Have you played AW: American Nightmare? That one was actually fun. American Nightmare is like the negative of regular Alan Wake, it's strong where AW was weak and vice versa, so it plays better and is way more fun but the story, setting and characters aren't as fleshed out.

The pessimistic and sarcastic soul of the north is a perfect fit for writing something pulpy like Max Payne.
I don't have American nightmare but I will buy it next time is on sale.

In other news I have Finished Quantum Break!! while I liked the story very much , I have to say I did not enjoy the gameplay as much , the shooting was not the best I'm a regular FPS player and the guns didn't pack as much of a punch as would've liked the time mechanics were really fun tho and by the end I was clearing rooms like a motherfucker. some good advice; as soon as you can get the heavy pistol the regular one just sucks . I really enjoyed the tv show hybrid concept it was great it was a nice " Break " in between chapters .

it was ok for me, since shooting was never really the main focus, you want to use it in conjunction with all the time power shenanigans. on it's own the shooting feels a bit clunky, sadly by the time you get the hang of it the game is almost over.

American Nightmare was originally pitched as simply Alan Wake 2, instead it wound up as DLC so it was scaled down, but still really cool.

The last post in this thread was so long ago and so much had happened since that it seems almost pettyy on cpomparision but i just knew i had to revive it, revive and show the farms a glint of hope in the impending darkness a match that could provide a bit of light as the darkness swirled in...

Happy Belated birthday max payne.

It really wasn't. There was the obligatory instagib sniper rifle that every mouthbreather would run, rendering movement and positioning pointless.
If I remember correctly, Max Payne 3's Rockstar Pass was the precursor of season passes we know today.

I had Max Payne 2 on the PS2. I never got far; I believe I was still at the warehouse. Then again, I was a kid when I played it.

Max Payne was released just a month before 9/11 it's been 20 years since both events and each scar is like a weight around your feet dragging you deeper and deeper into the icy black waters as the life ebbs from you.

Max Payne on consoles never felt right IMO, they were made for the mouse and the speed/precision that comes with it. Analog joysticks being standard wasn't even a thing on consoles when the first game started development.

Max Payne on the GBA was really cool to see.

It has a somewhat Crusader: No Remorse thing going for it. Unfortunately it's almost unplayable.

(As you may remember from the Frankie Niagra fight)

Maybe so, but that's what made it interesting. Back then, you were either a console gamer or a PC gamer. That level of detail was foreign to us console types. It's a very good port, too.

A thread disscussing an old game I played back in school. A warm, cozy feeling washed over my body. I'd forgotten what this felt like. Nostalgia.

I guess my attempt to meet up with the sandman and watch the inside of my eyelids could wait. It's true what they say. In moments like these you can only speak in metaphores and monologues.

"20 years of Remedy", this one is from 2015 and I timestampped it to the part where he shows how to do the Max Payne face.

Short video with footage from different sources, ends with the ooold trailer from 1998. It's similar but different.

edit: I suppose that in the original story the drug would start to mutate people. Thank god it didn't go down that route.

The first Max Payne is the one I remember most fondly, making the biggest splash in terms of unique look and style, gameplay innovation, etc.

It had a pretty nifty mod scene for a few years too. There were a few different Matrix-themed projects that added huge arsenals and fairly sophisticated kung fu attacks, fancy dodges and animations, even wall-running. Sadly if the game requires some workarounds/tweakery to run on modern systems, the mods might not be compatible even if they can be found somewhere.

I have to wonder if they'res ever gonna be a proper sequel/rebbot of max payne now. Either they go the REmake 2 and 3 route and have it set in 2001/2005 respectivley and have it be a throw back to that ear of gaming or if it's set now Max would be in his 50s or so depending on how old he was before (idrc them saying his exact age though its amazing sam lake hasn't aged a day since then)

and then of course there's the whole rights issue and who gets to be the developer and the fact that few people who worked on the original games are still with rockstar/3D realms.

The first two Max Payne games are amongst my favorite games. The third one is good albeit a tad bit disappointing. The film with Mark Wahlberg still made me angry to this day.

I played through the trilogy leading up to 3's release and loved it. Echoing other posts here saying I know why people would find 3 disappointing but I liked Max's arc as a character. Given time, distance, and perspective between 2 and 3 you can sort of see where they were headed. No one pops that many pain meds and doesn't end up fucked up as a result. Max Payne 3 had good gunplay, and the soundtrack by HEALTH was really solid and fit the overall mood. I still remember playing the final level in the airport and "Tears" coming on and I got goosebumps down my arms as I ran through massacring UFE as a one man killing machine doped to the gills on (what I assume was) Oxys. Rockstar used to know how to nail the music cues when they were appropriate (thinking also of the Jose Gonzalez song that plays in the first Red Dead Redemption when you cross the border into Mexico)

I replayed Max Payne 3 recently and I fucking loved it. I'd kill for another game but not if Rockstar are making it.

Max Payne 1 and 2 are my examples of a good new game to start back to back. I don't believe film noir was ever used properly in video games but I'm saluting Max Payne for being the first one to make it be taken seriously without having to go through those stupid tropes that make it a joke. Can't say much on the third since I never played it.
