Somebody has and will always want us dead. The odds of you or me dying in a terror attack hasn't gotten better or worse despite the mountain of money burnt, and civil liberties srtipped away.
More people die in wreeks than in a terror attack.
I'm not saying this to dismiss your concerns or talk down to you, trust me. But we can't live in constant fear and think people like Trump are our salvation from Salafist domination.
Muslim Americans have been the eyes and ears for potential threats in their community.
Simply freezing immigration is not viable in the long term, and sure as hell would cripple commerce on an international level. And even if Trump gets in and puts that stupid fucking wall up, we still have one of the longest unsecured borders in the world, neighboring a country set to resettle 25,000 Syrians, but no talk about fully securing the northern border, but plenty of talk about sending the less than 10,000 people back. The US anti-terror machine isn't some joke of handholding and warm milk. Vetting isn't some Micky Mouse operation, we drag every possible fucker in for a Syrian. The State Department works with the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center, the Department of Defense and Homeland Security. A DHS officer conducts in-person interviews with every applicant. Info such as fingerprints are collected and matched against criminal databases. Biographical information such as past visa applications are also examined.
We should be cautious, of course. We cannot reasonabily expect to let every single refugee from Syria (5 million, I think), and we cannot pretend they could not possibly be freeloaders, rapists or thugs but that is the caveat of free will.
Even the Jerrys
have been barring undocumented refugees from entering at their own borders and
hell, they seem to be learning patterns, because they just stopped a terror attack.
And even if we stopped them all from entering, and essentially turned ourselves into an island, the specter of terrorism would still sneak in through the internet and telecommunications. Where else did the Tsarnaev brothers or McViegh learned how to make their tools of terror? I know we can protect our people and our way of life from Salafists and jihadists without dismantling our humanity and the foundations of our Republic.
