10 episodes into SDF Macross.
This show is so good, but I'm really, really upset with how much Eureka Seven I can see in it. Like episode 2 of Macross has a scene that was completely lifted by E7 episode 26, and also a couple of Hikaru's antics are stuff I remember Renton going through in some form or another.
I wonder if there's a detailed list out there of all the stuff Eureka Seven takes from other mecha.

the kids are basically the White Base kids but a shitload more annoying

If the episode where they brought on a guest animator/where they introduce Kittan and the Black Siblings doesn't filter them first, most people tend to drop Gurren Lagann immediately when Kamina dies because they simply cannot conceive of the show being even remotely watchable with Simon as the focus.

If you watched further than that, let alone complete the TV anime, you are in a surprisingly small minority of people who have watched Gurren Lagann from my experience.

Do you remember love is even better than the show. I love OG Macross, but it's a show that makes a ton of compromises, which you will see soon. Bodozla face really bugs me to this day. It's also a show that somehow ends up counter culture in its gender norms. Men love women and women want to be feminine?! Can't make a show like this today.

If there's an anime that you can say is "carried by animation" (a moot point because animation doesn't matter), it would be DYRL. It's even more autistic and cringeworthy with the romance stuff than the show, which was unbearable. I have no idea why they forced that (and idols, for some reason) into a show about transforming plane robots on a transforming spaceship with a city inside it fighting alien giants we barely know anything about. Were they worried that would be so cool everyone's televisions would blow up and Japan would singlehandedly deplete the world's plastic supply? Minmay is such an unnecessary character. The Zentradi could have learned about human culture just by sneaking aboard the SDF to learn the combat secrets of those puny humans after experiencing several humiliating defeats, only to realize that they like how humans treat each other and that humans are so effective in war because we have a culture full of treasures that are worth defending, treasures that can't exist in a society based around war.

The Gurren Lagann fans at the time of airing and still are fucking insufferable in my experience. Coupled with the "payoff" at the ending that got spoiled everywhere online leading to many people wondering why put in the time to watch it with a very unsatisfying ending.
 
After seeing what counts as "hot blooded" in Gurren Lagann as opposed to what hot blooded is in the 70ies and 80ies mecha anime: Gurren Lagann fanboys are the soyboys.

Now that I've had a good night's sleep, I'll just say that Gundam Seed and Destiny's most important narrative character is Lacus Clyne, the pop singer. I'm sorry you can't understand how Macross influenced those shows.

A lot of Gurren Lagann fans don’t seem to realize the very thing that inspired it; Getter Robo. But also Gunbuster set the blueprints for both Kamina and Simon respectively. Without those both, Gurren Lagann probably wouldn’t exist. Its something that’s always bothered me, most casual fans of anime or normies will probably never pay attention to that which came before.
 
At least in the United States most "casual anime fans" only watch what's currently airing and/or popular at that moment. Unless it's Studio Ghibli and Cowboy Behop, they won't touch anything older than one or two years. And they been exactly that since the early 90ies albeit minus Cowboy Behop.
So of course they won't know about Getter Robo, Gunbuster and the other mecha anime and manga of those two generations.
