 LR they better be well made!

And .577 Snider reminds me of those Nitro Express rounds I've heard about. Looks like it has a lot of power. I've heard of the .577/.450 Martini-Henry, it's pretty strong in itself and looks like a necked down Snider, come to think of it.

I mostly stick to 7.62x54R for now, it's my personal favorite overall.
 
@Duke Nukem .577 is a military round so a big bullet that's slow (and it's black powder). The nitro express is smaller bullet, more powder, faster and smokeless.

Anshutz are all over the price range. My first competitive anshutz when I was 11 was a couple grand (thankfully I didn't have to buy it). My current I got for $125 cnd at a local gun show. She shoots like a dream though and is dirt cheap to shoot, probably my only firearm I buy ammo instead of reload my own. .22s are just so perfect for rabbit and grouse.

I'm down with 7.62s but it's just to modern for my tastes.
 
Black powder is a hoot I only have 2 and both repo's but I'm trying to keep away... and get more into it. 44-40 is pretty gnarly even by today's standards loaded hot.

With those big clouds from volley fire that's main reason people had some pretty dare say, loud uniforms only way to see each other in those bright colors or more so look through clouds from a generals hilltop.

I'm tempted with after the EOtech drama to snag one for a beater AR, just for bling/trolling.
 
@Bassomatic repro are awesome. Uberti makes some great stuff. Even originals can be cheap too though if you aren't getting crazy fancy.

Both of mine are Uberti and thankfully friend showed me ins and outs with BP. Being a history geek I do want to grab some originals at some point. The to buy list only grows no matter how many I buy.

Scour online forums. Most of mine are from "canadian gun nutz". The problem is, like you said, you always want more.

My list right now is a Nepalese snider (it would be my 6th snider). The Nepalese are random and cobbled together but I find them charming. Plus if it's good enough for the Gurkha's it's good enough for me.

Then one day a Broom Handle mauser. My friend has an original and it's a dream to shoot.

Maybe a non function liberator, but even a new one I wouldn't risk shooting but they are intetesting.

And why the hell not, a sharps 1859 carbine with the coffee grinder in the butt.

Again, mostly a dream list, but he'll I never thought I'd have an original S+W hand ejector with WW1 provenance but I do now. A girl can dream right...?
 
Well I wanted to break the cycle of AR's falling into my lap (woe is me) and get an AUG since @The Dude has fully supported my lusting over them and to finally do it, but now a 375 H&H has come to the table from a friends uncle and I've wanted ANYTHING H&H for ever and esp 375. Granted if these are the worse problems we deal with life is pretty good.

Somewhere out there (i've seen it on 4chan's /k/) video of my buddy mag dumping his broom handle wit a stock, pulls his second out of the stock for a mag dump. Many lulz.

Get the AUG. With the unsure political climate you may not be able to buy one in the near future. However, a .375 H&H rifle should be decently available after any hypothetical AWB 2 gets passed since they're just hunting rifles.
