I am not nitpicking.
@Pikimon didn't list a bunch of policy proposals made that demonstrate opposition to women. There was no mention of domestic abuse, maternity leave, or any other topics of importance to women. They listed a bunch of quotes from republicans talking about abortion, and called it 'about women'.
Because of that, I don't think it's unreasonably partisan for women to be against the Republican party. I think that's just an honest evaluation of the choi
I didn't say otherwise. In fact I thought I went to lengths to make it clear that I thought those quotes were stupid and that I believe those quoted should not be in office.
Personally I'd much rather hear "grab her in the pussy" than any of those disgusting quotes diminishing rape or at best demonstrating a gross misunderstanding towards its effects.
Like I said, I am opposed to what they said too.
Let's do a hypothetical. You wake up from cryogenic sleep to find yourself 100 years in the future. America is very different, people are happy, there are good movies on in the summer, and nobody is religious anymore. And best of all, everyone gets $40,000 a year, and it somehow doesn't affect the economy negatively. And the only caveat is that every 5th newborn baby must be gutted. Would you be willing to participate in such a system?
It doesn't really matter whether you answer yes or no, presumably you can imagine someone opposing it. But how can they, they are putting millions through unimaginable pain and suffering? Because the alternative is literal baby murder. And that is how the Christian right feels about abortion. That is how someone can say something as reprehensible as
“If a woman has (the right to an abortion), why shouldn’t a man be free to use his superior strength to force himself on a woman? At least the rapist’s pursuit of sexual freedom doesn’t (in most cases) result in anyone’s death.” - Rep. Lawrence Lockman (R)
In all seriousness, because rape doesn't kill anybody while actually murdering a baby does just that.
The point is, if you can't empathise with your ideological opponents then you will never understand them, and you will never be able to convince them to consider an alternative point of view. Which is how we end up with an ideological divide like the one we see in America today.
