I guess I'd listen to an anime podcast if there was a good one. It's all just retards who don't have a good grasp of anything outside of shonen shit or shitlibs. Or both. I'd rather hear the opinions of fellow retards on here or /m/ than literally any youtuber. At least when it comes to anime. There's plenty of good podcasts about film or video games. But literally no good podcasts about anime.
While I stopped paying attention to ANN around the "KickVic" shit I'm almost ashamed to admit it during my early days of weebdom I used to regularly listen to ANNCast because I didn't know any better but it did allow me to venture to shows outside my repertuar. Zac, up until he drunk himself to death, was a complete shitlib who fucked a tranny but he did brought on a lot of knowledgeable guests so I got to learn a lot about the history of the anime industry and certain shows which is more than I can say about current anime podcasts. AWO has always been shit and I'm suprised its still active same with Gundamn! but I'll give the latter credit for at least being the only podcast that exclusively discusses mecha. Anime is just one of those niches where its hard to find highminded discussion because it mostly appeals to manchildren and the industry as it is is very insular so there's not a steady stream of information every day like films and videogames.

Eva doesn't really have straight-up clones. Like, sure, there are shows that wouldn't have been greenlit before Eva. Shows like Fafner or Brain Powerd or whatever that don't have conventionally toyetic looking mecha designs. But, retards always wanna say BP is Tomino's answer to Eva or Rahxephon is an Eva clone.
On a related note I kinda wanna see more Eva parodies like what Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure did

I think EVA pioneered the art of mismanaging money so hard that you almost bankrupt your company, and using your characters for an awkward therapy at the expense of the show itself (and the viewers). Western shows sure seemed to learn this lesson as it seems to happen all the time ever since Gravity Falls.
Oh, and making terrible characters the protagonists, but Gundam beat it at that several times already.

alright Unicorn team! it's been a rough day fighting Gargoyle, let's all go to that new steakhouse, my treat!

Speaking of which: over October I watched the Giant Robo OVA from the early nineties, hoping for some classic robot fights. While it is well animated and the story execution is pretty good, the fights are entirely front loaded and the plot itself is one where things would have turned out better had the heroes done literally nothing. I get the theme is people not properly understanding each other but it really gets overshadowed as a non-robot sci-fi story regarding the Shizuma Drive.

it's no Johnny Sokko, I'll give you that for free

If there is a God(Gundam) please let them animate GaoGaiGar vs Betterman.

Gainax was something special, people think it was just an animation studio, but that was wrong. They did so much stuff that makes no sense it is unreal. They got evangelion money so they could experiment and do other stuff.

If you go to the old gainax website and just click 7 times you will get to a page that there is nothing like an animation studio. I remember reading reports about a paintball/airsoft event in their website that they participated.

Or how in the 90's/2000's they would sell digital artbooks via CD with other not anime related artists. Or how they had artists had their own blogs in their websites.

It was a chaotic mess that no one that don't know japanese and actively pursue will never fully get it.

He's a lolcow from /m/. He even has a thread on here. Infamous for his love of GaoGaiGar and his lust for Mamoru.
I did not needed to know this. GGG is like my favorite mech serie but learning of this brings disgust to me. GGG is sacred, hes not a fan and should not be associated with the real fans. Guess thats enough internet for today :story:

Clawshrimpy and his infamy for bringing up Gaogaigar every time he talks is sincerely one of the reasons I feel like I should never watch that show.

Well, that and because it's like the sixth fucking show in a franchise of mecha shows.

GGG's nice enough, the Braves basically have nothing to do with each other, it's like sentai more than gundam

Except this is a mecha show, a genre of anime that's incapable of stopping itself from cannibalism. It's entirely likely that a bunch of scenes and plot developments in that show will exist as responses to or recycles of setpieces from its previous shows.

it's more just a cavalcade of (dank) stock footage
they were abso-fucking-lutly designed to be standalone shows to sell that year's toys
you'll get the obari pose and seizure-y gattais but it's not like some grand motifs you need to keep track of
frankly watching LESS of them probably helps so you don't notice the stock ideas recycled
