Another thing I will say is that it does feel a bit weird to be playing a Mega Man game in widescreen, especially considering that not even the game right before it was in that format (borders notwithstanding). It makes the levels feel a lot bigger than in past classic games, and granted that is the case, but no other game has allowed you to see that much from a distance.

Lately I've been playing Block Man's stage over and over with just the uncharged Mega Buster and without the Double Gear System. While I am no Mega Man god like guys like RoahmMythril, I have been able to make it through the second mini-boss without taking a hit (#humblebrag). Also, people are claiming that Block Man's open-palmed slam in his giant form is impossible to dodge when he's up close. What I've found is that the strategy is to stay close to him as much as possible when he's giant. Sometimes just a jump won't be enough to dodge his slam attack, but if you notice his hand does aim for you. The key here is to slide away from him if he doesn't leave you much room between him and the wall. I've done it multiple times without getting hit.

And believe me, it is possible to play through the stage without using the DGS even once. If other levels follow a similar design philosophy as Block Man's does (which is very likely to be the case), if you're decent enough at the game you won't even know the DGS is there in the first place.

How does the X Series new compilation compare with the old ps2 one?

I don't have any experience with the PS2/GCN collection, but the new collections are basically just the Mega Man X series ported to the current-gen platforms. Both the old and new collections contain the first six games, but while the (NA-exclusive) old one has Battle & Chase (a classic spin-off title for the PS1 that originally wasn't released in NA), the new one just has X7 and X8. The old one also has the PS1 version of X3 (with the FMV cutscenes and arranged soundtrack) while the new one has the original SNES version with that good ol' 16-bit guitar. And the new collections contain this extra mode called "X Challenge," in which you go through predetermined gauntlets that involve fighting two Mavericks from the first six games at once (e.g., Chill Penguin and Frost Walrus, Storm Eagle and Storm Owl, etc.)

Oh, and X6 in the old collection keeps the Japanese songs but removes the Japanese voice acting, whereas the same game in the new one keeps the voice acting but replaces the songs with new instrumental tracks. And X5 in the old one keeps the Guns N' Roses Maverick names from the original NA release while X5 in the new one actually localizes the original Japanese names.

...and X4 in the new one removes the Nazi salute in the intro.

I think that about covers it.

I thought that the demo was very strong and a good indicator for how the rest of the game will turn out. The Double Gear system allowed me to approach some platforming sequences with a modicum of forgiveness without breaking the game. I also used it to power up my charges for the second phase of the boss, but I still had to make sure that I could hit the weak spot, so it looks like they've found the right amount of balance (at least in the demo). Some people might not like how the bosses have different phases since, as far as I can tell, that is something the classic MM series has stayed away from (I know latter X games embraced that technique), but it did an effective job of extending the boss fight. I get the feeling that some fans will think the boss fights last too long as a result. And the controls feel as precise as they ever have been. Hopefully I'll be able to say the same about the full game.

This demo defintey makes me long for the days when kids games were allowed to be hard without being "the niggo souls of 'x'"

I tried and having easier difficulty and Double Gear help with shaking the rust off somewhat and made easier for someone like me who's not too good at Megaman

The way speed gear works in MM11's platforming defintely reminds me of slow-mo in Viewtiful Joe or the Witch Time puzzles in Bayonetta, where it feels like a necessary mechanic, instead of a babby easy mode that breaks the game

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/20...n_mega_man_11_is_leaving_some_players_unhappy Here's some stupid. Megaman PU(boy does it smell that way too) is proof that gangweeders of the modern age have been spoiled. At least MK11 isn't trying to turn boss intros into shitty cutscenes https://youtube.com/watch?v=hoENAVmCm68
Though, I will say that the music is in like 6.5/10 territory and the piano DLC better be of this quality https://youtube.com/watch?v=wNngHU3H264
The pre-fight cutscenes in Powered Up/Zero/X/ZX gave the characters a soul that Megaman 11's characters are devoid of

Sorry, i couldn't help myself. Joking aside, the dialogue felt weird in Powered Up, Legends, Zero, and X make it work due to the more serious tones of those games, whereas mainline MM's robot masters have always been goofier and more gimmicky

By that logic then every character in the 10 games that came before it has no soul

you fat, robot-hating bigot

A pretty interesting watch, considering he only familiarized himself with this game fairly recently.

Johnny did a great job here - short, sweet, calm & collected. All in pointing out how much this game sucks. Nicely done and what I expect more out of my critical folk I pay attention to.

Megaman 11, however? I can take-or-leave it. I don't have the console or patience to play something like it anytime soon.

RISE UP MY GANGWEED NIGGA. But again, jokes aside, I'm pretty sure Jet Stingray was supposed to be a more fleshed out character than fucking Toadman

I just wish Johnny delved a bit more into just how much of a chore it can be to drag yourself through the levels in this game. People (rightfully) give Tidal Whale Duff McWhalen's and Blaze Heatnix's stages shit for being incredibly tedious and monotonous to play through, but I find the main problem with X7 to be that almost every single stage (and I say "almost" because Ride Boarski's mercifully gives you a three-minute time limit) is like those two—either bland and uninteresting (Tornado Tonion's is basically those staircase segments in the PS1 games except an entire stage), just an outright pain in the ass (Wind Crowrang's, as he mentioned, has you hopping from jet to jet with a fixed camera angle that fucks with your depth perception), or both (Snipe Anteator's has that awful, awful anti-grav section that inverts your vertical controls). Of course, having all the Maverick Hunters move even more clunkily than if you had the Gaea Armor on doesn't help matters, either.

But aside than that, it's a good review.

That should go without saying considering Stingray appeared in the X series (X4, the one where shit started going downhill for our red and blue heroes before they killed each other) where Toad Man appeared in the classic series (all of which except maybe 7 and 8 were light-hearted as fuck). Though when you play the game proper (without any extra sources in front of you) he really isn't that developed compared to someone like Magma Dragoon, being a Repliforce loyalist attacking a place to cover for them (which kind of makes him a generic goon with a cool fight).

I just used Ray because they're both water-centric. Point I was making was that he's an actual character and not the game equivalent of a random mook that Bugs Bunny would fuck up (who isn't Taz, Fudd, Sam, Witch Hazel or Daffy)
