I'd love to have a Luger carbine, but they are DAMN expensive.

it's typically easier to SBR a factory made pistol. for the KRISS Vector, i've done a few SBR registrations, but it will void the warranty unless you pay KRISSUSA to do it for you. they say it's because of how the barrel is installed, which does not make sense to me as it is not pinned on the post-sample, SDP, or CRB i have - it's just threaded into the trunnion and then held in place by grooves the side plates. perhaps they are covering themselves. it does take some minor work to fit a stock on the SDP, the CRB merely needs the barrel trimmed to length, recrowned, and refinished.
as for the P.08 carbine, talk to Neil at Kustom Ballistics for a quote. he does excellent work, and while expensive, it isn't out of reach for most as he can build them as a rifle from the shop, or if you give him an existing one, perform the form 1 for you to form 4 later. expect $3k+ for a very nice example.
9mm AR-15's are getting quite popular these days as well. personally i would get one prior to an MPX unless the MPX takes either UZI magazines or MP5/HK54 magazines as both of those are extremely popular an inexpensive on the open market.
surplus UZI mags are $10 and have been working fine since the 70's. HK54 magazines are a little more money but are equally very prevalent. while i agree that Lancer Systems makes great things, a proprietary magazine for one gun is kind of an issue when a working alternative is widely available and has a proven track record of function. if you don't mind the magazine pretty much only working with that particular firearm, then it's a non-issue.The MPX does take proprietary magazines made by Lancer, but the price isn't bad. About the same as a 33rnd GLOCK G18 mag. So I'll be paying about the same price for magazines either way. I love the way both weapons feel, but the Vector does have the edge as far as aesthetics.
Edit: scratch that. Looks like the MPX mags are about $15- $20 more than G18 mags. But they're made by Lancer, and Lancer makes some high quality magazines.
i agree that the polymer cladding is prone to deformation, but the sub frame is steel and aluminum and is both strong and rigid; and overall the weapon is fairly tolerant of abuse. i've seen a lot of broken stocks and upper receivers though because the upper receiver's stock hinge is flimsy and prone to deformation. i greatly dislike the "CRB" gen 1 stock and wish they kept the pre-production stock that was a single solid piece with a steel lock up at hinge plate. why they switched it out i have no clue. the gen 2 stock is equally pathetic.Id build an ar or get the sig. I dont think the vectors are very rugged and I've seen a lot of pics of broken ones.

i'm sure it's a fine range toy, and it's only slightly less modular than an AR. the AR-15 gets very "same as the first" when you've handled/built/fired thousands of them (trust me i know). i have a sadly discontinued TPD AXR (which i prefer still over the MSAR and the A1 and A3 imports) which was a wonderful firearm, but i think the cost combined with it just being a "weird" gun that people aren't really looking for spelled the end of it. many shooters do like the AUG, but the price just doesn't sit well when an AR-15 or AK is sometimes less than a 3rd the price.Normally I'd agree with you, but I'm not wanting to go with a purely AR design. For the most part it'll be a range toy. If I need a compact fighting weapon I'll grab my Steyr AUG. The MPX is close enough to an AR to be familiar, but different enough for me to not feel like I'm just buying another AR. I also like how modular the MPX is and that I can run it as a pistol all the way up to a 16" carbine, and run several calibers on one platform.

range toys are quite fun and and i fully encourage horribly impractical firearms just because they are interesting and different, and ultimately fun to shoot.

not sure if those folding sights are plastic or that's just the paint, but gas blocks tend to get pretty hot with a string of shooting and i've seen more than one set of Magpuls and Diamondheads melt pretty badly on the bench. between your choices for a "cheap red dot", i would vote for the Vortex - better warranty for the money asked. there's also Lucid, Primary Arms, Hakko, and RSR. about the $250 mark buys you a whole lot of optic for the money asked.Took my new 16" AR15 to the range this morning. Ran like a champ. I'll probably replace the cheap red dot with a Vortex or Holosun this Black Friday.
they both are gas piston delayed blow back, yes, although the steel frame of a P7 can get hot, even with the heat shield they added later on. after a string of slow fire (about 3 mags) the same area on the CCP stays a bit cooler thanks to the polymer not conducting heat as easily. unfortunately it felt to me that it stayed hotter longer than the P7 does.Fun fact about it, it's delayed blow back, because zeee Germans make it correct or they make it correct. I'm not too thrilled with the trigger but for a sub compact it's not bad. HKP7's (my dad collects) are also delayed blow backs.
Why the fuck would he willingly do that?Story, so my friend is moving to a no carry state.
