All discussion of the candidates, updates and results should go here

For example- here's a video of Ted Cruz vying for world domination.

Also Hilary Clinton is a crook and nobody should have sex with her.

Discuss

(Note- The title will change as we get nearer the election, previous titles will be archived in the OP)

Fuck it, this election is over. Maybe that's jumping the gun a bit, maybe he was joking in that video (which it seemed like he was), but you can be damn sure most Americans don't share his sense of humor in regards to checking out 10 year olds.

His increasingly erratic behavior isn't exactly making much of a case for him either. From an outsiders perspective it almost looks like he's having some sort of mental breakdown. Like he's psychologically incapable of dealing with the amount of criticism he's getting.

If Trump wins this I will castrate myself with a pair of nail clippers.

I'd be kind of leery about predictions like that. Not saying it's not going to happen, but Reagan was down by ten points with mere weeks to go before he won the election, and Bush junior won despite being well behind in most polls as well. We also saw similar BREXIT IS GONNA LOSE polls everywhere during the lead-up to the referendum, and look how that shit turned out.

I can't say I know of anyone I've encountered, online or off, who's legitimately changed their mind on who they were going to vote for this election season based on what came out of the news cycle or whatever nonsense is currently being talked about. There's probably a few that have but by and large the battle lines were drawn some time ago and all that's left is to wait and see where things are when the dust settles.

I would illustrate the current situation as this:

Hillary on her way up the steps to White House's front door, walking across an angry Donald the doormat in stilettos and gouging the poor fellow in the eye as she does so.

I would try to draw this but, alas, I can only draw marginally better than Chris. :(

Brexit was seen as a toss up before the referendum. I don't think anybody who was paying attention thought that remain was guaranteed victory. All the polls (off the top of my head anyway) showed an even split, or at the very least within the margin of error.

I've been wrong before. I thought he wasn't going to get the nomination. But looking at the past few weeks I sincerely doubt he'll be able to turn this around. And the shit just keeps piling up on him. There's a reason "october surprises" are a thing we actually have a name for. Because once it gets to this point if you put your opponent on the defensive and make them play damage control, that's what is going to be on voters minds come election day. Most people probably have made up their minds (which also doesn't bode well for trump, statistically), but the people who haven't are the target here. And Trump is being actively prevented from hitting that target by a combination of media exposure, Clinton's PR team, and his own actions. I really can't imagine any scenario that would lift up Trump at this point.

Reagan's not a good example because the polls people point to that showed him behind were taken before the first debate, where he destroyed Carter. He was leading continuously after that. Brexit polling was within MOE, too.

The problem nobody's talking about is Trump's lack of ground game. The Dems registered nearly 7k voters in Florida last month. The Republicans registered less than 120.

I'm not surprised to see this flood of stories. I'm sure these women came forward to the Clinton campaign a year ago or more and were told to wait for the signal. Politics ain't beanbag, and you don't get points for giving your opponent a fair chance. You hold onto oppo until it'll do the most damage and then you unload. Clinton's team has been doing oppo on Trump for 16+ months now. I guarantee you there's more coming and it's probably worse.

“If a woman has (the right to an abortion), why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman? At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t (in most cases) result in anyone’s death.” - Rep. Lawrence Lockman (R)

That's like some loveshy Elliot Rodgers bullshit, Trump's comments while really bad are pigheaded at worst.
That's so love shy-tier stupid. Whoever said politicians can't be lolcows was full of shit.

If you revise it to
I am not nitpicking. @Pikimon didn't list a bunch of policy proposals made that demonstrate opposition to women. There was no mention of domestic abuse, maternity leave, or any other topics of importance to women. They listed a bunch of quotes from republicans talking about abortion, and called it 'about women'.
Because of that, I don't think it's unreasonably partisan for women to be against the Republican party. I think that's just an honest evaluation of the choi
I didn't say otherwise. In fact I thought I went to lengths to make it clear that I thought those quotes were stupid and that I believe those quoted should not be in office.

Personally I'd much rather hear "grab her in the pussy" than any of those disgusting quotes diminishing rape or at best demonstrating a gross misunderstanding towards its effects.
Like I said, I am opposed to what they said too.

Let's do a hypothetical. You wake up from cryogenic sleep to find yourself 100 years in the future. America is very different, people are happy, there are good movies on in the summer, and nobody is religious anymore. And best of all, everyone gets $40,000 a year, and it somehow doesn't affect the economy negatively. And the only caveat is that every 5th newborn baby must be gutted. Would you be willing to participate in such a system?

It doesn't really matter whether you answer yes or no, presumably you can imagine someone opposing it. But how can they, they are putting millions through unimaginable pain and suffering? Because the alternative is literal baby murder. And that is how the Christian right feels about abortion. That is how someone can say something as reprehensible as
“If a woman has (the right to an abortion), why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman? At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t (in most cases) result in anyone’s death.” - Rep. Lawrence Lockman (R)
In all seriousness, because rape doesn't kill anybody while actually murdering a baby does just that.

The point is, if you can't empathise with your ideological opponents then you will never understand them, and you will never be able to convince them to consider an alternative point of view. Which is how we end up with an ideological divide like the one we see in America today.

Seriously guys... November 1st, 1980.

REAGAN WAS NOT HAPPENING.

In 1980, Ronald Reagan had a small lead over Jimmy Carter at this point in the campaign but ended up crushing Carter by nearly 10 percentage points. So that’s a decent precedent for Trump, right? Not really. The 1980 race shifted a great deal in the final weeks of the campaign, but even if 2016 underwent a similarly sized lurch towards Trump, he’d still lose. Not only that, but Reagan still had a major card to play in that election: the only debate between him and Carter. Reagan’s calm, collected performance there gave him a significant boost in the polls. This year, of course, two debates are already in the books, and Trump has lost both. Trump could obviously do better in the third debate, but it would likely have far less of an impact than the lone Carter-Reagan debate in 1980 did.

and Trump has lost both.

latest

Nate Silver says so. I only trust him because he clearly wants Trump to lose!

Anyway, the newest episode of "You Can't Stump the Trump" got released yesterday. Thank goodness he didn't stop. Presumably the final episode will be episode 30, where Trump performs the final stumping.

I think he meant the debates; aren't all those polls in the picture for the election itself?

Election polls are affected quite a bit by a candidate's performance in the debates. Trump...didn't do very well in either one.

The polls are just barely catching up to the Pussygate scandal, and have not reached the results of the debate just yet.

Fuck politics, I just want to see someone make a regrettable decision.

This probably qualifies:

I don't even like Hillary and I feel sorry for her over this.

This is what they're going to do to prisoners at Guantanamo when they want to up the ante.
