Is Arjuna a good mecha/sci-fi show to watch? I'm intrigued by it because the secret villain organization is called SEED.

What are Japan's thoughts on Voltes V Legacy?
I think it is funny to see that there are other countries making works based on japanese mecha properties that they feel much more love than Japan.

France did their Grendizer comic sequel.

Brazil did their Juspion (they also got the rights to do their own sequel series/film but it is still in pre production)

And will release a Jiraiya sequel comic in a few months too

Phillipines have their voltes V and iirc there was another tv series based on a mecha series on early 00s, something like galvo or golba

So i have started to watch grendizer U and i have 2 questions:
>do i need to watch anything before watching it?

>where does the serie fit within the mazinger timeline?

Daitetsujin 17 is a great toku mecha show. I usually don't like Toei toku since they're way too action-packed and violent, but this seems to be an exception. I particularly like how reminiscent of Babel II and Giant Robo it is -- even aside from the robot not being piloted, the strategizing takes the form of slow, methodical military-style campaigns, which is always entertaining. They even have lots of cool MOTWs, and they try to sympathize with and understand the MOTWs, which is very Ultraman-esque.

Grendizer was really good this week. Lots of good technobabble, a docking sequence, the best fight in the show yet (which took place in the snow) -- I can't wait to see where this goes. As it is, the previous episodes have had a good job of providing some sort of battle or action, even if it's more tempered. People complain about Koji and Maria, but I'm okay with that because it reminds me of Ginga and Eris.

If you mean Recapture(?) No, they havent.
I like the story so far and they do just skip to the interesting parts. It's like R1 but minus ashford academy and Akito's excellent knightmare fights. However some of the forerunner tier tech they introduced is just a huge can of worms.

Like the main character being able to literally change identities with a simple necklace that not only hides her geass powers, but also can be convincing enough of a disguise to trick non-geass affected people that changes her physical appearance and even makes her voice match as well. There's no way Neo Britannia or some shadow government wouldn't just assassinate and replace every key political figure with operatives using these necklaces. The writers just gloss over that advanced espionage device and skip to the well choreographed knightmare battles.

They also didn't really have any contingencies in case that gungan energy shield was taken over by hostiles? Really? After the literal revolution and WW3 during R2? This never once crossed anyone's mind during the shield towers construction that it could also be used against the defenders or have a team of commandos sabotage a tower and hold the breach long enough to evacuate some civilians? They show the black knights getting their asses kicked as usual without zero commanding them, but they definitely had the hardware to do it. You don't need to be a geassfag to pull something like that off even in anime. They treat lelouch like he's bastilla shan with their passive battle meditation more than an actual strategist.

Also where the hell is Empress Nunnally? This is confirmed to take place shortly after R3. Not 500 years in the future like a macross sequel. There's no way in hell she would just sit back and let the allied nation of Japan be taken over by an actual rogue state after lelouch gave his life for its freedom. Then again, Japanese anime has never been known for being well thought out and this series hasn't been great since 2007.
