I've been enjoying it so far. It's a lot more involved with the Mazinger setting than OG Gren was
 
Speaking of Grendizer, has anyone played the feast of wolves game yet? It's on sale on steam, but I can't justify buying it if it sucks.
 
Okay what's the deal with the Evangelion translation controversy? I know Studio Khara and Anno himself supervised it.

What exactly is the difference between the ADV subtitles and the new ones? I love the old ADV dub but I'm willing to sacrifice Fly Me To The Moon and whatnot for the subtitled version only. (Come to think of it I never actually watched the subbed version in full)

I know you also get Death/Rebirth and EoE in the bluray too. (EoE was too sad for me. I'm sore over Misato and Ritsuko lol. Also it scared me when everyone turned into Tang. Granted I was like 14. I know Yui implies they can return and all but.......) They also have a ton of extras. I think Kotono Mitsushi did a bunch of promo voiceover from what I've been told?

I have the Platinum set without the extras. Misato and Asuka in particular are the best acted ones in ADV's dub. But as I said idgaf about the new dub. Its a hate crime they made Shinji a troon, and casting Erica Lindbeck as Ritsuko makes absolutely no fucking sense because she's too young and doesn't have the range. A bad fit. But regardless if we pretend the dubs don't exist at all...and its only subs. Looking at it from that angle, how is it?
 
At minimum Netflix should've had the ADV dub available for those who wanted it. Even with having no interest in reusing any of the ADV VAs. If taking pettiness into account Netflix most likely didn't want to see the stats of which version is watched and risking their version being the less viewed one.

I had already mentioned in the Evangelion thread there was another similar situation to this. When Pioneer done their 3 x 3 Eyes DVD set, they included the Streamline Pictures dub of the first OVA set. Even though Pioneer had redubbed those OVAs and dubbed the second OVA series.

The new translation is just a bit stiff. It has a real ESL sorta feel to it. They keep some of the more Engrishy terms like calling Shinji "The Third Children" instead of the "Third Child". The subs are still fine though. Just fine.

Not a fan of the new dub. The performances aren't as charged as the ADV dub. The sound mixing sounds kinda off too. It's not even just the matter of preferring the ADV cast to the Netflix cast, which I do. But whoever Khara keeps putting in charge of the dubs isn't doing a good job. They got all the BIG people from the ADV back for the Prime dubs of the Rebuild films and even then, the performances were noticeably stiffer.

Part of that is Anno is probably still butthurt about the dub of 3.33 getting laughed at during an anime con. The gay piano scene made people giggle and he assumed it had to have been a shitty dub making people laugh. There's no way anyone could laugh as his artistic, homoerotic scene of two anime twinks playing a piano. But, after that, Khara took a more hands-on approach with the dubs. They made Funi redub the movie with a script they oversaw and then wound up ditching Funimation entirely by the time 3.0+1.0 was out.

It's hilarious to imagine that the guy who took the piss out of Char's Counterattack two decades prior and saw with his own eyes how people latched onto Rei would be so offended by people having fun with gaybait.

My only experience with Nadesico is SRW V and it seemed hyper edgy so I kinda stayed away. Enough people seem to like it that I'm willing to give it a chance if it's not just the classic trope of "war is bad and I'm a child fighting in the war" with nothing else behind it other than good designs/fights.

Anno really does not like it when people interpret characters and scenes from his series that aren’t the ones he intended them to have.

Heck, his hatred of Rei and her fans is proof of that.

Main chick is an idiot savant sociopathic ditz stalker and it responsible for literally killing every Martian survivor, she was supposed to rescue. Which was the official reason why she and the rest of the crew were assembled abroad the Nadesico in the first place.

It's called Gattaioh. It's based on a Takara toyline where you put little guys with battery canisters into vehicles to make the vehicles move and transform, and then you put the vehicles on a set of tracks so that they can all combine into a big robot. This is the pilot episode; it's sad we didn't get a full anime for it.

Here's a pilot for another non-produced anime, Tomica Earth Commander: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0QKvZ94PX0. It's more like Thunderbirds or Mask because, though there aren't any robots, there are combining vehicles. I guess this is sort of a predecessor to the Tomica Hero toku.

Thing is Anno didn't say shit about Evangelion smut until that post, by all right Mogudan and everyone else should personally attacked by it. As that particular horse had already left the barn all the way back in 1995.

It's not like Anno hasn't drawn some smutty fanart back when he was just a fan animator. It's a case of pulling the ladder up after you've gotten to where you wanna be. Not that I think Mogudan will ever be super mainstream. But, you never know. Nagatoro was a big hit and its author made way more fucked up hentai than Mogudan.
