Disaster Matt Taibbi: Sexual Predator

So it turns out that Rolling Stone's star reporter Matt Taibbi had a history of sexually harassing employees while he ran an English-language alt-weekly in Moscow during the 90s. This video is a pretty good summary (the relevant part starts at 1:55:00 and goes on for about 13 minutes)

It's insane that this book has been around for so long and this is the first time that this has hurt the mainstream. For what it's worth, Ames was far worse, admitting to stuff like fucking a drunk 15 year old and forcing his girlfriend to get an abortion under pain of death. Both Taibbi and Ames are claiming that the Exile was satire and that the sexual harassment didn't really happen.

NOTE: Taibbi had absolutely nothing to do with that campus rape report with Jackie's debunked story, but Rolling Stone did rehire him around the time it ran.

Yeah, this has been known for years. I remember reading about this ages ago. I never thought anything would come of it because it has been known for so long and nothing ever came of it. Not to mention the left basically worshiping Taibbi, shielding him from anything.

The thing is...if this is what they will willing write about, what were the things that they didn't? That's a scary thought.

They're relevant when they publish "groundbreaking" clickbait trash supporting whatever lefty cause is currently in and needs to be furthered. It's pretty pathetic that even their history of pop news street cred doesn't warrant them a second glance from normalfags unless it's hyped up by other outlets.
 
Dating myself a bit, I remember the last time I actually attempted to read Rolling Stone was back when I was in college when Dubya was in office and I was listening to System of a Down habitually. Even then, their content was borderline intolerable, so I can only imagine how shit tier RS has become since then.

As for another Male feminist being nailed up on their own cross, 1) Not big surprise; and 2) This is only going to get worse for them from here on out. They helped perpetuate this hate machine where everything has to be offensive and sexist and discriminatory, and just pushed this along with such ego that they never bothered to think that this cultural disaster could engulf them as well. As now that pop culture has had its fill of vilifying the usual suspects, the hate machine is looking for something else to keep it going... well why not these smug white guys over here? In time, this movement will devour itself, but not before taking outs its creators.

I guess I'm dating myself too, The exile was pretty good as a look into the surreal state Russia was in back then, but it tried way too hard. I always thought it was just Ames who did the fucked up shit though, although I don't think I have the capacity to be surprised by leftists being outed as predators anymore.

Jim Goad did way worse than any of those guys and did time for it too. Although some of it was somewhat bullshit. Seriously fuck this bullshit where the moment someone is accused of shit, suddenly their writing sucks, too. Lots of writers are seriously shit people. Get over it. Read it or don't. But I've about fucking had it with this crybaby pearl-clutching where everyone who says shit for a living has to be a goddamn saint too.

Do you give a fuck if your roofer is a murderer so long as he gets the job done? Suppose your plumber groped someone. Who gives a fuck? Who cares? Is the water running? Great! SHUT UP!

I agree wholeheartedly, but I don't think @RichardMongler deserves to bear the brunt of your ire - I can't imagine anyone who likes Jim Goad (who is a good writer, even though I agree with him about barely anything - but that pretty much goes for anyone who has written for taki) would ever be a fan of Ames.

And while I can't say the same for Taibbi - the piece he kicked off his rolling stones stint with absolutely bowled me over - I haven't read anything of Ames' that was particularly good since the exile.

How do you mean? If you're talking about his marriage to Debbie, then yeah, he wasn't at his best. Then again, it takes two to tango. If you're talking about his relationship with Anne, c'mon! Her own mother testified against her. Jim's transgressions aren't half of Marky Mark's. One of his ex-associates even accused him not having the guts to own up to rape.

But excusing all that, my biggest bone to pick with Marky Mark is his patent insincerity. Considering he came from a very well-to-do background, his entire persona reeks of rich boy pretending to be the champion of the downtrodden.
