Yeah, the Daisy* comes with a peep sight rear, and a globe front sight with different inserts (it's supposedly "the most accurate BB gun made"). Now, in terms of Guns, i'm a recently "reformed liberal" so I don't have much practical knowledge on peep sights, but I like them well enough. Certainly seems to cut down on the time it takes to line up everything on a target. I suspect it's more of a personal choice than anything though. If the iron sights are lousy, i'd say it's definitely worth looking into.

Gotta say, I don't think there's an ugly Vepr or PSL that i've seen. Handsome rifles.

*As an aside I think it's pretty funny that Daisy made the first modern production rifle that used caseless ammunition, the Daisy V/L. They made them from 1968-69, when the ATF labeled it legally a firearm, which Daisy doesn't have a license to make. My uncle showed me some rounds once, and they're pretty goofy (not my picture, mind you);

I think at least some Olympic shooters use peep sights, as I believe optics are disallowed. I've never had any serious problems with iron sights, the first rifle I used was a single-shot bolt action .22 at an intro to shooting class, and though the sights were crude it wasn't hard to learn on. Everyone serious about shooting well should start with something similar in my opinion, it makes the user not want to waste his shot. People complain about AK sights though due their crude simplicity so I dunno how the PSL would do without a nice piece of glass.

You can still find the VL cartridges on GunBroker occasionally, I'll have to see if they've got any YouTube videos of it in action. There have been at least a few experimental firearms that use caseless ammunition, the Heckler and Koch G-11 is probably the best known example. It was declared a success, but the program was no longer needed due to the Cold War coming to a close. It still makes occasional movie and game appearances due to its sci-fi look though.

And the 4.73mm caseless round up close

I would have gotten a Vepr rifle in 7.62x54R and gotten Dragunov wood for it if I didn't already have the kit for the PSL, if you want a PSL get an original Romanian one if you can, they're generally better made than the ones assembled on parts kits in the US. If you roll your own, parts are going up in price and magazines are not easy to find, either, although I grabbed quite a few when they weren't so bad in price or quantity. I have to finish the receiver blank and send my Shilen barrel blank to be worked on, but I'm just doing what I can when I can, and when time/funds allow.

The Vepr shotguns are great, better than the Saigas in my opinion, and easier to add furniture to. There's a lot you can do with them, really. And the best part is that 12 gauge can be found anywhere, though I'm considering a shotshell reloading press for creating my own loads. I'm curious about how a .72 caliber musket ball would do. (12 gauge bore diameter is .729")

Well I got my Mk14 together. Still waiting on the Vortex flash suppressor and the gas system shim kit. I'll be getting the chassis CeraKoted in the next week or two depending on funds.

Here's how The Bitch looks so far.

Great job, it's really coming along! What color are you going to get? Also, what do you have in mind for optics, if anything? By the way, drum magazines exist for the M-14 variants if that interests you.

I'll be CeraKoting the chassis in Burnt Bronze. I will be removing a few parts before it's refinished to keep them black so it'll have a two-tone look. I know about the drums. Beta makes a C-Mag for the M14/M1A that aren't very reliable, and X Products makes a 50rnd drum that is based off the Heckler and Koch drum for the G8 version of the HK11 LMG. I'm planning on getting at least one X Products drum for my Mk14 and for my LMT MWS308.

I've heard of X Products before, never used anything from them, but they have a good reputation. At least more than the Beta C-Mag, which looks cool if nothing else. I've got some Lahti MG magazines and plans for adapting them to the PSL myself, good thing I know a place that sells them dirt cheap. I'm sticking to 7.62x54R until it runs out, or is too expensive to be worth it. I may need to get some more reloading brass and other supplies before that happens.

Whats a hilariously shitty gun that I can gag-gift to a gun enthusiast who I'm close friends with

Browning HP.

Or a Ruger, if you really hate him and want to see his fingers die.

the Browning/FNH Hi Power is a fairly decent gun - a little dated, but very nice, especially the Canadian ones from Inglis. Ruger pistols are equally nice typically.

if you want to troll someone into weird collectible guns, gift a Nambu Type 94 (if he's knowledgeable), or any Ring of Fire (Jennings, Bryco, et c) pistol if he isn't up to speed. endless "amusement" for firearms enthusiasts.

if it's strictly as a gag-gift and you want him to remain a friend afterwards, any Airlite S&W J-frame like the 340 or 360 and a box of quality defensive .357 Magnum rounds like 125gr DPX will be very trollish as it's quite a nice pistol... that absolutely hates the shooter. i'm sure he'll develop an appreciation for .38 spl afterwards i'm sure. it will not be cheap though.

if he's the type to also laugh along with you, a Ladysmith 3913 in white and nickel might be amusing, practical, and fun as well as budget friendly.

if he's more the type to want a polymer super capacity pistol with all the gubbins tacked on and stipled and what not, get an S&W 4043... an unpopular pistol in an increasingly unpopular cartridge that's otherwise a wonderfully inexpensive shooter you can bet the farm on and come out winning.

sorry for all the S&W references, i work on them very frequently and have been shooting them for decades.

A Hi-Point, Lorcin, or Masterpiece Arms.
Hi Point and Masterpiece are alright mostly. Lorcin (and Raven and Jiminez, forgot about them along with Jennings and Bryco) is mostly garbage though. i'm sure there's some terrible Vulcan/Hesse/Blackthorn or Special Weapons stuff out there... but i assume for a prank he isn't looking to maim or kill his friend.

Just a little update on my Mk14 project: my Vortex flash suppressor arrived today and I lightly threaded it on just to see how it's going to look. I'm still waiting on the shim kit for the gas system to arrive before I torque everything down properly. I must say that I really like the way the Vortex flash suppressor looks on my rifle. If memory serves me right, the Vortex was designed specifically for the original Mk14s built for the Navy SEALs. To paraphrase a movie quote: it really ties the rifle together.

Vortex DC was made by SEI for the Mk14 Mod 0 specifically for QD suppressors. you already have the GLFS but the older P/N 2076 gas plug.

Hey, don't go knocking Masterpiece Arms. My top-cock M-10, pain in the ass as it is to lug around, shoots better groupings than my old Para 1911.

really loving the 91/30 i got a few weeks back, and i'm considering getting an aftermarket stock. the archangel stocks seem very comfy, but i've read there are some problems getting those magazines to feed. i also like the centerbalance stocks, but they're more expensive than the gun itself. is a new stock even worth getting? i took a little bit of tung oil to it some time after the pic was taken but should i just completly refinish the wood stock?

i've found ATI magazines to be decent quality. the molded stock is hit or miss however - sometimes visibly warped, missing inletting for the cartridge interrupter, left over flash that should be trimmed, and so on. inspection and fitting should always be done.

personally, i like the look and feel of the Rhineland Arms Leopard stocks on Mosin-Nagant rifles. very clean, and well made.

My new Madsen M50 smg.
Madsens are nice SMGs. a low enough fire rate to be extremely controllable. i find the placement of the safety to be very awkward though.

i almost forgot about those! they're very nice looking, and the only ones they have are unfinished so i could hypothetically stain it myself.

An actual transferable Madsen? Sweet, dude! I don't have anything that cool in my collection. Maybe one day I'll get a transferable full-auto, but for now I'll just have to be satisfied with my semi-autos.

The GF and I celebrated our 4-year anniversary today the Murican way and shot some guns. Went down to an indoor range that offered rentals and plinked away for a couple of hours. She shot a Smith & Wesson M&P 22C, and I shot a Sig P238 before switching over to a CZ P07. We both had a blast and I now want that CZ in my life.

Nice. I have a 1942 Izhevsk 91/30, a 1944 Sako M39, and a 1954 Hungarian M44. I've never used any aftermarket stocks though.

Well, since I've got my Mk14 MOD 0 finally complete I figured I'd take a few updated photos of my collection.

I'll be adding a new pistol to my collection by the end of the month. I've decided the Heckler and Koch Mark 23 is the .45 ACP pistol for me. I've lusted after the SOCOM for years, and now I've got the chance to finally have one for myself.
